Music Man StingRay Special 4 Charcoal Sparkle £1800 Serial number F81378 Up for sale is this 2018 Music Man Stingray Special in the stunning and now discontinued Charcoal Sparkle finish. This was made in 2018, the first year of the newly redesigned lightweight, StingRay Special basses with an 18 volt preamp. The body is made from lightweight swamp ash (not the ‘selected hardwoods’ of the later versions) and the fretboard is ebony on a smooth, fast, roasted maple neck. The bass also comes with an excellent Zero Mod thumb-rest. This StingRay is in very good condition with just some minor plectrum wear to the pickguard and some very superficial finish wear to the brushed metal plate the tone knobs are mounted on which is hard to capture on the photographs. The hard shell case is also in very good condition. A great looking, great sounding bass. It’s a sleek and contoured delight to play, and sounds fantastic in a live setting. Cash on collection only please as I don’t want to courier this, especially since reading all the horror stories on this forum about sending basses. A half way meet up is a possibility if you’re in the South East. I’m not interested in trades. Any questions, please let me know. Here's a link to my previous feedback as a Basschat seller for assurance of a clean and honest transaction: Feedback for EdLib-3 - Feedback - Basschat4 points

For sale is one G&L Tribute LB-100. Owned from new by me it is in excellent condition, no dings or rash. You know the scoop on these - a P bass, but just a little better, with 21 frets instead of the usual 20, the G&L Saddle Lock bridge, a nice sounding Alnico pickup and block inlays. Has been fitted with a white pearl pickguard made by Brian Pillans but will come with the stock tort one supplied. Also has nice flat top knobs fitted, but will include the standard dome tops so you can choose. I'm probably going to list this in general places like ebay/FB for £400 but because it's BC, let's say £350 posted. Will lop off £25 if you can collect in Aberdeen or nearby.4 points

Hi Guys Here’s my used FMERON FM synthesizer pedal from Iron Either. I’m using a Stereo set up now and have swapped to a more digital effects setup with my HX Stomp & HX One. FMeron is a frequency modulation (FM) synthesizer, controlled by the pitch and dynamics of your bass or guitar. It starts with two pure sine wave oscillators which both track the frequency of the notes you play into it. One oscillator, called the Modulator, is not heard directly – instead it's used to modulate the frequency of the main oscillator, called the Carrier. This modulation transforms the pure sine tones into all kinds of clangs, bells, and intense electronic timbres. The octave switch allows FMeron's synthesized tones to track one octave below, one octave above, or at the same pitch as your playing. FMeron also includes an envelope generator, triggered by plucking the strings of your instrument. This envelope can be set to ramp up (Attack) or down (Decay) when triggered, and can either control the amount of FM (thus the intensity of the added harmonics over time) or the volume of the synthesizer voice, for slow-attack or percussive, plucky sounds. FMeron is designed in collaboration with engineer Don Stavely. I don’t have the original box or manual but you can download it from Iron Either’s website. I take PayPal and will ship at the buyers expense.4 points

Reduced asking price for BC, SOLD for £330 delivered 🙃 I am not gigging so no longer need a powerful, versatile, compact, and what I would describe as transparent, amplifier. I have been using an Ampeg SGT-DI with it for a very convincing (to my ears) B-15 sound through a BC MkIII Cab. Amplifier is in very good condition, not many hours use, and is complete with original box, packaging, mains lead with UK 3 pin plug and manual. There's a very slight scratch on the top, looks like maybe the plug marked it when picked up with the lead to move it but it's not dented. The black brushed aluminium case shows every fingerprint and the very slightest mark. It has lived in a padded RokSak when not being used with foam protecting every edge and cables in separate pockets. This is lifted direct from the PJB website (with added i in the metal 😉) Small and lightweight just got more powerful with the introduction of Phil Jones Bass’ BP-800 bass amplifier. The BP-800 is a high power, high performance no compromise compact amplifier that delivers more bass for the buck. The BP800 features a Class A pre-amp with the popular PJB 5-Band EQ. Although it weighs only 5.7 lbs and is 7.5” wide the BP-800 is built with the ruggedness and precision needed to withstand all the rigors of live performance and the road. The appealing blue front panel is a quarter inch thick and CNC machined while the chassis is built from thick aluminium extrusion making it incredibly strong. All control knobs are PJB design solid aluminium billet for a high end look and feel. The BP-800 will work on any AC voltage from 100- 240 volts AC enabling it to conveniently travel worldwide without having to switch to local AC supply voltages. The Power Output is 400 watts into 8 Ohms, and 800 watts into 4 ohms (maximum load). The dimensions are 7.5” wide x 2.5” high x 12.5 “deep. Other features include Mute /Passive/Active Switch, Headphone out and auxiliary input jacks, Balanced line out with pre/post EQ and ground lift switches, FX send/return Jacks, Pre Amp out and Power amp input jacks and a High-Current Speakon Out. Price is with shipping with either Parcelforce or UPS to mainland UK other than premium price far flung areas. Tradewise, I am in the market for a tidy Macbook Pro 16 2019-on with a bit more than base RAM installed that can run current iOS and last a few more years as I want to leave Microsoft for good. Not listed elsewhere, I don't do FB or W'App, so next move would be Ebay and or Reverb. Thank you for looking.4 points

Found a low cost bridge for a project on a UK retailer/shop I'd not used before. So, I tried to buy it, but apparently had to register with the shop in question first. I was walking the dog at the time and doing it on my mobile phone. Long story short, after about 10 minutes of "Sorry, your password is insufficient, it needs to be at least 12 characters long with at least two non-consecutive capitals, one numerical symbol, one non-numerical symbol, and no dates or similar references....' I just gave up and bought the same bridge cheaper on Amazon. FFS UK music retailers, why put people off buying from you 😡3 points

Reluctant sale owing to post Christmas finances and change in family circumstances is this incredible fretless Precision. Calling it a bitsa does it a massive disservice given quality of components. Consists of a 1978 ash Fender Precision body, beautifully aged/mojoed with almost satin patina with only a small amount of tiny surface marks just above the P pickup (pictured). Tony Franklin fretless P neck with ultra comfy B neck nut width, undoubtedly the finest fretless neck I’ve played, fitted with a Hipshot detuner. Finished off with an EMG passive Geezer PJ set with VVT control configuration so you can fine tune the blend to a much greater extent than a standard Tony Franklin. Comes with a serviceable, non-branded hard case. £925 shipped in UK, which is way less than the sum of its parts. I don’t want to part out. Bass is south of Glasgow in Central Scotland, handy for all major motorway networks. Please feel free to check my feedback from my 17 years on here. Cheers.3 points

I’m absolutely finding that bookings for the duo are a lot easier than for the band at the moment. We’ve turned the set around but I’m sure price is just as important. As you know a lot of pubs in the SW are pretty small and I’ve often wondered whether a band ever made financial or practical sense for the smaller venues. I think the combination of Covid and austerity has made a lot of places re-evaluate their entertainment budgets also. I feel bad about it but we’ve looked hard at what we offer as a duo and upped our game. We’ve programmed drum tracks and added a few rhythm guitar backings which has opened up a lot of the cover band repertoire to the duo so we are effectively undercutting the market for the full band. Everything is easier with a smaller outfit; fewer egos, easier to get together for rehearsals, quicker set ups, everyone pulling their weight and of course more money with fewer mouths to feed. Fortunately money is not that important for me. The band is more fun and more challenging so despite the lower pay and extra stress it’s where I want to be. When the band really gels and the room is responding there’s no experience quite like it.3 points

Due to some recent changes at casa Syncro, I'm going to be selling a few basses as the proceeds are required elsewhere. First up is this stunning USA Lakland Joe Osborne bass from 2002. These are legendary for nailing the early 60's Fender feel, and this one is no exception. The necks are sublime. The bass has been extensively gigged in its time and has picked up some bumps and scrapes along the way. This only adds to the appeal of the instrument IMO, and it really feels like a vintage bass. The Candy Apple red paint is really deep and rich in the flesh, and it looks very striking on stage. Needless to say it sounds incredible. Why spend double on a Fender Custom Shop Jazz? Collection from Margate or I may be able to meet somewhere mutually convenient. I can package the bass up safely if you'd like to arrange a courier.3 points

My old Ibanez SRMS805. Partly due to it being awesome to play, partly due to it sounding great, partly due to using it in a great band. It was a proper metal machine. It worked so well with heavy distortion and the clarity on the B string was spot on.3 points

I just had an email from GAK that they've brought it back. Must have sorted out the missing component or maybe a redesign? Might need to get one. https://www.gak.co.uk/en/boss-katana-go2-guitar-and-bass-headphone-amplifier/9725582 points

Hey guys, I'm selling my Fender Jazz Elite which i purchased from here a few months back from another Bass chatter. Fantastic Bass, but I'm after a 5 String Stingray/Sterling and need to raise funds. This is in fantastic condition, all except for 2 small screw holes which were inserted by the original owner as he fitted a bridge cover. I have filled these with some natural wood filler so these are hardly noticeable. Comes with the original Fender hardcase. Pics attached are what the previous owner took (hope he doesn't mind!). Prefer a straight sale but would be interested in a trade or part ex for a sterling or stingray 5. Based in Swindon but willing to meet somewhere within reason. Thanks Freddie2 points

Excellent condition japanese Fender Jazz bass. I think the 90’s japanese reissues are as close as you get to the vintage instruments but without the price tag. This one has had new pickups (originals will come with the bass also) which are the superb Tonerider pickups. Electrics were upgraded at the time too as the cheap japanese pots were noisy and the tone pot didnt seem to do much at all. It had a full setup 2 weeks ago at PSG Guitars in Bury where the current elites Groundwound strings were installed. The is one finish scratch to the back as photo’d and a few playing swirls here and there. I dont believe the pickguard is original to the bass as its needs a tiny bit if fettling round the bell plate to sit fully flush. Finally that is a real genuine 70’s bridge cover. Only reason for selling is my p basses are getting more action and i have a rickenbacker itch i want to scratch. Can be seen, tested and played here in Bolton. **Postage is possible within UK as i do have a packing box but no case. Would be well packed though** Would consider a part ex with cash my way for a black Dirnt sig bass (ideally fender but would consider the Squier)2 points

Xotic Bass BB Preamp v1.5 for sale. I did list this a while ago, but wasn't sure if it was possible to unlock an old post... Either way, here it is again with new photos. Slightly updated version of the classic Bass BB preamp - works brilliantly as an overdrive, as a clean boost or just as a simple preamp. In mint condition with original box. Has supplied rubber feet fitted and has never been mounted to a board. Looking for £100 and can ship in the UK for £5. Cheers!2 points

Decided to upgrade the bridge and tuners on my Gretsch, to Gotoh to add a some tuning stability and, well I wanted black hardware. Absolutely fallen for this bass, it sounds and feels awesome for what I need. And, considering with the new bits it’s still only cost me around £350, it absolutely rips! I’m thinking I’d like to put some black Gretsch knobs on it now though… Does anyone have any kicking around they’d like to sell before I go to a certain Chinese distributor? This was my first time changing anything myself on a bass too, other than strings, strap locks and a basic setup and it went well with no swears. Only very slight annoyance is that the D string screw is fully extended and the intonation is very fractionally flat but there’s no more left on the screw. But, it’s fractions and un-noticeable to the average ear. Anyway, here it is with its new bits. Really pleased, quite like it without the pickguard too, but I like to stick my pick under it…. Maybe a RightOn strap with pick holders instead, and some new black pickup covers… Ah, it never ends 🥲🙏2 points

…just remembered, they finished one song, something from Abacab I think, and Phil pointed over to the other side of the stage and said something like “Oh look, Tony’s pulled out a 12 string acoustic… well that can only mean one thing…” The whole crowd were already going ape-poo (saving the filter some work there) before he got the words “Supper’s Ready” out!2 points

Cornered (this was more effort than expected, and the electric driver threatened to mash the little screw heads although I'm sure I was using the right size bit, so it was a manual job): Speaker mounted: I was not correct that self-tapping screws into the baffle alone would be fine; at least one of them has pulled its thread out of the wood. I'll have to live with it today but will come back to fix this, probably with T-nuts seeing as I have them. Grille attached, using a nylon washer under each screw to protect the grille from scratches. A couple of the blocks started to split, probably from the combo of not doing a proper pilot hole (I did after that one), tightening too quickly in one go, and trying to put the screw too close to the end of the block, but I reckon I can fix this by forcing a little wood glue into the split while the screw is in then removing the screw and letting the glue set. And subject to those snags, it's done. Obligatory pose with the Eden and the bass: How does it sound? Well, I could tell you more based on noodling about on the landing but since I'm taking it out to a jam tonight, why don't I report back after I've tested it in the field? However I do believe I'm getting ready take back what I said about refinement…2 points

Well of course you may as you’ve asked so nicely. Invited by a chap from my work as I hit the brief…ie 4 string in the arsenal. And a few people in the hot sauce thread were apparently interested in chatting as well so multiple birds with one stone. Also thought it might be a good avenue to explore looking for stand-ins if we ever need them for the covers band I play in. Below is my Sterling alongside my LP. Rig-wise, fairly non existent at the moment. I’m very much a home jammer when it comes to bass these days so it’s either my Spark amp or if I’m messing around on a laptop I use the trusty Cory Wong Neural DSP plugin.2 points

Amazon currently have sets of D’Addario EXL170S strings on offer for £12.95. These are short scale, gauges 45/65/80/100. I bought some on a similar deal last year and they are fine. 😊2 points

I am enjoying it, Dave. Easy wins and I doubt anyone else is doing them so it all helps with the 'footfall' on the website. I always wanted to do 'Soldier Of The Line'!2 points

To be fair, they've been offering the Czech-made Bantam model for several years now as a shortscale 4-string and mediumscale 5-string. It's a simpler bolt-on design and by no means a cheap instrument at about €2000-2500, but not nearly US custom shop territory.2 points

With that budget you are firmly in second-hand Overwater territory. For a workhorse, a 35” scale J series should tick all of your boxes, but if you want something more modern sounding, keep a look out for a Progress series, beloved by pro studio and pit musicians. Good thing about going down this route is you are getting a premium quality hand made UK bass where someone else has already borne the painful cost of depreciation. Buy well and you might even make money should you choose to sell in future. Add to that a business that’s still run by the original owner and who is always just a phone call away for support if needed, what’s not to like? As you might have guessed, I’m an Overwater fanboi who currently owns three of these beautiful instruments, one of which (my J series) has literally done hundreds of gigs as my workhorse go-to bass.2 points

It also coincided with Tool’s Aenima coming out, and everyone wanting Justin Chancellor’s bass tone. All of a sudden, the nerdy British studio musicians’ tool of choice became the coolest bass with the most coveted tone in the world. With only Pete involved in building Wals at the time, it was impossible for him to keep up with demand for new basses, and so the prices of used models went stratospheric. Then he retired, and sadly passed away. Before Paul Herman picked up the reins a couple of years later, there were no new Wals to be had at all, which added to their scarcity value.2 points

Yeah, they were my two main basses that have come to a bazillion gigs with me. Some folks have said to me “…but how can you bear to take a couple of 5 grand basss to clubs and pubs?” Thing is I wasn’t taking 5 grand basses out for most of the time I’ve owned them… they’ve just been my basses… the ones I love playing. Back then they were pretty unfashionable basses and that was a decent, reasonable second hand market price at the time. It was only when Pete started getting ill in the early 2000s and then stopped building a few years later that the prices started to skyrocket.2 points

I'd definitely be checking out the lakland 5502. Can be had for less than £1k, sounds great, plays great and very flexible due to the pickup layout2 points

If I wanted a workhorse 5 string active bass, I wouldn’t be looking much further than a sadowsky metro line - the Japanese ones. They’re light, well balanced and sit in the mix perfectly. For noodling at home I’d probably wait for an Overwater in budget.2 points

After 90 minutes in the O2 presale today, all that was left were two "ultimate side of stage experience" tickets. A mere £2932.50 each. Sadly I'd already decided to set my spending limit at £2930. Yeah, I know... tightarse.2 points

Having had my £350 Wal in the 80s, I knew I was never getting one of those again, since prices went into the stratosphere. That's why I had this homage built, which bears a vague resemblance to a Wal, late last year. With the multi coil pickups and LPF based preamp, it nails that sound.2 points

Not a van moment, but years ago played a largish venue in Huddersfield. We were in the dressing room, which was directly behind the stage, waiting for our time to go on, when the DJ came running in. He said something like "Alright Lads", pi$$ed in the sink and ran back to the stage again.2 points

I know mate, it drives me crazy, all I wanted to do was spend £5 more than I needed to on a bridge because it was going to a music shop rather than Amazon! I don't understand why when so many retail sectors are pretty much click to buy without any need to register, I come across this so often with music stores. It's like they want to go out of business 😡 Bridge, a simple BBOT, nothing more 👍1 point
