In Tewkesbury last night at The Roses theatre. Capacity audience of just under 400 in this arts centre probably dating back to the 70’s. Easy load in and set up, then a great Thai meal just round the corner at the historic Black Bear Inn. Superb Pad Thai for a tenner, and some marvellous ales too. Oh yeh, the gig - it went well, no problems, well received and that’s it really! Just about to set off to Swansea now for our gig there tonight at The Grand Theatre.16 points

Right, so that's absolutely magnificent Admittedly, I spend a lot of time lately listening to solo fingerstyle guitar recordings so I may be more open to this than many bass player. This is all magnificent but what stands out is how expressive his tapping is. I believe he is on another level compared to all the other youtube show-offs I am aware of. Not because of his chops, but because even at the frantic pace he has to publish videos in his line of business, he still often makes some great music. The objection to youtubers is often that their chops won't account for much in a band context. Well I'd rather take this than the mediocre stuff that 99% of bands record.9 points

I believe this purchase which arrived today grants me admission to the club. It's the EHB1506MS. It's my first 6 string, first Ibanez, first multiscale, first headless and my first experience with Nordstrand pickups! I had tried one of these out by accident in PMT about a year ago. My friend was trying out a guitar and one of these was set up plugged into an amp. I thought it was the oddest looking bass, but was surprised how comfortable and easy it was to play. Now that I have one, my opinion hasn't changed. Well made, lightweight, easy to play and sounds great. I've read that some others have found quality issues, but no problems so far. The Neutrik locking jack is pointless in my opinion, but not a problem for me as I have a Gibson Les Paul that I bought new in 2008 which has one and has never caused me any issues. The look of the bass doesn't fit the usual aesthetic of the music I'm playing in the one band I'm in at the moment playing bass (Allman Bros, Dire Straits, Clapton, Christopher Cross, Steely Dan, Hall & Oates etc). However, I don't much care and I don't think my band mates or the audience will either. I'm looking forward to experimenting with it!9 points

Hi Folks, For Sale/For Trade: Fender 50's Classic Lacquer MIM Precision bass. I'm looking for £750 ono (which is what I paid for it). But I could also be tempted by an interesting trade - quality cab, short-scale bass, et, etc.. So, I bought this fantastic sounding P Bass here on Basschat a year ago from Jon, aka @Mudpup, who I'm sure will attest to what a great bass it is... It's called a Classic P Bass for a reason, and that's because it sound like you always imagined a P Bass should! Its punchy, growly, full and warm sounding and works great in just about any musical setting you can think of where electric basses are used... I bought it for a recording project (which it was perfect for) but now that particular project's finished, I find I'm not using it so much - preferring instead, my G&L SB1 because it has more of a Jazz neck profile.. To quote Jon: ".. this has a Nitro finish and is the same series as the sought after Mexican Roadworn basses. It's effectively a Roadworn without the factory relic job - you can give it some genuine wear yourself. And of course it's iconic Black and Maple 🙂" Alder body, one piece lightly sanded maple neck with the skunk stripe and the truss rod is working fine. Possibly due to the wider neck, these basses are very stable and very resonant sounding. Weighs is approx 8.6lbs. Previous owner fitted a Hipshot Detuner which correctly matches the reverse winding tuners on this model. And the original tuner comes with the bass. A Black White Black WD pickguard has been fitted, but the original brass anodised guard is also included. Another quote from Jon's For Sale ad last year, which still holds true: "Condition is used with some dinks and marks in the nitro finish. There is light scratching on the back but not full on buckle rash. You can see buckleworm on the back up close. It's all genuine mojo wear though and looks fine from a few feet away - this is a gig machine rather than a case queen." A Fender deluxe gig bag is included. Ideally, collection from Potton in Central Bedfordshire, 3 miles from the Beds/Cambs border is preferred, but I'd be happy to meet up within a reasonable distance if that helps. Trial of the bass is welcomed. I've got amps in the house and a Zoom B3 + headphones set up for a car meet if it helps. Plus the obligatory tea/coffee /biscuits of course.. Another story, from many years ago so the details are quite hazy. My first ever band, mid nineties, from Canvey Island. I must have been around 17 years old at the time. Me on bass (plugged straight into our cheap PA - not even a DI box - yes we were quite poor), my brother on guitar (with a Vox AC50 he bought off a mate for next to nothing) and my mate Kelly on drums. Our PA was an old, very basic, powered mixer - (like those ones in rehearsal rooms, but worse - probably only had about 4 channels) and a couple of Wemm 4x10 columns we acquired from someone for free. Anyway, we were hired by a local impresario to play at his street party. It was apparently his way of thanking his neighbours for putting up with his noisy comings and goings at all hours. He told us that he knew Peter Green's family (another Canvey native) and that Peter's niece was coming along. She approached us after we played and said our version of 'Albatross' was one of the best she had heard in years. Unbeknownst to us, someone had recorded it as well. Fast forward a couple of weeks later and my brother bumped into the same girl. She told him she had played the tape recording to her Uncle Peter and he was very impressed and started reminiscing. Not long later, Peter came out of his self-imposed hibernation with his "Splinter Group". I'd like to think we had something to do with that.8 points

£1200 ono Beautiful Maruszczyk Elwood L 5a 24 for sale. Super lightweight active jazz bass with a huge array of tones and a really low action without any buzzing and a lovely neck that makes this such a comfortable instrument to play. Purchased brand new from Bass Direct in 2016. I played it a fair bit in the first year and then changed bands for one where a beat up P bass was far more appropriate and this has largely sat in its bag ever since. It has a couple of minor dinks (all in photos) but is generally in great shape and sounds massive with both pickups in parallel mode. Just 3.66kg it has an alder body with a maple burl top and matching headstock in natural matte finish. The neck is hard rock maple with a birds eye maple fingerboard. Hardware as follows: - Pickups - Bassculture 38 HB Humbuckers with maple burl covers - Preamp - 3 band delano with 3 way mini switch for each pickup (series/single coil/parallel). - Bridge - Maruszczyk E45 - 18mm string spacing - Tuners - Wilkinson Currently strung with pretty much brand new Elixir Stainless Steel but also comes with the original Maruszczyk strings. Comes in the original Maruszczyk gig bag with all the original certificates and documentation. Collection from South Northamptonshire (near Towcester which is on the A43 halfway between J15a of M1 and J10 of M40) where I have a quality amp and cab that you can plug into. I gig quite a lot accross the country so may be able to meet up somewhere. I am absolutely not prepared to post this I'm afraid. Thanks for looking.7 points -
Well the topic said 'post your pedalboard' - so that is exactly what I am doing!! WHAT a beast! Always wanted Moog Taurus pedals - never could afford them. Behringer (despite what everyone says about them) have nailed the Taurus. Landed a mint set of Roland PK5A pedals on fleabay, i am already blown away... Now all I need a 2000w amp and a couple of 8x10 cabs...and brace myself for the ASBO!7 points

Much to my regret, circumstances mean I have to let this one go It’s a fantastic bass, beautifully made, very straight neck, incredibly easy to play, sounds amazing either passive or active, and can do a huge variety of tones (even a surprisingly good impression of a P bass!) Condition is almost perfect, including the chrome which hasn’t tarnished unlike most you see. There are a couple of minor dings on the side which I’ve tried to show in the pictures Afaik it’s all original, including the bridge which is nice as it allows adjustment of the string spacing Cash on collection only, sorry but I don’t trust delivery these days. I’m just off J16 of the M4 so pretty easy to get to. Doesn’t come with a case or bag4 points -
I sold a bass to Frankie Poullain from The Darkness. I had listed it for sale on Gumtree, and I met him outside my old office in Canary Wharf to hand it over. It was an Epiphone Thunderbird, and he said that he wanted a cheaper one to play at home, as he was worried about leaving his expensive Gibson ones lying around with young kids in the house!4 points

Oh, I remember another one: Markus Stockhausen, trumpet player and son of Karlheinz. In '79 or later, preparing for a gig, I met this bloke my age in the corridors, and we immediately found the tone together so our conversation went on and on ... Luvverly. Later that day I met him again, and he turned towards a gentleman at his side, saying: "Dad, here's my new friend. I mentioned him". The gentleman shaking my hand uninterestedly was only Karlheinz Stockhausen ... So ... to this day, I maintain that when I had a gig in the Main Hall, Stockhausen had to accept Hall no 2. (The only reason was that the main hall had the pipe organ we needed. Stockhausen drew all the audience. 😃 ) Anyway, Markus later had his own musical career, which reportedly continues to this day. Since this thread also mentions people who were already famous: Bill Bruford wanted to kick my årse! I've told the story before, but: a college percussion band (who were being instructed by Bruford that week) asked me to dep on piano, as they said for an easy piece of music: "Very simple! You'll do it sightreading!" Slight detail: the piece was a modern, avant-garde like, mainly percussion piece, and I didn't know it. I had no idea how to count the empty bars, and knew nothing about when to put in my tiny piano part. So I kept totally silent, seeing a grumpy Bruford in the audience, on row three or so, looking me in the face. The next two days people warned me I'd better hide, as Bruford was fuming, and searching the whole building for me, wanting to kick my behind. I remember me saying before: I fear his mouth more than his boot. 😂4 points

The guitarist and singer of one of the bands I'm in have been in bands together previously. One of their previous bands were doing quite well locally and another band on the scene that had supported them before got hold of them and asked to play support at their upcoming Tavistock Wharf gig. They said they had some record company types that wanted to see them ASAP and the Wharf would be the perfect venue. My bandmates band thought some record company exposure could be good so jumped at the idea. Roll on plenty of years and that guitarist and singer are in a band with me and their support band did alright out of the deal as well I think. I don't know where they are now. They were called Muse.4 points

Only the tiniest of brushes for me. For a year or so back in 1999 I lived in a flat that was next to 'The House that Jagger' owned (My partner at the time was flatsitting long term for a super well off college friend). On a couple of occasions, we were kept up into the wee hours by the sound of partying and the smell of weed (Jagger had bought the flat below the one we were in and turned it into a music space. About 7 years ago the ukulele band I was in (playing ubass) got the chance to perform on the main stage at the Brighton Dome (OMG it was SO much fun!), where ABBA won Eurovision ... and to top it off, we were assigned the same dressing room they had used ... jättebra!! I have, in no particular order, either chronologically or in fame terms: Had a wee in a pub bogs next to Mick Hucknall when he was still in The Frantic Elevators. Been told to f*ck off by Lemmy - he was occupied at the one armed bandit in the club...I was delighted, went back to my friends and said 'Lemmy's just told me to f*ck off!' 'Brilliant!' Shared a rehearsal room with James. Never saw them. Played a terrible version of Sit Down to Tim Booth in a bar...his wife (very drunk) said if we did it again he'd get up and sing. I looked over her shoulder and he was shaking his head and waving his hands. I didn't blame him. Played a middling version of Not Nineteen Forever in a pub to 75% of the Courteeners. They looked amused, at least. Done the After You Claude Two-Step thing in a bar doorway with Roger McGough (poet, broadcaster, author, etc) in Manchester. Two weeks later I was coming out of a bar in Bruges and exactly the same thing happened. He looked shaken, and I don't blame him, either. Completely failed to strike up a conversation with Richie Sambora when our drummer brought him over to our table. He went 'Hey', we went 'Errrr..hey?'. Cue awkward silence, exit Sambora. Played with JP Cooper at his first pub gig. He's been signed to Island awhile, and was last on the telly doing a BBC2 thing about Bob Marley last year. Played with members of a Number One Album band at a lot of jam nights - The Lottery Winners, who supported Rick Astley at the Arena last week. They were back in the bar again the following day. Been to a solo gig (£8 ticket) in an audience of about 50 people to a new singer/acoustic guitarist lad, he was very good. Got chatting to him afterwards, he was very polite and quite posh. Driving home, I said 'He'll go far, that lad. What was his name again?' 'My other half said 'George Ezra'.3 points

I would try & find out a ballpark value for the expected (nominal) current drain first of all [either from owner(s) of similar version/age bass, or from Status], so you can then select an appropriate current range on your meter, if necessary If your meter has a suitable DC mA range (and with the red meter cable in the socket marked mA, if necessary, otherwise red cable in usual red socket): disconnect battery from its connector clip and reconnect with just the negative terminal of the battery connected to the usual connector on the clip; plug instrument jack cable into bass jack socket; select DC mA range on meter (or DC A if meter autoranges?); hold black meter probe to unoccupied positive connector on battery clip; hold red meter probe on battery positive connector; read mA drain on battery by bass control circuit (changing range if necessary to get valid display) HTH3 points

On Wednesday I had a call to ask if I was available for a duo gig on guitar tonight. Later that day it became a trio with me on bass (hoorah!) and my mate on drums in a line up that last played together two years ago (even bigger hoorah as it was a good line up). We met Wednesday evening to go through the set and it was clear the drummer wasn't well with some kind of bug. On Thursday, he told us he couldn't do the gig and it became a duo again. The singer said he had a dep drummer and it became a trio once more. This morning, after several phone calls it has finally been declared a duo gig. In the last three days I've been swapping guitars/bass/pedal boards and amp/cab combinations more often than a progressive rock musician. But I've decided to take my HB Bass VI along to give it an airing as well as the toy guitar. The gig is a semi regular event for the local Caravan and Camping club (I haven't played it for a couple of years but the singer does a couple a year for them) and we're hoping for band bookings. It is almost classical guitar but on a bass - except the longer scale length allows for the tapping which is much harder to get quite the same on a nylon string classical guitar. But yes - I would rate Charles as one of the most impressive musicians on any instrument at the moment.3 points

Long before I picked up a bass , several of us from the 6th Form took the day off school to watch the filming of "Stand and deliver" by Adam and the Ants in Hatfield Park. Despite being at the height of his fame he took the time to chat to fans and sign autographs. I even managed to leave with a signed mirror used in the video.3 points

Taking the thread is about people who became famous later: Jean-Michel Jarre. I was to study in Paris in the mid '70s, and one of my teachers-to-be introduced me to one JeanMi, a semi-ex-student who reportedly was recording an album ... in his kitchen LOL. Amongst other things, JeanMi showed me around in Paris, guided me to my dwellings, and told me we were gonna be great friends. Didn't see him again after that ... ... until I recognised his face in a musicians' mag much later - in an article about him and a certain album called "Oxygène". Only recently did I happen upon the fact that Jean-Michel in fact used "Jammie" as his moniker, not JeanMi, and it explains how I really didn't get it when he wanted me to pronounce it without any sound that could remind of a half-hidden "n".3 points

I'll have to double check when i get home but i think they are the same thread as computer case screws, I removed the feet from our guitarist's cry baby and i'm fairly sure that's what i used in their place as i have quite a stash of them. I don't have the pedal but i do have the original feet and screws safely stored away. Matt EDIT - for the OP I use the Velcro heavy duty (the proper branded stuff) I buy it in big packs from screwfix.2 points
