I was in two minds whether to post this but as we were live in public thought it fitted this thread; last night my duo Deadlight Dance played on Don't Stop the Music Show on Swindon 105.5FM. As part of the hour long special they played our last single and interviewed us but we got to play five acoustic songs on air, going out live. It was quite daunting because you just don't know who is listening. Because there it was 100% acoustic, I decided to do my performance on the mandolin as I thought the bass wouldn't cut through. At the time it felt relaxed and the feedback was great. I've since listened to the show and over analysed the fun out of it a bit more but, no, it was good! I could tell that Peggy-Sue really liked us and she was great at putting us at ease. I felt the conversation was fairly effortless and we are definitely keen to come back once we have finished our album.10 points

Purchased from Danny at Bass Japan Direct and waylaid in Germany due to labour strikes, this arrived safe and sound on my doorstep this morning. It's all original and the date is a close approximation, as with these sorts of instruments. It's somewhere between 83-85 based on the serial number. Small amount of setup required given it's week and change trotting the globe, and the low E intonation took some dialing in, but playing beautifully now at 1.75mm (as is my preference) and the pickups sound superb. It's perhaps a little difficult to spot in the photos, but there's a lovely sun tan effect that's happened on the headstock and neck, sending the white into a more cream colour. Definitely got the played-in feel that you'd expect something pushing 40 to have. I'm mostly just sad at how played-in I feel at only 30 😂5 points

Today, something special happened. Last week I got a call from the editor-in-chief of the Dutch bass magazine, if I wanted to check a radio knob Stingray. Well, of course I did. I literally just bought this a few days ago and have immediately spotted something else that I'd like to buy. 😁 I would consider trades but am aiming for a sale. I purchased this because I thought it looked cool but, when I received it, I was more blown away by how nice it was to play a 30' scale bass. It sounds great and has been looked after very well. I originally purchased this from Chris at Alpher Instruments, and so it's recently (couple of weeks ago) had brand new 'Newtone' strings and a complete setup. I few weeks ago I was given a Honer LX 90 B by a friend. It had a bit of wiring to sort out and a broken nut as well as a good deal of body damage. On close investigation the body appears to be a slab of very heavy mdf so a refinish is not to my taste. It sounds OK has good acoustic sustain and has a rather nice neck. I have a Gear 4 Music solid Ash P bass body being delivered to me today along with a new nut for around £57 inc shipping. I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Let the fun begin. I love the fact that they come up with the 5 string PJ, even if it is a limited run for a specific dealer..... I think it was way overdue for the Euro line. I've seen only one PJ Euro 5 before and that was a custom order through the Czech workshop. I have a pre-LX Euro 5 that I put a J and a P in - in the EMG40 housing- so technically it is a PJ albeit optically not 🙂4 points

Thanks all One last thing….. nothing needed changing on this bass, despite reviews saying the contrary. The tuners were smooth, bridge works…. You know? This is not a Fodera…. it’s old school! And by the way, the pickups are ace, both of them. The mudbucker, especially with flats, sounds like an upright to me. Beefy tone from this bass, typical of a shorty. There’s no need to do anything to this bass, just plug an play.4 points

You can see the stock tuners are little less substantial than the Gotohs, but honestly they were fine really. Fretboard was pretty dirty while applying lemon oil. Apart from an annoying crackle from the blend knob, all else seems pretty good. After changing the tuners, and setting it up with a set of short scale TI flats (that are still too long btw) I’m happy, that it’s a cool, old school vibe addition to my basses.4 points

Ampeg SVT Pro Mk II I am reducing this and making a substantial loss on it but I need it gone as I am moving house. I can’t post it and a commercial courier wouldn’t touch it because of the weight. You’ll need to come and pick it up so I figure reducing it by a chunk may incentivise a potential buyer to put petrol in a car and drive over to Lancaster. I will consider trades - try me. This is definitely a massive bargain. Classic US built valve amp. You’ll no doubt have seen or heard one of these in action at major gigs and festivals over the years. I’ve played through a couple and they shift huge amounts of valve power through the right cab. My little Jennings cab can’t cope! There’s lots of info online about these - I got it in a recent part trade with Walshy. I have to be honest and say it’s a beautiful beast of an amp but just too big for my needs and so I’m selling it on. It’s got a very nice flight case with it and is all there having recently been serviced - It didn’t come with a mains lead but it’s your normal kettle lead job. Strictly pickup in person. I can’t lift or even pack things at the moment owing to tendon surgery. I’m selling for what it owes me and what it was originally listed at. I’d consider trades for a similar value instrument or amp. A short scale bass plus balance - eg short scale Sterling Stingray plus £300. Or a nice Precision with a maple board. The Ash P bass body in gloss natural finish. It's made from 4 pieces but the finish it better than some lower end guitars I have seen and for £49.99 plus shipping I am happy with what arrived. No dings, scratches or other nasties. Neck pocket and cavities cut nicely and neatly. It does need its bridge hole drilling through but I have a drill bit for that somewhere that I made years ago. Ordered yesterday and arrived this afternoon. Happy with that. When I ordered it they had 20 in stock3 points

This was mine for a few months! Very eye-catching on most stages haha! Bought it from Bass Bro's earlier in the year just for a laugh (plus the LED's) a great little stingray in general and an artist I was on tour with specifically requested I use I use it in the choreography of his show (turning the lights on etc) It was custom painted & the LED's fitted by Sims for a guitar show years ago.3 points

If you like the instrument but just want to tame the output a little, this is good advice. Find a pre that doesn't require alteration to the instrument and that you can remove and replace with the original should you sell and you're good to go.3 points

I’m going to stick my neck out here and say I don’t like it and don’t get it! Also every demo makes the bass super anaemic and thin before the pedal is turned on - well what were you doing before when you played that bass to demo some other pedal where it sounded perfect? Even so I always think the bypassed sound is much better but these boutique fizzy preamp pedals seem to be all the rage at the moment. Just not for me I guess.3 points

There were customs charges unfortunately yes, came to 20% so if you did order you essentially need consider that in as a part of the package price. Still came out to cheaper than an MIM Fender these days, so I wasn't too fussed and Danny gave me quality estimate charges and made me clear and aware of everything. He was a pleasure to deal with for sure.3 points

Out of the box, it’s a really lovely thing. Actually nicely set up, I assume by Andertons QC, it play’s really nice…. the nut is cut a bit high, but that’s easily fixed, and I already have a set of Gotoh tuners here, but the rest will stay stock. I’ll post some opinions on sound later3 points

Lovely Fender Mexico Jazz Blacktop bass up for grabs. You don't see many of these, especially not with the mods here. So it's a standard Blacktop jazz bass, I think from 2011, with the following excellent mods: EMG "Geezer Butler" humbuckers in both positions Babicz Full Contact bridge, Z series, in black Black Schaller tuners Black metal knobs It sounds absolutely awesome with the currently-installed flats, with some really dark sub tones coming out of the EMGs but still retaining the precision/jazz character. I love Babicz bridges, & I'm sure the bridge here adds to the tone. Low action, no electrical issues, etc. There are a couple of scratches (which I'm sure could be polished out) & one ding, which I've attempted to picture. It has the usual signs of light usage but nothing noticeable. Also I don't have the original bridge or pickups, I traded for it on BC & this is how it came. So, collection from pretty central Bath. I'll also drive it for a fair distance (say 100 miles max), or meet up somewhere, but postage only at your arrangement. Thanks for looking!2 points -
I’m moving this beautiful MM Stingray on it’s totally mint condition like new. I can’t see a single mark on it. It’s super light at 7.5 LBS comes with its original case. If buyer wants to arrange a courier that’s fine or if you want to try before you buy that’s not a problem. The original pick guard that comes with the bass is white pearl. I’ve taken the black guard of one of my other Stingray’s. I’m not looking for any trades at the moment.2 points -
lots to go through here. a lot of surprises whereby some of my favourite lines have terrible tone on their own (to me obviously) i don't like rio or tom sawyer at all. i think standouts of what i've listened to so far for me are smashing pumpkins (cherub rock) and the police (every little thing she does is magic) but there's so much to choose from (If you click on the lines icon you'll see the list)2 points

Yep - it's pretty amazing, I have it set up as 2 gain stages from break up point to distortion, then fuzz on top with the OFF1. I could see it working beautifully too with one stage of gain and then OFF1 on low gain setup for the distortion, it'd work too. The Broadcast on the pre loop does sharpen it up and I do love it as a boost to squeeze the Capo yet more too...! It is pricey, but for my case (dodged taxes somehow ) it was as much as a King Tone Duellist (which I considered) but with the added DI post/pre and the post/pre loops... No brainer if you ask! PS: Just conscious the last page or so have clearly become 'The Joe & Ander Show' lol apologies! hopefully the impressions are useful to others2 points

I played about 15 seconds of each of the tracks that I was interested in and the thing that struck me was that how terrible most of the isolated sounds were, but how perfect they are when you hear the final mix. It all goes to prove that there is no great bass tone, just one that works well with a particular combination of musicians and instruments, and why for the most part chasing someone else's tone is a futile exercise.2 points

Try the effects loop trick first. Get a jack plug and insert/remove it several times in the send and return. Or connect send to return with a lead. If not used the effects jacks can oxidise causing the issue you describe. If you need it looking at speak to Dave or Guy at Ashdown as they repair and service Trace gear now. Makes sense as Ashdown were born out of the TE purchase by Peavey.2 points

I had a similar issue with my Jack Casady, the tool in the OP was about as much use as a bucket of warm spit. I then got hold of the'Jack the Gripper' tool cheap and it worked very well. (I subsequently applied some threadlock and haven't had an issue since).2 points

Bushings in. Was a right pain in the hole. Had to slightly sand the tuner holes to make them just a touch bigger. Then i used a hammer and a wrench socket to gently tap them in just enough so they didnt fall out, then i used a C clamp and and block of wood on the back of the neck to slowly tighten them into place. Got them perfectly flush and i cant imagine they'd be slipping out. Again, a minor update but i would have liked to have found a thread with all these type of minor updates in one place when starting.2 points

Sold out pre-tour warm up show at Teignmouth Pavilion Theatre on Friday night with Leather & Lace.... great gig with best IEM sound I've ever had thanks to a fill-in last minute tech who really knew their stuff! Lots of compliments on the Spector/GK tones outfront too! All ready for our 'Bootleg Rock Show' theatre tour in May/June now 😎🎸🎶 Sat night I played with the function band at a fabulous private 40th bday gig in the grounds of an amazing old house in Stow On The Wold. We were well looked after, there was great food & drink, lots of well bred ladies and mucho audience singing and dancing 😃2 points

I don't see anything on BC I would describe as pop ups. I see banner ads at the top of the page, which I find completely unobtrusive, but nothing that intereferes with using the site. I would define pop ups as those ads or vids you get which open in the middle of a page, usually obscuring whatever it is that you're trying to look at. I've never seen them on BC. Tbh I have no problem with the people that own and run the site trying to make money off a service I use everyday. Which reminds me.......(Finally gets round to renewing supporting memebership)2 points

I own exactly the same model. The build-quality of these are one of the best MiM P-Basses Fender built over the last years. The fretwork is flawless and you can achieve a really low action if needed. The neck is perfectly finished and feels great, but it's the fattest neck I know. The neck-body fitting is superb. And last but not least the tone of these basses is just phenomenal. If you are looking for a classic growling Precision-tone and great dynamics, this is it. Gotta say, this one rivals the US made instruments any day in terms of quality and sound. Really a bargain at this pricepoint.2 points
