  1. As you can see from the bobbly lines, I still have the final sanding of the neck to do and will finish off the volute at the same time - but this is pretty much where I want it to be in general terms: Not quite as butt-ugly as its creator

  4. I do understand some of the frustration about other events being affected by this, but at the same time I am astonished almost every year at the short-sightedness of various venues and organisations - have they never heard of the World Cup, the European Championships, the Olympics? As soon as I open my new diary for the following year, the first entries are the major sporting events that I really do not want to compete with. I won't accept evening gigs if they're scheduled against, say, the Champions League final, or afternoon gigs if they're up against the British GP at Silverstone or the Men's Singles Final at Wimbledon. I mean, come on guys, this is hardly rocket science.

  6. I only went in for a strap for a new bass, an Ibanez SR100B-NT (that has yet to be delivered) and ended up walking out with a 5-er, an Ibanez SR1405E-GWH.

  9. probably just me, but producers messing about with the drum sound seems to age records, in the 80's it was the fashion to have enormous sounding snare drums high in the mix, sounds awful to me, now it seems to be clicky sounding kick drums, why can't they just record the drums how they're supposed to sound? some albums sound good because they do sound dated (mainly because they're recorded almost live) Elvis's sun sessions and the Beatles Please Please Me (mono) spring to mind

  13. Another one off the list - and one of my least favourite ones. Fitting the tuners. And fitting tuners shouldn't be as fiddly as it often seems to be. Also - a bit of a repetitive gripe - hmmm, I do like Schaller but... They make some REALLY nice products Their customer service, in my experience, is FIRST CLASS BUT they often don't seem to check how difficult it is to fit their own products. And they often don't provide the basics to allow the fitting to be done successfully and/or easily. The worst case of this was this piezo Hannes bridge. Flagship product. Total nightmare to fit. And I pretty much know what I'm doing! And I've got lots of standard and obscure tools. And I still needed to buy another specialist drill bit. Yes - a drill bit!!!! : Looks nice. Until you see the back: ..and then read the instructions of how to bolt it, and the instructions of how to string it, and the complete lack of any reference, whatsoever, of what you do with all the piezo wires and collector block - important in the context of the 10 or so precision drill holes (tenth mm precise at the guitar top and tenth mm precise at the guitar back after drilling through 30mm of wood or, trust me, it isn't going to fit) you've already drilled perilously close to each other and very perilously close to where the piezo wires are going to have to be. Anyway...I've taken a few more pills and calmed down a bit. And compared with a Hannes bridge, fitting a Schaller pegged tuner is, I suppose, a doddle. But is it asking too much - and surely it wouldn't be too much trouble - to pop a little piece of paper in the box with a full size drawing of the centres of the bush and two pegs to use as a template? Anyway, for what it's worth, this is what I do nowadays with pegged tuners if I don't have a template or the exact dimensional drawing to hand (and trust me - you can't measure the actual item accurately enough): I drill a hole for the bush in a thin piece of hardwood. I pop a drop of paint, or snowpake or wet sharpie ink on the pegs, pop the bush on, tighten until the pegs touch : I drill the peg holes on a drill press to ensure they are vertical and test fit the tuner. I then use this, with a bush pressed through the template and headstock hole, as the drill guide: Then, if everything is flat, square and vertical, the tuners should fit without having to 'ease' out the peg holes at all: Anyway, that's how I do it. And maybe it's just me that finds pegged tuners a PITA... Next job is carving that slightly ugly volute

  14. Unless you were really going for that brittle, crunchy sound. Who needs pedals? Just chuck a glass guitar down the stairs (with the guitarist if you want to flesh out that tone with some warmer notes).

  15. Guns n Roses Use your Illusions 1 and 2 Its all the Honky Tonk Piano Axl added. It has really dated those albums. Also Metallica justice for all that guitar sound with no bass, a lot of bands came after copying that awful caterwauling whiny guitar sound, just pitiful.

  16. Been there. Wandered into Sound Control Preston years ago whilst visiting a girlfriend, because I was bored and had nothing better to do. Ended up buying a Spector Reboot DLX - a truly stunning bass. It was so good I then sold my Status Stealth I 6 string.

  17. Not anything to do with the thread at all, but just a bit of info' - the 80's JBS (PJ-555) actually had a jazz neck. However the one that Duff McKagan ended up with as his career exploded interestingly had a Precision profile neck. It was this bass that lent it's specifications to the currently available MiM Duff McKagan Jazz Bass Special. I agree that this is way more of a Precision Bass Special.. or, you know.. a standard PJ without a pick guard lol...

  19. The cab that won the Essex cab shootout was a Bergantino with two Faital Pro PR300 drivers in it. Same as the Genz nxt Ebeneezer mentioned. So I'd expect it to sound very similar. £300 is a good deal. At the bash the votes (out of 25 in total) were: Bergantino CN212 - 9 Schroeder 212 - 8 EAD 2x12 - 5 (no longer manufactured) EBS Neo 212 - 2 Barefaced Super12T - 1

  20. OK, lots of lovely valve heft and tone! I'll not bore you with that you already know. I bought this about two years ago, and it had not been gigged or rehearsed - home use only and not a lot of that as I have a Bassman 135! There's a Roqsolid cover to go with it - I can't see any difference in the amp from new. It's a great amp to pop on top of a modern lightweight cab to hold it in place 🙂 Being big, heavy and fragile, In the first instance I am looking at collection - Manchester/Bolton/Wigan area. Thanks for looking, Paul.

  21. DECIDED TO PULL THIS OFF SALE. THANKS FOR ANY INTEREST SHOWN Ok, here is my homebuilt p bass. The licensed neck has 'the logo'. I bought as is, didn't add it, its under the lacquer but its a pattern neck not an original. (original maker stamp on heel). No inference of being original. rosewood board, no skunk stripe , p bass width. (If this is an issue I have an unlabelled neck I can swap out similar quality) Very nice sunburst body, not 100% perfect but looks great. Gotoh bridge. nuff said. Dimarzio dp122 pickups which are imho the best p bass pickups all round, great tone and monstrously good output. CTS post and cloth wiring. Sounds awesome, good weight. questions, etc get back to me..

  22. Hello, i sell my Bravewood bought directly to him. It was his personnal bass. I put a new Schaller bridge following the mounting instructions. You can install back the original bridge that I provided but one height screw is broken and the holes of the Schaller will be visibles ( see photos please ). True vintage Fender 70’ tuners and neck plate ( it’s noticed on the invoice that I provide ). Kent Armstrong pickup, CT’s pots and switchtcraft jack. The bass plays and sounds very well. I sell it because I move a lot of my gear and I prefer to keep my other lined fretless. Weight is 4,4 kgs. Excellent condition. Only the finish on the headstock is cracked with some missing varnish around the tuners ( see photos please ). Will be shipped in a hardcase ( used or new, it depends of what I have at the moment ) to UK/UE. Ask me for shipping quote for UE. For Uk it’s 65 € so I can include in the price. If there is no extra for UE then the price will be 900 € ( 800 £ ) including the shipping. Price is very reasonable so no offer please and no trade. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KGfh_e0MurfXdmjJnGd3OT0YSeXGPrRN

  23. For those of you like myself that like German instruments, i found ebay kleinanzeigen to be fertile hunting ground for Warwicks, Sandbergs and other boutique instruments such as Human Base for example. Technically its a classified ads page but if you ask a lot of sellers are more than willing to ship. Prices are very competitive.

  25. I got a reply from Nathan. As I suspected, the filter cutoff on the Minitaur is being modulated by the amplitude envelope of the bass guitar. I’ve asked him if he’d have a go just using the gate out to trigger the Minitaur’s internal envelopes instead to hear how that sounds, which he said he’d do if he gets time.

  29. He is a great player - just saw him with Barry Garlow... But at the end of the date he's a hired hand and tributing one of his idols. Totally different to writing the parts. Everest conquered during the jubilee was a huge milestone and celebrated internationally. Now, pretty much every decent climber does it at some point if they have the money. Collective learning is a trait that keeps us humans leaping ahead but it tends to downplay the achievement of the pioneer. I can't get too excited when an 8-year old does a decent job of 'Roundabout' on YouTube as I've had a virtuoso definitive version since 1971.

  30. Hi I’ve gone from an EBS TD650 and EBS Neoline 2x12 to the Darkglass and a Barefaced Super Twin, primarily because the EBS wouldn’t fit in the boot of my car. If it hadn’t been for that I’d have never have changed it, it just did what I wanted with minimum messing around with dials ! I would have kept the head, but I got so many very good offers for both the head and cab it was hard to turn down. I’ve yet to really get to grip with the EQ on the Darkglass and I’m currently using it with a cab that doesn’t really work for me whilst waiting for the Barefaced so it’s hard to judge currently. I got the VT to basically improve on the somewhat ropey amps available in the rehearsal rooms we use, but now I have a rig that fits in the car and it’s heavy it’s not really needed now. I’m very much at the traditional end of the tone scale so the Darkglass might seem an odd choice, but I’ve managed to get some impressively 70s metal sounds out of it so I’m quite happy with it really. Overpriced in my opinion but that’s another story !

  31. I've got a 5 string Dragonfly Fat J5 handmade japanese jazz bass. It was a similar price to your Bacchus. I imported it directly from Japan. It is solid Alder, matt finish with black scratchplate. 5 piece maple/walnut nech, flamed maple finger board, Gotoh hardware right through. It's set up really well, and tonally, it's all there, (active/passive, 3 band EQ, mid sweep.) If you follow this link This is the actual bass that I now own.

  32. An old one, but has an innovative approach to bass playing. J. Casady, Jorma Kaukonen, Spencer Dryden playing freely. Needs a little time to get going, but it's worth it ...

  33. I remember a run of TB2000s were done early 2000s, went up on eBay and sold for ridiculously low prices. I've upped the images I pulled from eBay at the time (amazingly sixteen years ago today): The EGC2000 is a close approximation/reinterpretation of the later model/redesign TB2000 (wide wings; the early TB2000s had narrower body shapes), albeit with a slotted EGC headstock. 35. Love the Six Nations and I agree it's time Georgia were given a chance. TBH I'd like to see it expanded to 8 nations , to include Romania. It's the stuffed shirts on the 6 nations committee that keep blocking the addition of new countries. The Six Nations is a bit like those snooty golf clubs that still won''t allow women in. Time to get rid of the old f@rts on the Six Nations executive. They'd probably argue that the likes of Georgia won't pull in the viewers. If they play as well as they did in the 2015 world cup they would. Ha, the mods might think we're digressing from bass chat!

  36. I always thought that one was over-rated compared to the 5000 Spirits / Layers of the Onion. It's always the one that gets cited as 'the classic' though. I'd take Little Cloud over a Very Cellular Song any day. I play 5000 spirits fairly often for someone who is largely into electronic music. I was about 1 when it was released as well so definitely not my era.

  38. The Rush albums from the late 80`s - early 90`s. Hold your fire, Roll the bones, Presto etc. I tried to play them the other day but the production is terrible and the lyrics that at the time were meaningful, just sound like tosh to me now. Still love the 70`s and early 80`s stuff.

  39. I have two jazz basses with Precision necks, both sound and play better than any others I've owned. Big necks make a difference to the sound and playability for me. Fretless below, no pics of the fretted I'm afraid but will take some and post later

I got a response about a feature request I sent to that address. Failing that, it might be worth contacting someone like Adam or Amos directly (usually first name in front of the @moogmusic.com).

  47. Seeing as my other Precision sold I'm going to be keeping this one so it's no longer for sale. What we have here is essentially a parts bass (TOP quality parts mind) with a handmade neck by a well-respected luthier. The fingerboard is brazilian rosewood, there are green luminlay inlays on the side of the neck (a great idea, wish all basses had these) and a MM-style spoke truss wheel making Precision neck tweaks a breeze. If you were speccing a P what would you have...!! Body is lightjtweigh alder, bridge is Kluson, pickups are Lindy Fralins. Tuners are Gotoh GB640. The Fralins (which I recall were 5 or 10% overwound) give a nice warmth and are an improvement on the Fender originals it was previously fitted with. The passive electronics use solderless connections. It's currenty fitted with a gold anodised pickguard but I also have a Tort I could swap over if you prefer. The finish is nitro and shows a few scuffs. This bass was always planned to be a player. Nut width is vintage so around 1.75". The neck radius is NOT vintage 7.25" but flatter. I can't remember what we chose... maybe 11". It's a neck that feels full but comfortable. It feels like a BASS which is what I wanted. I decided to not put any logo at all on the headstock but you can if you want... I will include a brand new Thomann hard case. Oh I nearly forgot... check out the Jaco neck plate.
