...Just a bit of fun. Descriptions seen in ads that maybe true but are faintly ridiculous. (I'm not pleading innocence here by the way) I'll start with... 1. Plays like butter (often spelt buttah) 2. Never been gigged (never really seen the point of that one) 3. All original (so what if it's as good a bass you're telling me it is) 4. Bought it new for £1300 a week ago. (Take it back to the shop) 5.?2 points

Another idea would be to set up a custom search of the kind of content that does interest you, then save it as a custom stream and make it your homepage. There are no sidebars on those pages.2 points

@BigRedX I will probably look at creating a lightweight theme in the coming weeks. There seems to be some demand for it, part of the problem is some people want everything on the screen, others want a minimal amount and it's not easy to cater for both2 points

Was Andy Irvine the originator of the reference to butter? I know he always claimed it aplied to every Warwick he picked up. The other one I don't get is "plays itself".2 points

Well done. Feels great to have a like button on a post so people can react without having to post a comment. Good stuff2 points

Had a load of really good suggestions for semi hollow or hollow basses to fill a hole (ha!) I've had for a while. Checked them all out, and was left feeling pretty meh. The main issues were: - Short scale (I want 34") - Silly slim nut width (I like 45mm) - Odd pickup combos (not sure I have use for a neck mudbucker) - Availability (as in I'd need to find one used and they are as rare as rocking horse droppin's) So, I dropped my fave secret squirrel parts maker a message on the off chance. And he does do semi-hollow. He sent me this teaser: So an order spec went in double quick, given my second PJ build is currently on hiatus whilst I get some lacquer checking on it! What are we looking at then? - 51 P style body (slab) chambered (as above) - f-hole - No pickguard - going with vol, tone and jack on the front and that's it - Trad 51 P style pickup rout - I will probably get a split coil pickup custom wound for it - vintage output to emphasise the semi-hollow body tone - Traditional bridge - Swamp ash body and cap - Maple neck, Rosewood board - 45mm nut, slim front to back - Tele style headstock - Ultralight tuners Should be with me in time for Christmas, so something to do over the hols Will update as I go, but in the meantime I need to gather parts and decide how to finish it.1 point

I don't think the cut off frequency should be an issue for a monitor. All the important information about timing etc is carried by the mids and so long as the monitor carries everything above 120Hz I think that'd be fine. In any case the deep bass from your cab is Omni directional so the drummer would hear that. The problem is the speaker handling a lot of bass without distorting. You could use a filter but that makes it complex which won't be the solution you are looking for. One solution did pop up though. DJKit were offering the Wharfedale Titan 8 for little money this week, that's the passive but it occurred to me that the active one at around £180 would maybe do what you want, and it is stand mounted. 119dB spec so it'd drown out the drums if needed and the speakers are electronically protected from mis-use http://www.wharfedalepro.com/product-detail.php?pid=31 point

@Les I like this way of getting your attention in a thread without quoting you.1 point

On the same subject - can you retrospectively react to posts from pre-new-site-changeover? If so, thanks a bunch admins. I'm now going to have to go back through all the posts on this site and like the ones I liked at the time but couldn't react to them. There goes my week. Great.1 point

I liked one of your posts When you get a positive reaction to a post your reputation goes up, they do have the option of negative reactions but that didn't really seem in the BC spirit!1 point

Learn the basic chord structure of the song first with intro, verse, chorus etc then put in some passing notes and the twiddly bits and you will get the song up and running more quickly than a linear note for note approach. When you get to a live performance the drummer will increase the speed by 20% and all the fancy bits that you practiced will go out the window anyway.1 point

Pleased to be back at last, after trying all the usual stuff and my son trying all he knows, couldn't get at all until about 10 minutes ago. It'll take me a while to find my way around I'm sure Cheerz, John1 point

The age old problem is that these things are subjective. Also change is hard, change management is even harder. My subjective opinion is that the design is cleaner, clearer and easier to read1 point

I get on much better with the new layout - the display is cleaner and the fonts seems to be much easier on the eye, though that could be my age! I'm happy with less clutter meaning fewer threads per page but everyone is different I guess.1 point

Yes that's right, we're on it - sorry. Should be alright soon once the hamsters are back in their wheel!1 point

Yep, looks the nuts, well done to all involved. I know exactly how bottom clenching a system migration can be!1 point

Yes, I used to do that previously using the desk top version instead of the mobile version. Worked a treat, as it does now.1 point

And this is maybe the second funniest (on this thread anyway!) "I also have a TKS H115 that I am equally happy with, but it is a bit more bulky. If I had to keep one and move the other on, it would be the Barefaced cab that stayed." ...Conan Conan, seriously GLWTS!1 point
@Happy Jack - not come across a Crazy 8, can you send me a link please?
http://www.barryaudiodesign.com/crazy-8s.html I believe that a number of firms manufacture these, presumably with small variations? Fascinating cabs. They have astonishing presence and reproduction for a very limited area ... they will NOT project to the back of a pub or drown out your drummer, but they make my DB sound exactly like itself only much louder. In a band backline + PA support environment, this is hard to beat.1 point
