Much like @EssexBuccaneer last week, I had some good Southend based gig news last night. Last week, the Cow & Telescope, one of the best cover band venues in the area, who we played for the first time last month, asked if we were available on 23 December **EDIT: due to another band having to cancel**. Unfortunately, we were already booked at a sports bar elsewhere so did the right thing and turned them down to honour our commitment. Yesterday, apparently some "top card" boxing matches were announced for 23 December. Being a sports bar, they realise their usual punters would be mightily upset if they didn't show the boxing and had a band playing instead. So they have postponed our booking until next year. We enquired whether the other option was still available, and it's now ours What a stroke of luck. It's all fallen into place in our favour without upsetting anyone. A coveted spot at one of the best music pubs in Southend on a Saturday evening, two days before Christmas. It's going to be a belter!15 points

A very reluctant sale as my roof is leaking and it's not going to be cheap. I'll be buying another ACG when money permits and would probably offer to buy this back at a later date if possible. This is my ACG Über Recurve in excellent, near new condition. I look after my equipment very well. For those that don't know, this is the top of the line model with the duel filter preamp and proprietary multicoil pickups. I also had the low battery indicator installed which is an absolute lifesaver. The top is buckeye burl with blue resin. The fretboard is acrylic impregnated maple. Here is the link to the bass on the ACG website for all the info you might want: https://acguitars.co.uk/project/0443uuberrecurve6-33/ It has the absolute best low B string I've ever seen on a 34" scale. Annoyingly, better than my Fodera elite. Weight is approx 4.6kg. Fretboard radius is either 16 or 18, I forget which, its near flat basically but not quite. Fret dots and side markers are luminlay - comes with the torch to charge them if required. 18mm string spacing. Nut is 52mm. Asking £2000 or nearest offer. It cost me £4000 so I think half the price for a basically new top end bass is sensible. Will include hiscox case and, if you're nice, ACG's Black Leather bass strap which is about £80 to buy. LOCATION: I live in sheffield but work in Oxford. I'll be in sheffield until sunday and then in Oxford until next wednesday, rinse and repeat. So I would prefer to deliver if possible but can ship if necessary. Any questions please ask!12 points

Hi all! For sale is this lovely Squier Classic Vibe P Bass in Fiesta Red. A real Pino-alike! This is the much lauded Made in China version from the Classic Vibe series, released around 2012. I have changed the neck to a matching Squier Classic Vibe J Bass neck from the same period. I prefer the slimmer nut width and it makes playing a breeze. The perfect halfway house for those who want the feel of a J but the tone of a P. The fit and finish is absolutely seamless, lovely dark rosewood board. I do not have the original neck. The pickguard has been replaced with a genuine Fender tort plate which does not have the thumbrest, but visually looks a lot nicer with a deep tort swirl. She is the veteran of many gigs and currently strung with La Bella 760FS Deep Talkin Flats which I feel are the perfect tension for a P Bass. Condition wise I would rate it at 8.5+/10. There are a few small dings which I have attempted to photograph on the underside of the bass. Aside from these the bass is in excellent condition and has been looked after impeccably. For this bass I am asking £350 plus £15 UK postage. No trades thanks. The bass will be very well packaged in a proper bass guitar shipping box. Any enquiries feel free to DM Thanks Danny9 points

Maybe because the current Gibson versions are massively over-priced and the more affordable Epiphone version is better looking and closer in spec to the original 1960s Thunderbird?9 points

Up is a cracking example of a 75 RI Jazz. I bought this at a Japenese non export specialist in Barcelona. I tried 6 75RI's and this was easily the one, and clearly player owned, I took it straight on stage that night and the whole band + FOH preferred it to the rental MIM deluxe jazz we had (artist even gave me a solo 🤣) It's a great and fast playing example with all the mojo you'd expect. It came fitted with Atelier pickups (which are fantastic) and a proper Badass 2, and I fitted a hipshot D Tuner which I'm happy to leave on (original is obviously included with the sale). It has a few wears here and there as it has been toured but looked after (Mica Millar, B*Witched, Elio Pace). Not really looking to trade as this is going towards a big boy custom Jazz. But please message me if you're thinking about a cash my way deal. Open to all sorts. Based in Liverpool but travel all the time so happy to do meet ups.5 points

Maple Road is confirmed for Early NYE gig @ The Precinct in Germantown, 4-7pm, right across the street from BarleyPop. I've played the place across the street " Barley Pop. And I've played an acoustic gig at The Precinct. But a NYE Maple Road show will be a first. Nice hours and a 25 minute commute. I'm hoping for a respectable turn out. Daryl4 points

The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne with a function band. We play there every year in the ballroom for a ticketed guests only NYE event. 90 min drive. Arrive around 5pm, set up my mini-rig with a couple of basses on a double stand. Eat the same posh dinner as the guests, fresh coffee and a glass of something. Put on my dinner jacket and play a 2hr set from 10.30pm - 12.30am then pack down and drive home. Good pay, nice place and better than being at home watching Jools Holland. Only downside is the 'jazz quartet' who play easy listening standards while the guests are having dinner. The stage is tiny and they insist on moving all our stuff around and just generally being a pain in the a**e to all concerned....3 points

I’m in the market for a new amp. Eight days ago, after exchanging a couple of messages, I said I would like to buy an amp and to please send payment details so I could pay. No argument over price, full asking. After that, nothing. Two days ago, I messaged another seller here, also saying that I would like to buy their amp, no offers, just send me detail of how to pay. Nothing. I’ve messaged twice about it, and updated the thread to say I’ve PM’d. Basschat tells me they have visited here in the interim. Is there a possibility that they are not receiving my messages? Is there something I’m not doing that I should be doing? Is there a secret blacklist of people that I’ve been added to? Is Suella Braverman an admin here? Rob3 points

Indeed. It was in the back of my mind that several months ago another band on the "Essex Cover Bands Community" Facebook group didn't do the right thing, and cancelled one venue (albeit at the last minute) in favour of a "better" venue. Let's just say the internet did not approve!3 points

Mine is a late 70s Primary Bass. Friday night Gumtree purchase. It's a thing of beauty. (It needed a ton of work to get it up to speed...it was effectively a body/neck and Schaller tuners. Everything else needed changing as it was either non-functioning or missing bits. Aria Pro II produced Precision/Jazz Primary/Precise bass models. The Precision I have does have a Jazz brother...I check eBay periodically, but they're all £££.3 points

Popped a quick video showing how I’m using the EAE Halberd, Dagger and 0xEAE Fuzz. It’s super rough and apologies for the shaky camera! I’d love to do a deep dive and proper demos of each as they’re capable of way more than I’m showing here but time is hard to find at the mo!3 points

@uk_lefty I remember reading this bold statement on BC several years back, think it was from Camden Rob. "TBH my Harley Benton JB-75 is more than capable for 99.9% of what I do, I have 3 Wal 6 strings for the other 0.1%." 😄3 points

We done a charity one in Newmarket last year. It was the 'promotors' first gig. We got booked and were chatting to him a month before the event: Promotor: "Year it's gonna be a good one, 14 bands" Us: "14?! We didn'tr realise it was a festival!" Promotor: "Well we have the venue from 17:00 - 00:00. Seven hours. Half hour sets. 14 Bands" Despite all of the bands protests it went on as 'planned' We played 3rd out of 14, I believe only 6 bands played. The rest were told to go home. There was a lot of backlash locally about it afterwards...3 points

Offered for sale is my long scale (34") Gretsch G5440LSB in beautiful Orange finish. Korean made in the Inchon factory back in April 2012, it looks brand new! I bought it in 2020 at the height of lockdown and it was pretty obvious that the previous owner had barely touched it. As it happens, I've used it on a couple of studio sessions but I don't believe I ever took it out to a show. I bought the fitted Gretsch case to go with it (I like to do things properly). The reality is that it is in my spare room and not going out like my other basses. I had it professionally set up and put flatwound strings on it. These seem to be going upward of a £1k these days without the case but I tend to price to sell so I am looking at £850. I'm between Swindon and Newbury BUT if you want it posted, I'd look to do that with Royal Mail for an extra £35 for UK mainland postage and packing. I am afraid I won't entertain posting overseas as it gets too expensive. Anyone is welcome to come over and try before they buy. It was one of my dream basses but the reality is that I can't afford to have such a quality item sat around not being used. No trades as I have everything I need right now. Feel free to search out my feedback thread to see that I'm fair / not a serial killer and thanks for looking.3 points

If you are handy with a soldering iron it's pretty easy to make a power cable shorter. Snip out an over lay ie opposing short and long tails, and then trim overall length to suit. Don't forget your heat shrink. Doing it overlayed makes for only one piece of heat shrink required and a nice neat job.2 points

Both printers are now back on line. Two new E3D extruders from Amazon and some quick changes and some recalibration back for 0.4mm nozzles and we're printing. As the next lot of prints are circa 9 hours each and need constant attention, I'll start tomorrow.2 points

The only NYE gig I've ever done, the "live" entertainment ended before midnight and DJs took over for the actual transition into the new year. Stopping for the new year count down wouldn't have fitted with any of the three bands playing that night.2 points

I tell you this for nothing - New Year's Eve (Hogmanay) is also my birthday, so you're goddamn right it is my birthday all bloomin' day from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59 on the 31st!2 points

I have to agree. The Gibsons I’ve looked at recently have been poorly finished and very overpriced. Sound wise I prefer my Tokai too. I would love to own a Gibson TB, it’s been on my list a long time, but so far I haven’t been overly excited about the ones I’ve tried. Maybe the vintage ones are better? I mean why make (an expensive) Rex Brown signature model, that doesn’t have his preferred pickups in it? Gibson are a conundrum for sure.2 points

That's pretty cool, though I am more interested in the bass, more specifically that amazing red finish, is it just that picture, or does its actual color really resemble that of the photo, and if so was that the stock color and what is the name of that finish? Also what is it, a Squier/Fender Jaguar (judging from the controls), or something more exotic?2 points

I got one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00GYWLR9Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I liked the outcome - it was gentler than I expected, but I fully reccomend trying it out on another piece of wood first. It took some of the sharpness off the fret edges as well.2 points

Surely that doesn’t count as a NYE gig as you havnt played into 2024 ? I thought that was the normal for venues ??2 points

There’s some lovely audience singing on this one… Bear in mind the previous two videos were from larger festival stages… in the smaller environments like Pizza Express he’s a lot more sympathetic2 points

I was lucky in that about 10 years ago I was able to build up a collection of about 50 guitars and basses, so that when it came to pare it down to just the instruments I really wanted was going to actually use it was easy to compare and contrast and make a decision about which I liked and which I was just owning because I could. I'm now down to two 5-string basses, two Bass VIs and two guitars, which is basically a main and a backup for each. It would be nice to still have most of the instruments I sold, but the ones I kept are the ones that were getting the most use and therefore it's better that the others have hopefully gone to people who will actually play/gig/record them and not keep them unplayed in their cases.2 points

Not all have the hole. It was absent from my first 4 PB-50's. Present on one from the first run when Thomann switched factory in May 2018, absent from the red left hander bought last year. Yes, I've owned multiple PB-50s and never felt the need to return a single one. It's been one of the most important basses I've ever bought, had a house full of pretty basses with active EQ, CF/Graphite necks, fancy aftermarket brand pickups/ tuning pegs/bridges etc. One £78 purchase put an end to that malarkey. 9, soon to be 10, years later, PB-50 still brings a smile to my face 🙂2 points
