Yes, should have posted them here first, but got caught up in trying to post PDF versions on Facebook (very complicated), so I put images instead on my Neil Murray bass guitarist FB page and got on with other things. I will rectify later, and I hope to add more transcriptions in coming weeks.16 points

Amp & Cab both sold now, thank you for your interest. It's an Ashdown ABM 600 evo iv, in perfect condition and has seen very little use - perhaps half a dozen gigs, probably fewer. The price of £400.00 includes the Roqsolid cover. I can courier the amp as I have the original box and protective foam it came with, but would prefer the buyer to collect or to meet somewhere mutually convenient.8 points

I'm on to the tax man, have no fear!! They have been alerted to his business/band names, home address etc. Being ex HMRC, I know how these things work. He's been very silly indeed. 🙂7 points

First a big box arrived after a long wait. I ordered it in October from a Swedish shop. I could have got it faster overseas, but I really wanted the 5 year warranty from the Swedish shop. I know Mesa had some issues previous with their gear... Under some supervision - kind of - from the Very Hairy King of the Basement I unpacked the amp... Then stacked upon the Genzler BA12-3 cabs for a test... /2krE48y]2021-01-12 - MESA 1[/url] by Roger Hedin, on Flickr Well, it sounded as I could expect. Not at all like my Spartan or Genzler amp, but more like a tube amp. It takes some tweaking to get things right, not just set and forget. I like it.5 points

I do 3D printing, and I have Hofners, so I might be able to come up with something. Give me a couple of days to see what kind of 3D file I can come up with... [Terminator] 'I'll be back' [/Terminator]5 points

Not sure how there is any legal threat around the thread but that is not my question. It seems to me it is important to keep this individual above the radar. With the specific thread locked, this drops down and eventually out. How can we make sure that our community is aware (and on the look-out) for him and his activities?3 points

Ok, so hands up who rushed straight in, plunking away and never bothered to read the manual...✋ I had no idea there even was a sub-harmonics function on this amp... 🙈 Instruction manuals are an eye opener...😂😂3 points

A bit more progress. I've made the scratchplate and headstock plate. The scratchplate still needs pickup openings and screw holes drilling, I'm just about the tidy up the neck pocket part of the plate so I can then fit the neck and put an E and G string on to then mark where the pickups will go. Then cut the openings in the plate, then finally drill the fixing holes. The holes in the the plate that came on it aren't as the original so I'll drill them in the right place as per the pictures posted earlier in the thread. I also made the plate fit the curves of the lower bout better as the one I had wasn't great. The headstock plate is certainly different. I honestly don't know if they all, or indeed any, had this. In some close up pictures it definitely looks like a separate plate covering the headstock. I've made one from the scratchplate material to see what it looks like and I really like it. Why don't more basses have this quirky little feature, kind of like a matching colour headstock but it matches the scratchplate. I've made it so it sits in a few mil from the edge so that you can still see the cream paint. The paint was applied a mil over the edge of the headstock to help with this. I don't even think I need to put any fixings in it as the tuner ferrules and string tree will hold it. I might put two screws in if needed, or maybe just a bit of double sided tape to hold it. I'll decide when the time comes. The pictures are a bit yellow looking, indoor lighting and phone camera. In the flesh it's not quite as gold, more of a brownish tinge. The next thing I need, which looks virtually impossible to find is a headstock badge. I could put a sticker on but it's just not the same. Does anyone know about 3D printing and what would be involved in getting one done? This is the badge, and you can also see the headstock plate.3 points

Short sighted comment. Tours etc are often organised at least 9-12 months in advance. There might be no tours in the next 9 months but that doesn't mean people aren't working towards things in 2022 and later....3 points

Hi all I've spent the best part of 3 hours thinning this topic out to what could be considered relevant and uncontroversial comments. To keep this topic readable, please can we just: Keep to reported facts and updates about case progression Don't feel that you have to comment on everyone else's post Cut out the banter - yes it's funny but it just bloats out the topic to make it harder to read and harder to find relevant information Thanks3 points

I have a 5 string SUB arriving tomorrow. It has a Seymour Duncan Alnico pickup and Nordstrand Pre installed and is already strung with D'Addario Chrome flats. I just fancied trying one. If I like it I will likely strip the paint off (all black) and go natural with a tort plate or get all blingy and go metal flake blue with a white plate like this https://www.talkbass.com/threads/mm-bongo-hh-5-marty-bell-refinish-gorgeous.1369256/3 points

I am posting this PDF here for anyone's reference/entertainment, my entire Messenger conversation with Mr Mason regarding Sans-gate. A few things to note: When I mentioned that he had reposted the ad is where I began to get suspicious. Some of you will note the same tracking proof screenshot that you may have received and the same obvious lies and excuses. Some of you may also think I was too polite. When, I began to be suspicious of his intentions and discovered this thread through the FB conversation; I opted for a polite, ignorant, persistent and non-confrontational approach. I hoped this would make it more likely to get my money back. Seems to have worked eventually. You may also notice I called him Mike twice, and Mark at another point. Maybe that's why he kept my money 🤣 You may also enjoy the moment when he agrees it is "unacceptable". Finally you surely will enjoy my genuinely accidental and ironic typo at the end of my penultimate message. ENJOY Mick Mason Chat.pdf3 points

Strangely right now the link to the Fender website page is down, but Andertons sent an email out with the "New for 2021" models that had a boxer bass tucked in the corner. Clicking through to the Anderton's website and yes, lots of nice new Fenders, but again, no Jazz Bass Special! Online, it looks like the basses will be FSR, thus being made in Japan, like the original 80's models. Only one colour at the moment, but boy there's no doubt these will be nice - hopefully as good as the originals (of which I have two of the 80's active versions). Here's the only outlet I can find with decent images: https://www.themusiczoo.com/products/fender-mij-boxer-series-precision-bass-limited-edition-sherwood-green-metallic2 points

Started playing bass 10 years ago, and have been in and out of covers bands for the past 8 years. My initial guess at the number of songs I've played is - errrm - 250. Well, it's taken me all afternoon, and the total is 519. Blimey.2 points

It's certainly 'doable', at 45mm. I'll set the machine up tomorrow, print one out and post a photo. If it's of good enough quality, would it need painting (I'd suggest white, with a gold top surface...)..? Once it's validated, it's no more bother doing two than one, so put your name down if you're happy with the what I come up with. Yes, but it won't fool anyone. Wotchit, matey; I've much stranger 'friends' that I can 'call upon'.2 points

I will look into it tomorrow and post the response. You will get the VAT back but I will check the mechanism.2 points

The thing is the changes need to be in place plenty of time before the Covid restrictions are lifted, so that everyone knows exactly what is required once gigging anywhere is possible again. Right now what I am being told is that given the current situation (pandemic restrictions not withstanding) it's simply too much effort to bring the support band as well as the headliner over from the UK. @Al Krow I admire your optimism, but right now I see a opportunity which we have spent the last 3 years working towards by delivering at the UK gigs in serious danger of slipping away.2 points

Please see my post above re. the economic point: any country that shuts down touring musicians whether it's the UK or the EU are simply shooting themselves in the foot. Saving lives is quite rightly the focus and priority for everyone, but I have every expectation that sense will prevail on this issue (as it already seems to be doing here from Lardy's comment).2 points

You need to read what a lot of quite successful artists are saying about it. The visa aspect is just one part of many other things that now need to be done. Plus it’s a separate visa for each country. As far as I’m concerned - and many others - we simply won’t be able to perform abroad anymore. The events we played at simply can’t afford the extra expenditure, or hassle. It’s an extremely selfish act, and to my mind at least, utterly pointless.2 points
-
No. I said that last year it was postponed (obviously due to the pandemic) and this year if it is possible to go ahead we'll probably get over-looked in favour of a band that doesn't need multiple visas and work permits as well as carnets for all our equipment and merchandise.2 points

Yes very short sighted. Our support tour already postponed from last year when it would still have been simply a question of sticking us and our gear in the van and heading across the channel to play the gigs that had been booked, looks increasingly like too much work to organise. The promoter has already hinted that even if it does go ahead at the end of this year it might be simpler for him to book an EU-based band as support, unless we can guarantee to have all the relevant paperwork in place for us to do it.2 points

Did they really have to play, 'In League With Satan', from 'Welcome To Hell' backwards to discover it might contain "messages" about The Devil. 😂😂2 points

Spaffer and his cronies have absolutely no interest in the performing arts or in doing anything to help. Just look at the whole Fatima ad campaign from a couple of months back.2 points

Lol! Give the poor guy a break. Didn't all the naysayers say a trade deal with the EU was impossible in 12 months as the EU took 7 years to agree one with Canada? Well he's got one. That's a pretty decent bit of negotiating in my books. And tbf he may have a couple of other things in his in-tray higher up on his to do list than sorting out visas for currently non-existent tours...2 points

I routinely use a ribbed or "squared" car mat under any class D (light) amp to help prevent it wandering around - or even falling off - the cab beneath. Works for me.2 points

I'm about 40 minutes from there. And I've got a slightly battered (by me, over the last 30odd years!) Custom - if you're in the area you can have a go! And just to make you really sick I bought it from Allbang and Strummit (RIP!) in Covent Garden for £500 in about 1989...2 points

A load that's too low in most cases will trigger protection circuitry that shuts the channel down, often resetting itself after the heat that caused it to shut down dissipates. If you don't have protection circuitry, rare these days, the amp could blow. You should not be using subs plus mains on the same channel . You should be using an electronic crossover and a separate amp for the subs, or one channel for the mains and one channel for the subs if the loads per channel aren't too low.2 points

That could be the understatement of the thread…! This was never going to stop established ‘bigger’ bands from touring. For bands selling out theatre level venues, it is just another touring expense. Of course, they need to keep this additional expense down, so they are much more likely to use EU based crews rather than British guys. There are already UK based production companies who will only employ British techs if they have dual passports. The real problem is for musos who rely on smaller scale live work in the EU to make a living; be it on cruise ships, sessions, holiday seasons, a band tour or promo work, or often freelancers playing multiple tours / odd dates with a number of acts throughout the year. Multiple work permits, carnets, different visa requirements, VAT issues for merch, etc all add cost to make it almost impossible for to work in the EU.2 points
