...or we could all use the same one, y'know, just to simplify things! I'm thinking something like this...9 points

Sadly no Shaggy on this date. I'm actually playing guitar and organ for this show, but when I asked the guitarists nobody knew who Sting was and then the keyboardists just started talking to me about modular euroracks and other nonsense so I thought I'd tell you fellas instead. Anyway, get your important bass-playing questions in now and I'll get you the lowdown on all those crucial details: Do tortoise pickguards really sound better? What HPF do you use to make your rig cut through in the back room of the Dog and Duck? Where did your accent go? How do you stop having tantric sex??8 points

[Price reduced to £3500 and open to offers] Hi After some careful deliberation i have decided to sell my lovely Mk1 (lined fretless). I purchased this secondhand circa 1995 and it was my primary guitar for several years - gigging and in and out of the studio. But, as I've gotten older (and kids have come along) it is been used less and less and deserves to go to someone who will give it the love and attention it deserves. I am new to this forum so not sure of all the etiquette around selling, but I live in North London and would be happy to entertain visits if someone lived locally and wanted to try it out. (I have a SWR Redhead from back in the day) As expected, it has a mahogany core but with elm facings. There are a few scuffs on the body, although the lacquer along the neck is intact. Two screws are missing from the back plate. (It was last set up about 18 months ago, so the strings are equally as old, but i have hardly had it out the case in that time.) Hard case included in the sale, but it is not the original one. When sold i would prefer it collected rather than shipped, but can negotiate that as necessary.6 points

I threw a little video together on bass tones from small to big. What do you think?6 points

I've got a bass case arriving today. Wife is going to her parents this afternoon for the night. Will it arrive whilst she's at home? She'll think there's a bass in it, of course. Part of me hopes it does arrive today but I'd prefer it to arrive whilst she's out so I can collect it from the Post Office at my convenience. Will keep you posted. Living on the edge.5 points

With that many basses i wouldn't even notice if my wife sold the occasional one4 points

On Sunday night 7th, we went to Brighton to see, Shawaddywaddy, Les Mckeon, David Essex and Suzi Quatro. Checked in to our hotel, got into the lift and lo and behold, Suzi was in the lift. I ended up carrying her suitcase as there were some stairs to negotiate. She seemed really nice. We had a laugh about an interview she did recently, it was about a fingers versus pick thing (The interviewer is a friend of mine and wanted some good questions relating to bass playing and so I told him to ask, fingers or pick. (I know she plays with her fingers)) Great show and saw her AGAIN in the lift in the morning. 'Great show' we said, 'Thanks' came the reply. A random guy in the lift said to her, were you at the Art Gunfunkal show last night', Suzi fixed him with a stare to rival my wife and said, 'Do I really look like Art Gunfunkal' The bloke was flummoxed and just stared right through her. We laughed all the way to her tour bus. We bid farewell, So to sum up, is she really a lift attendant or rock star (or both)4 points

I'm astonished that nobody has so far mentioned shoes. Usually in new bass v. wife situations, shoes and handbags get mentioned almost immediately. Maybe there is a glimmer of hope for Basschat's collective and their long-suffering other halves? Incidentally, no, I'm not a great buyer of shoes. Warwicks, yes. Photo and recording equipment, yes. D'Addario goodies, yes.4 points

Well, I thought this day would never come, but it did, and pretty quick! I’m selling my custom Greenboy Fearless F112, made for me by TrickyAudio last year. I’ve moved to Helix & in ear monitoring and I’m pretty happy with it, so this has been sat in a corner for some time now, having absolutely no use, which is a shame. It has a sexy custom colour and grill. And I’ll also through in a proprietary GB grill, in a shocking yellow (one can have more than one outfit, right?). Also included is a Roqsolid cover. <These now sold separately. All this puts the cost up to £900, and I’m letting it go for £680 NEW PRICE £625 CAB ONLY (cover and extra grill now sold), which I believe is a bargain for this cabinet in a condition that is as the same as the day I received it (absolutely no marks). I would prefer collection or meet up somewhere in between (message me, I may be in the mood for a couple hours drive). Later on I may consider shipping (adds cost). I may ship it, through me a message! If you don’t know what can this do, let Ed Friedland do the work for me: Some technical details: http://greenboy.us/cabs/view.php?model=FEARLESS F1123 points

I'll be glad when this is sorted out. The small Rotosound/Elixir etc.type banners at the top of the screen were fine but I don't like the new system - I'm getting ads popping up every time I open a new topic / change forums etc.. In some cases taking up the whole screen. Infuriating and very annoying Chris3 points

I have no need of another gig bag. I had clicked on it and was ready to buy. Please stop doing this stuff to me.3 points

I offer to drive everyone to the gig for nothing. Then when we get there I offer to drive them home for £200 each. Works for me.3 points

Another great day! I don't want to repeat what others have said already numerous times, but thank you so much for a great event! Yes, it can get loud. Yes, one can barely hear himself. No, I didn't get the time to try half the gear I planned. No, I didn't had the chance to meet everyone. But, boy the food... The noise (in a good way now - am I crazy? 🤪)... The chatting... The meeting the ones I met... The lovely basses all around the room! Can't wait for next years!!!! PS: my Greenboy F112 is effectively now for sale! Maybe I'll get a Basschat 12", which is a monstrous cab!3 points

Here she is with her sister. It just occurred to me that I'm basically Freddie Washington now (he plays a Smith and P bass). Need a new passport soon anyway so it'll basically be easier.3 points

Why not hide the offending article behind a stash of jazz mags under a bed or in a cupboard? This acts as a good distraction which might be more easily explained away than shelling out £1 - 2k on a lump of wood with strings 😊3 points

I was in 735A heaven on Saturday night. We played a large hall for a group of dance classes who wanted to strut their stuff to a live band. There was even a glitterball! I played passive all night, blues and blues rock stuff mostly, the RM800/Super Twin were set up to sound very SVT/fridge-like, and despite the size of the hall the RM volume was only at around 5%, as you can probably see if you zoom in. I love my 735 with Chromes, it is such a well-designed instrument and sounds lovely. I rarely use the active side when playing live as I can get everything I need out of the amp setup. It also makes it a lot easier to adjust tones with minimal fuss, just a half knob to turn! No fire extinguisher needed that night, thankfully!3 points

Another great bash. Rather enjoyed myself. Thanks and kudos for all the hard work organising and making food! See you all next year3 points

Once the ads are fixed there won’t be any pop ups and the ads will be less than they were before, so give us a chance!3 points

My old trout has never given me a hard time about my GAS nor has she ever exhibited the slightest interest in instruments, amps, peripherals or popular music. Which is why I was incredibly spooked by events that took place in a guitar shop a few years ago. I was trying out a couple of small valve guitar combos using one of the shop's guitars when she suddenly appeared at my shoulder as if instantaneously tele-ported there (it's one of her little ways). 'H'mm,' she said, looking at the guitar in my hands. 'It's a Telecaster but it's not a Fender, is it? High end job? Tom Anderson, maybe?' 'That's right' I replied, entirely unnerved by her keen eye. 'Sounds different to a normal Tele,' she mused. 'Chambered body?' 'How d'ye know that?' 'No f-holes. Anyway, if you bought it you'd have to change those locking tuners. You don't get on with locking tuners.' At this point the typically sniffy shop boy's staring at her with eyes like saucers and I'm so proud of her In the car on the way home I asked her if she'd been possessed by another consciousness, possibly that of Mr George Gruhn. 'Don't be silly', she said. 'It's not that I'm interested but you're always talking about this stuff and I suppose it just seeps in after a while'.3 points

Not possible to test one in your local PMT? Appreciate it won’t be at gig levels etc but it should give you the flavour... Also if you’re anywhere near our HQ in Essex and fancy a trip out you can blast one as loud as you want for as long as you like.3 points

I like to imagine a Stella Street-style parallel universe where Mick is in his kitchen carefully ironing his jim-jams shouting camp abuse at the radio as (Si Si) Je Suis un Rock Star wafts across the airwaves... (I actually own a copy of that single!)2 points

When Sting performs with Shaggy do they just stick to material from the album they did together or do songs like 'Don't stand so Close to Me' and 'Fields of Gold' get a dance hall rap section added? Does Sting get a verse on 'Mr Boombastic'?2 points

I tell you what, if you tried one of Jabba's extraordinary little basses (seen here modelled by @Pea Turgh), your Wingbass would be gathering dust in no time. They really are the most amazing things and I am seriously tempted.2 points

Just thought I’d share with you guys i bought a BQ500 couple of months ago to use as a back up and as a mini rig for where I can’t lug around the big amp. my main rig is an Ampeg SVT and 610 barefaced cab. As my mini rig I’ve got the bq500 paired with a barefaced super compact 1x12. I run the amp flat and have a VT bass pedal that I use to get a remarkably close tone to my normal rig. (I a/b’d them with a lien selector until they were similar) obviously the SVT is amazing but for the gigs where it won’t fit in the car with all the other stuff, where there’s stairs or even just practices. It is amazing and it small enough to fit in my backpack of stuff!2 points

Two things occur to me from the video. Very little slap. In fact, thinking back to the day itself, there was hardly any going on at all. If only the LBGS was so tasteful! Every time I appear in shot, I'm carrying yet another cup of coffee. I'm starting to think I might actually have the caffeine addiction I've been joking about for years..!2 points

Once you get near my collection size (i.e. 72 basses) the wife doesn't notice a new one coming in or old one going anyway... Not that I believe I need to ask permission. As long as all bills/household costs etc are covered, what I do with my money is my business.2 points

I did this back in 1997. The bass part is bass guitar going through a Peavey Bassfex multi-effects unit and a Peavey Spectrum Filter:2 points

I was very impressed by my brother's Ukelele Bass. I made this monstrosity in the 80s from an old bed - can't see it inspiring anyone's GAS! The ultimate SSS bass?2 points

I actually bought the 735 slightly used at a great price on 7th April 2018, so it is a year with me. I had not realised it was its birthday the other day! Before that I had a 425X and a 424X, both which had to be moved on to other eager BC'ers. Both were widely gigged and had me BB-hooked. The 735 is a real step up from the 42*, such a full and controllable sound. I think it has taken these 365 days to really get to know the 735 and what it can do. Of course I have been through the ritual of trying all types of string, from black tapewounds (grounding issues!), Fat Beams (far too lively for my needs!), La Bella flats (lovely and deep, maybe a bit too thumpy) and finally settling on Chromes which seem to give the best of all worlds for what we play. I cannot imagine playing anything else. Who wants a Fender when you can have a 735?! And the B-string is perfect. Shapes up the neck make for very relaxed playing, with no tonal concerns.2 points

This is what it's all about. What a fantastic looking bash. Tremendous effort organising it and well done to all those who went along to make it a huge success. I'm glad everyone is coming round to the idea of mini scale basses They're the sort of thing you don't think you'll need but once you have you'll use all the time. So handy to have around the house!2 points

I think your only option is to take it on the chin and move the offending article on. How much d'you think you'd get for her ?2 points

All the comic replies aside, have to say this post puzzles me. I wondered if it was tongue in cheek but it appears not. So you are skint but bought a new bass, leaving you more skint? Did not having the bass mean you weren't able to gig and earn money? I'm not getting that impression. But in any case, for me honesty and trust are two of the most important things in a relationship and you clearly have broken both of these with an exceptionally selfish act. Anything that happens as a result of it is your own fault.2 points

My wife used to try on the old, "I've had that dress in the wardrobe for years, it's just that I've never worn it" trick! I'll usually tell my wife if there is a bass that I'm interested in. I'll list all the reasons why this new bass would be better than what I've got. She doesn't understand a word, listens like she does and usually ends by telling me, "If you think it's that good, get it". Mostly, by the time I've finished talking through all the points I've decided to keep the old one.2 points
