An update for those of us searching for information on the cases relating to Michael Mason. There was indeed a hearing (at Leicester Magistrates Court) on 10th September 2025. The result of that hearing was that the defendant was given unconditional bail and the case was sent to the Crown Court. That next hearing will be on 26th November 2025 at Leicester Crown Court. That's a little over four weeks away. I found this out by calling the Telephone Enquiries line, here: 0330 808 4407 (Crime customer service centre - Monday to Friday 08:30am to 5pm, Saturday 8:30am to 2pm). I found those contact details on this page https://www.find-court-tribunal.service.gov.uk/courts/leicester-magistrates-court . Before I was given the information by the clerk, I was asked to provide a case reference number (33JJ0821825 - which I picked up from when the case was current at Leicester Magistrates Court), and I also needed to confirm my relationship to the case (I was a friend of the victims of the alleged crimes). I have also made other enquiries about the case - you are welcome to DM me if you are interested (or eager, or impatient), but I expect to be able to share those further details in 20 days time.12 points

We had an acoustic gig at a Holloween party tonight. Way out in the country. It was freezing. Very low key gig. Excellent food. Daryl12 points

Another dep job tonight (seem to be doing alot lately) with a fairly local funk/soul outfit down in a Worthing pub. Went well I think, the band members seemed very happy with my performance. Used my yammy TRB 5 through my trusty puma 900 and a single LFsys Monza. Very happy with that rig. Pissing down for the load out but hey ho! A fun evening! X11 points

Now down to 4 basses in my stable, two medium scale ACGs (below), a short scale ACG and short scale Conway Instruments fretless. Ever since Alan built me my first 32” bass back in 2014/5 it’s felt like “home”, and after several iterations as I played around with different shapes, woods and pickups, earlier this year he built me what I can only describe as the most perfect bass for me - the 5 string RetroB (see here). I’ve thoroughly enjoyed gigging her all summer and got to thinking how comfortable I find the RetroB shape both seated and standing, and how much I love the RFB pickup in the bridge position (essentially an ACG take on an MM). So I commissioned a 4 string version. It’s less exotic - no fancy top wood and accent veneer, no blocks in the board - but it’s scratched an itch I’ve had for years about having a black/maple bass whilst also giving me the shape and tones I am after. So these are my medium scale siblings now and I really can’t see anything making me want to change them.10 points

I now have the wood to make three of these, so I think I'll make two and the third one will be the extractor fan box for a spray booth. I got some of the wood from Skipton and still ended up in Kendal for other reasons, so tried B&Q. Their website says they have loads of 21mm x 21mm PSE in isle 35. Nope not a single piece of wood 21mm x 21mm. I forget why I never liked B&Q but its good to be reminded. I have done the port already, clearly in red as I have an awful lot of that left Not sure how I'll mount it but suspect I'll try silicone or possibly wood glue or if all else fails, three screws through. I'll try and make the port using a small hand router and print a routing template so I end up with a nice finish. Pity I can't easily print the whole cab Am going out now to fire up the circular saw. Wish me luck....I may be gone some time.... Rob8 points

Hi folks, for sale is my wonderful Adamovic Soul 5 from 2024. I bought it from Bass Freaks in Belgium. I have to thin out the herd and that‘s why I want to sell some basses. After years of buying, selling and trading it‘s time to "settle down" with just a 2 or 3 basses. This bass is in super condition with just only minor signs of wear, but no big scratches, marks, dings or dongs. I played it for some rehearsals and a few gigs. Electronics and truss-rod work with no issues. Frets are in very good condition, too. Comes with a high quality gig or a Hiscox case as you prefer. Here are the specs: Scale: 34'' Top-Wood: Quilted maple, hardended Color: Pistachio green Body-Wood: Red Alder Neck-wood: Maple/wenge Fingerboard: Rosewood Inlay: Edge inlay, glow in the dark Tuners: Hipshot ultralites Bridge: Hipshot A style Pickups: Jazz, slanted Electonics: Glockenklang, 3-band Pick up is preferred, but we can arrange shipping to buyer's expense and risks. Maybe we can meet in person somewhere on half distance. If you need more pictures let me know. No warranty, no return and no guarantee because I am a private seller. But all informations is provided to the best of my knowledge and belief. I am open to trade, but there are only a few basses that I am interested in. Maybe Adamovic 6 String, Mattison; but you can try to lead my into temptation. (In case of trading we have to meet in person, no shipping!) Here is a video with a sound sample: IMG_3722.heic4 points

I was looking for a second PBass to use alongside my Player II Nearly went Squier but decided to try out these new Standed series It’s a nice bass and fretwork and neck is lovely to play. Noticeable difference in tone from the ceramic pickups in as much as it’s brighter and clearer sounding, less warm and vintage and more modern Set up out of the box was decent apart from pickups were not set slanted to match neck profile etc Slight tweek on truss rod and she was playing sweetly Wasn’t sure about the Olympic White colour as it’s more cream than white but it quickly grew on me. I did own a polar white and I thought it was closer to that but I would say closer to cream Tuners are good and work well as does bridge etc For a £500 bass I think it’s a nice balance of quality, tone and cost. As I've just moved to Riga, I thought I'd check out some jam nights to see if I can find some musicians to hook up with. However, it's turned out to be some of the worse musical experiences I've ever encountered, to the extent that I'd say it's been audible torture. First off, a commune style, shoes off, basement studio where those not playing an 'instrument' were handed a djembe. What a noise with no direction as far as I could see very little talent (I'm trying not to be condescending but it was awful). I think it actually might have been a recruitment drive for the Hare Krishna movement (they have a big presence here). Nice people tho. Then there was a bar which had local musicians hosting a jam night, but nobody seemed to know what to play so it was just noodling. Another bar, this time a bunch of teenagers who sounded like they'd just picked up their instruments with someone on 'vocals' doing a trumpet impression. So, off to the jazz club and they host a jam night and the local jazz musicians are v talented.... so talented in fact that it instantly turned into free jazz nonsense and I had to leave (don't get me wrong, I love jazz but free jazz is a mess that only those playing get anything from it). It seems like there's either no prep or the musicians just don't know what to play. I mean, how difficult can it be to be musical over ii V I or I V IV! Once I do find some blues musicians I'll try and redress the balance by having regular jam nights based on blues and jazz standards (bring your fake book type stuff). In the meantime where are you @nilorius?! Our resident Riga bass player needs to introduce me to some musicians..... please! An excerpt from the Krishna recruitment evening. We're in Andover tonight. I feel like I've rocked up at a gunfight with a battleship. This is too much amp for the venue. It's like driving a McLaren around a supermarket car park. It's sounding incredible already and it's only been on 15 minutes. I put the second cab back in the car, it's too much with 4ohms and 2x Monaco. Edit: It took quite a bit of EQing to get the sound right but we got there. We switched to the EQ section and dialled up the low end just over flat and put a bump in the upper mids. I used Channel 2 (of course) and Volume at 4-5, Master at 3 and it was slamming. The signal path was Spector (EMG + HAZ dimed) - Origin DCX - Origin Cali76 - Mesa - Monaco. it's a nasty gritty clank of a tone but it's magic. When we did Dancing in the Dark, all I could think about was that it really really isn't what you'd ever choose for that song but it works. It was the best I've played in a while and I'm sure this beastie had something to do with it. We're in Oxfordshire somewhere tomorrow and it'll be going out again.4 points

FINAL PRICE £1450 Selling this lovely bass with a heavy heart. Gigged a couple of times but mostly used for Studio work. As much as I want to keep it, I need to sell this beauty as we are expecting our 2nd baby and I just paid for my ILR Visa so need to recoup some funds. Bought new from BassDirect this June. No mods, only thing I changed are the strings to La Bella Low Tension Flats. Bass weighs at 3.9kgs. I sold the original gig bag thinking I would never sell it but life happens so yeah. For collection only at SW19 area so please bring your own Gig bag/case. Willing to sell it with the Mono Vertigo for an additional £150 if needed. Collection only at SW19 or can meet somewhere in London on schedule. Any questions, feel free to message me.3 points

Well, it's started. This inevitable urge to simply go back to passive basses. I suppose getting handy with the soldering iron over the last few months on other basses, I've decided to start putting the basses that have had retro-fitted active electrons installed, back to passive. I'm just sick of batteries, and the disparity from bass to bass. Obviously the Spector is the only one that came with the preamp installed as stock, so that will be unaltered. Bliss.3 points

Your chance to own a piece of UK amplification history - a lovely AH250 Amp with the classic GP12 SMX Pre-amp. This one is equipped with a heat sink rather than a fan so is quiet enough for a studio but most definitely loud enough to gig with. It encompasses two pre shapes, blendable valve and Solid State pre's and dual band compression. In good order with everything working, comes in a tolex covered heavy duty sleeve. Note - one of the bolts that holds the amp in the sleeve is missing. There's some velcro stuck to the top of the sleeve. Looking for collection from Milton Keynes on this one - would be prepared to drive a reasonable distance for fuel. £250 and it's yours!3 points

Thanks all for the thoughts. Update: the holes weren't as off as it seemed to me they would be (and as the internet would have you believe). I went to try the one-screw line up as per Geek99's suggestion and then I noticed I could just about see the other wood hole through the second gotoh screw hole. Thus by lining them up so neither were dead centre I could just thread both holes. Sorry guys - turns out it was much ado about nothing! 🫣 All now installed and bass balances beautifully. Amazing how much difference the weight of 4 tuners can make to how a bass feels.3 points

I've got a Trace V4 Mk 2 which I love, and it's got a lot of history behind it. I don't think I'll ever part with it. Itused to be a 15" combo, but the band who were using it (who I spent a season with in Andorra at the Aspen Bar in Soldeu) finally wrecked the cab so badly - and the drummer partially dismantled it before asking for help as it was languishing in a leaky shed. No joke. Miraculously, the amp survived completely intact - after supplying dimensions to Zilla Cabs, they constructed a gorgeous head case for it, to my specs (with the V4 and V8 carry handle arrangements on it - which is so useful), and now it lives at home in the studio, although I do take it on gigs occasionally. The amp has some surprising features which make it ideal for studio use, including the ability to turn off the entire power amp section and use the all-tube preamp for recording. Aces.3 points

Fender Precision Bass 1978 Natural Finish Lightweight with Gig Bag I’ve reduced the price to encourage a quick sale. I doubt you will get as nice and light an example of a classic Fender Precision from this era. I’m also interested in a straight swap for a Rickenbacker model 4003 or 4003s. Thanks for looking. Fantastic Fender Precision bass from the late 70’s the only non-original part is the pickup which is a noughties US Fender wired to a series parallel switch. The pots, wiring, and hardware all original. You can see there’s currently a D tuner on it but if it sells I’ll return it to stock as I have the original tuner. The bass is factory natural with nicely grained wood. It’s light at around 3.7kgs - amazing for a bass of this era and the neck is slim with a shallow profile. There are the usual ID marks and sticker under the scratchplate with serial number matching the headstock. Sadly no case but I have a light modern Fender gigbag for it or if you prefer a scruffy heavier duty generic one. The bass balances really well and plays easily. There is lacquer wear at the upper bout and the finish has crazed over time. The finish is rubbed to near bare wood in places but it is honest wear and not particularly bothersome. You can feel the crazing when you rest your forearm on the edge, it didn’t irritate me when playing live. Great opportunity to buy a lightweight 70’s classic Fender. I’m sorry but the only trades I may be interested in are for a Rickenbacker 4003/4003s or 4000. Pickup preferred but I can post if absolutely necessary. UK only. Bit of an update I’ve replaced the Hipshot D tuner with the original Fender and it is now strung with TI flats. Sounds great! Set up with an easy low action.2 points

Hi folks, for sale is my awesome Ken Smith BT 5 from 1990. I got it here on basschat a few years ago. I have to thin out the herd and that‘s why I want to sell some basses. After years of buying, selling and trading it‘s time to "settle down" with just a 2 or 3 basses. This bass is in good - very good condition for its age, but has some dings or dongs as you can see on the pictures. The bass has been played, some folks see it as an advantage, others as a disadvantage. Electronics and truss-rod work with no issues. Frets are in very good condition, too. Comes with a non-original case, unfortunately I have no papers. Here are the specs I got from Ken Smith: Mahagony core Lacewood body/back, maple veneers Maple/Morado Neck Ebony fingerboard Neck-Through Weight 4,4 kg I replaced the original tuners ( I still have got them) with lighter tuners if you are playing standing up there is still a light neck diving because of the old BT form Pick up is preferred, but maybe I can arrange shipping to buyer's expense and risks. Problem is that there is limit for insurancy with most postal services. Maybe we can meet in person somewhere on half distance. If you need more pictures let me know. No warranty, no return and no guarantee because I am a private seller. But all informations is provided to the best of my knowledge and belief. I am open to trades, but there are only a few basses that I am interested in. Maybe Adamovic 6 String, Mattison; Ken Smith BSR 6 String, but you can try to lead my into temptation. (In case of trading we have to meet in person, no shipping!) Price is 5500 Euro. IMG_3017.heic2 points

Bloody hell! There is a thread somewhere about finger injuries. 🤣 I once sliced the tops of my index and middle finger on the day of a gig. I wrapped them in micropore, but halfway through our first set, someone from the audience was gesturing at my white bass that had splatter marks all across it. 🤦♂️2 points

For Sale: 1995 MusicMan Stingray 2EQ "Velvet Satin" Ltd Edition in Natural Ash with Aguilar Pickup & Aguilar OBP-2 Preamp. I'll start by saying that this is the best Stingray I've ever played/heard (and I recently owned a nearly new Stingray Special 5 amongst several others in the past.) It has a beautifully satin lacquer finished (not gunstock oiled, thankfully!) slim neck, and the punch/tone from the Aguilar OBP-2 Preamp & Aguilar AG4M pickup are second to none. I had the Aguilar pickup reinstalled earlier this year, which is voiced like a late seventies model. (There is a routing for a single coil under the scratch plate as well, as this bass was previously modified into a HS by a previous owner - this means it has four controls, but the second knob only blends to a single coil on the Humbucker.). This Ash bodied Stingray is also very light, at around 8.8lbs. Condition wise, I would give it a solid nine out of ten. It has the odd tiny, almost invisible ding, but this is in remarkable order for a 30 year old bass. Also, 30 year old Ash/Maple also resonates like you wouldn't believe. It has sustain for days. The bass comes complete with a 2005 MM Anniversary brown Hard Shell Case with gold interior & an unused spare String Mute kit from Bass Direct. Price is £1550, interesting trades considered. Buyer to collect from Derbyshire DE7, or will meet half way up to 100 miles. (Up to 200 miles total distance.) Sound Clips: (Recorded with Sennheiser Podcast Microphone from TC Electronic RH750 2x10 combo.) 95 Stingray 01.m4a 95 Stingray 02.m4a2 points

Are you based in Aus? If you're in the UK, courier and import costs will be quite high and if there are any further issues with the bass and you have to return it you could find yourself out of pocket. Seems a bit odd that a reputable seller got the year of production wrong which does make me wonder if they've made any other errors? I don't know the model, but in other model/ranges an 8-year difference in manufacturing dates can mean a significant difference in quality and value2 points

Didn't Leo Fender launch G&L who then made active and passive jazz and precision basses? So maybe it wasn't his intention that they should only be passive.2 points

The world is a poorer place without Anthony Jackson in it. I first came across him on the credits for Paul Simon's Greatest Hits album in the very early '80's. He played bass on Slip Sliding Away, and I was blown away by how he alternated between low notes and high-register passages played round the vocals. It's still one of my favourites. I know AJ is feted for his work on the 6 string contrabass, I love that, but I really enjoy his earlier work played mainly on Fender basses. Everybody knows For The Love Of Money, but he did some equally dazzling and inventive playing with a whole host of artists on the four string. And he was funky as anybody else you could name from back in those days, of course in his own inimitable way:2 points

Sarum’s Lot played at Qudos Bar in Salisbury last night, quiet-ish when we got there, but filled up to the gun holes as we set up, played okay, a few minor screw ups from all of us (which is unusual) but the crowd were very kind to us, partaking in lots of singing and dancing.😎 We must have done alright because the land lady booked us for NYE 2026, so that’s a right result, Qudos is our favourite venue to play in Salisbury. Next up we are at The Bull Hotel in Downton on the 31st for a Halloween party, fancy dress is the order of the day, our guitarist is taking things very seriously:2 points

Wedding gig at the Mythe Barn near Atherstone on the Warwickshire/ Leicestershire border. After a few weeks of modding and gigging with my Squier P + flatwounds, I grabbed two active Yamahas + round wounds for tonight’s gig. No doubt it was a wider, more complex and detailed bass sound, but I missed hearing the way that the burpy, woody P + flats sat in the overall mix at previous gigs. Was glad of the Yamahas for the few songs that needed slap bass etc though. Cool venue, lovely catering courtesy of a pizza oven in the beautifully illuminated courtyard just outside, plenty of people up dancing and a very decent gig all in. Rig was a single Markbass STD102HF cab, Little Mark lll head and my usual pedal board (Boss chorus and octave, a Korg tuner, Vintage Microtubes overdrive and a Cali76 compressor).2 points

If I may make the assumption that you drive a car (or ride a motorbike...), you may remember the very first time in charge. There's the whole process of starting off, then a permanent series of things that the brain and body must coordinate to make it work, safely. At first, there's the notion of braking and holding down the clutch, so as not to stall. Then the rigmarole of changing from one gear to the next, with hand and arm movements and foot control. Doing all of this thankfully becomes second nature, and after some practice, one may do these things subconsciously, with no mental effort, all the while listening to the cd player and holding down a conversation. How did that happen..? Yes, it's just good ol' solid repetition and practice. It comes all the faster if one takes it slowly, a bit at a time, without being too ambitious, too early. The more one does it, routinely, the better it becomes assimilated into one's reflexes. It's not that it's easy; it's as easy as the (small...) effort one puts into it. Anyone, including yourself, can do it, with just a little self-discipline and regular (once a day for a few minutes..?) exercise. Does this help..?2 points
