Agreed! If she looks like Tony Levin (shaved head, big grey moustache), then she is stage-ready.8 points

Great example of a classic bass in trans red from the early days of G&L when Leo Fender was firmly at the helm. Probably some of his finest work right here. The bass is in great played condition. Plenty of small dings and some checking to the finish but nothing untoward. I’ve had it professionally set up prior to the sale so nice action, oiled fret board and a new set of XL chromes fitted. I’m including a nice G&G hardcase in the sale, not original but a great case nonetheless. I sold a black ‘81 earlier this year for the same money as I’m asking for this which wasn’t as good and with a generic case so I think this represents decent value. All photos are in natural light. I can post if required or meet up within reason. Ideally I would like a straight sale as I’m in the middle of a house renovation so cash and space is king. Any questions please ask away.7 points

Well GAK had one in the sales and I pulled the trigger. It was less than some used ones I've seen advertised so I thought what the hell! I'll have to make do with the bridge for now until my credit card is in a more healthy condition but the Babicz will be on my shopping list. However I do have a bass with the Gibson 3 point and despite its limitations I've managed to set it up pretty well with a reasonably low and noise free action. A couple of months ago I finally scratched my Tbird itch with this Japanese Orville, a bass I never knew existed but after some research it seems that they're quite well regarded so I took the plunge. It doesn't disappoint. Although I've never played one I have to say that I don't really like the current Thunderbirds. I much prefer the chrome pups and the vintage reverse tuners on the Orville. I've only tried an Epiphone TB and it was not good at all so my experience with these is very limited. I've only played it at home through a tiny MarkBass combo but it sounds so good. I will be hoping to use the incoming bass with the band should it ever pull it's finger out and start playing again. Really looking forward to it's arrival and here's a pic of the Orville7 points

In stunning original condition and full working order. Flamed maple top. 35" Scale. 18 volt 3 band EQ. There are 2 small bruises on the top edge shoulder see picture, small mark on fretboard edge at 11th fret again see pic, otherwise she is unmarked with just general play swirls. She is a beauty and plays lovely. Original Peavey embossed hard case in excellent condition. £1095 Shipping UK £30 UK.6 points

Best two purchases for me, my GK Fusion 550 and my Spector Euro 4 LX. Both have been on my bucket list for a long time. Glad to finally tick them off. Also honourable mention for the NUX mighty plug pro, fantastic little gadget for rehearsing at home. Worst purchase has to go to some DR Hi beam strings. Purchased two packs and on both sets, the E string was totally dead after one rehearsal and one gig. I did contact DR to make them aware, and they said they send me a couple of 105 E strings, but nothing came of it. Maybe I’ll chase them up about that5 points

The point is, is she good looking enough to be a bass player? Irrespective of gender, it's a given that the bass player is, 99% of the time, the best looking in the band. If she wants to be in the club, then she needs the qualifications.5 points

Mods - isn’t the phrase “the smallish size of my board is a helpful guard from buying too many pedals” an instant ban?!5 points

Here it is...finally tried the TT5SL. I did a comparison of two fairly comparable bass guitars in all but one - weight. SL is incredibly light - only 2.7kg (5.95 lbs) UNREAL!5 points

Why would you have needed lifeboats on a ship that wasn't going to sink? Makes perfect sense. Plus, when they made a law that all boats had to have enough lifeboats for everyone, at least 1 boat, the eastland, rolled over under the weight of the lifeboats and 800 people died. Either way, this is playing the bass, however bad you are its unlikely anyone is going to die4 points

Not sure why there is an issue - just say 'sure' and leave it at that, IME these things never get round to happening. If anything it is just a problem for another day4 points

Will do. At next rehearsal, I'll ask her how's she's getting on with her bass, and what her playing intentions are. See what she says.4 points

Can she not just do it with her left hand?4 points

I'm going to do the gear abstinence thing for 2024 - got a good rig, a backup amp, a decent selection of basses and I'm not really into pedals beyond tuner/comp/overdrive so I think I'll cope.4 points

I still have these 3 Sandberg’s and they are all great to play but unfortunately for them I have a Bravewood P bass which steals the limelight… for the time being at least.3 points

I'm going to suggest that I take over some of our singer's duties in the band, namely, turning up late, not learning songs we're meant to, not lugging any gear around and never buying a drink.3 points

I'm not a huge fan of the standard Darkglass sound (although I've always been able to find a decent, usable tone in most of their pedals), but to compare them to "cheap guitar distortion" is a strange comment... have you spent any time playing them or is that based on Youtube clips?3 points

How true my friend...... In my teens in the early 70's l had a Bells musical instrument catalogue that l used to absolutely drool over every night in bed, constantly wishing l could afford a Selmer amp and cab. I did end up buying a Selmer Treble and Bass amp but l had to make my own cab with an 18 inch Goodmans speaker. I often look fondly back on those early days as a bassist. Now, over the years l have owned a wide variety of pro standard amps and cabs and lm fortunate enough to be able to buy what l want these days. But, l can't decide which gave me most pleasure...drooling and eventually saving month after month and the ultimate excitement of owning the item of my desire........or just going out and buying it....does that make sense?3 points

The artist (giggle) formerly known as S'manth, I've been a member for a while now. S'manth was a diminutive of my name (Samantha) that was picked for me in my old ukulele band (there was already another member called Sam) and it sorta stuck. When I left the band due to 'artistic differences' (Yeah, OK ... a falling out ... I was not told what I did but was encouraged to depart!) I stopped using S'manth. And thanks to the power of the BC gods, my new username here is SamIAm. Not to worry tho, I will still be posting the same insane nonsense I always have! 🤣 Sam x2 points

Current modular board for band practice/gigs. The drive board tends to be left at home for gigs with the current favourite dirt pedal brought on its own. The band still need persuading on the merits of the slicer. PSU money shot added.2 points

So true, a Fender Twin fed with a Telecaster bridge pickup is very clean and not at all musical. In fact, it is downright nasty but not in a good way (this is my opinion and is true, no argument will be accepted). Bill is also right that traditionally, speakers were given a warm or coloured sound (incorrectly called “voiced” by some) to give a certain sound. This can have more effect on your sound than the amp. Valve amps can get their sound/voice from several areas, the pre amp, the power amp and if using a valve rectifier, the power supply. It is a complex arrangement sonically, and not all vintage valve amps got it right. * At the South West Bass Bash in October we did an amp shoot-out and most people thought the all valve Ashdown and the vintage Trace heads sounded best, BUT the test was not blind so all our prejudices were in play. *I am not sure who said that there is no point in having a mind if you can't change it. After watching this, I changed my mind.2 points

I have a late entry that is going to compete for best purchase. Trace Elliot Transit B pedal. Just arrived today, had a 15 min play and I am excited - looks like some delicious tones to be had in the interplay between drive and gain. I remember when these came out thinking they would be a fab bit of kit but, at the time, I was using lightweight gear and full backline - one of these seemed like an expensive bit of overkill. Then I promptly forgot all about them until a couple of weeks ago when I was looking at a 'one pedal solution' just to rationalise what I use now I have gone down the FRFR route. This popped up in the search - with one for sale on this very forum! Have to say there was nothing wrong with the TC Spectradrive I've been using for the past couple of years but this TE jobbie is everything I need in one pedal - DI, EQ, drive, compressor AND a tuner, which is a huge bonus in my book. And it has green lights! Having been a Trace Elliot fan back in the days when my back used to work this feels like going home when I see them. Can't wait to try it out with the band, which is a couple of weeks hence. (Also new, Lekato WS-50 wireless).2 points
