Stub Mandrel Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 For many years I managed with just one strap and swapped it areound -after all you can only use one at a time. I've just done a count and I now appear to have 10 guitar/bass straps, two mandolin (one's technically a ukelele) straps, one coming in the post and I suspect a few others lurking elsewhere. I realise I have actually put some effort into matching strap with instrument. I recently got two nice Fender straps courtesy of a BC member, so I downgraded the manky one on my Fender Performer to my Squier Tele and gave the new ones to the Performer and Squier Jag. Despite this I still feel sorely tempted to do some more upgrades. So fess up. How many instrument straps do you have 😈 Quote
Baxlin Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) Just the two, one for each bass! First a plain black leather, with straplocks, the other, a leather one I’ve had for around 50 years which I use on the EB3. Always been a fan of Joe Brown, so the latter is adorned with small horse brasses, which I copied from JB's on his 335 Gibson back in the day. The unfortunate bit is that to fix the brasses on, the strap ceased to be adjustable, so in recent years I’ve had to rivet an extension onto it....... Edited March 11, 2019 by Baxlin 1 Quote
Dem Jolie-blues Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Mine are colour matched too, if if they don't match enough, I run the edge of the strap through the sewing machine with a colured thread to make them match more, it's sad, I know ... 1 1 Quote
bassfan Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) I’m colour matched 😃 Well kind of... I have black straps for the 2 with carbon necks, white for the sonic blue jazz, and relic looking off white for the relic’d bass, more accessorised than colour matched. 😂 Edited March 11, 2019 by bassfan 1 Quote
Stylon Pilson Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) I have a plain black Comfort Strapp which is basically the only one that gets regular use, the other 3 are just for backups. S.P. Edited March 11, 2019 by Stylon Pilson 2 Quote
franzbassist Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) One for each bass, coloured to match, width appropriate to weight, and all slightly different lengths to suit the ergonomics of each instrument. Edited March 11, 2019 by franzbassist 5 Quote
BigRedX Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I have one strap for every guitar or bass that use regularly, each one adjusted for length so that each bass hangs at the correct height (not always the same height depending on how I play it). Most are black, but I have a red one for the Burns Barracuda. 2 Quote
thodrik Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I have 4, all the same brand and type (black vaguely long Levy). Main 'gigging' bass (Sadowsky) has had a strap on semi-permanently for years thanks to my high-tech strap lock system of the rubber tip thingies you get from bottles of Grolsch. The others are swapped depending on what ones I am using as part of my rehearsal/jamming/recording routine. Basically I make sure that I have a strap for any bass I am using regularly, plus the back up to that main bass. Two bands = the need for four straps. Quote
Happy Jack Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I have more guitar straps than the average High Street music store. Does that help at all? 1 3 Quote
oldslapper Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 None. I sit down on stage, in front of my music stand. 2 Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted March 11, 2019 Author Posted March 11, 2019 It's so sad... I made a spreadsheet... now angsting about adding the banjo ukelele which hasn't got a strap... 2 1 2 Quote
Shambo Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) It's cheaper than buying a bass Edited March 11, 2019 by Shambo Quote
tauzero Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I've got about half a dozen. One suede-backed one for the 10-string, to solve the neck dive, another leather one with bits of metal on it, a couple with dragons on them, one black one with red patterns for the Esh Poseidon (the odd shape means that one of the straplocks has to be back to front), and one which is the same pattern as the bassist in the band I'm in a tribute for always wears. joeystrange Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I have three. One in each of the hard cases I use for gigging and another in the soft case I use for rehearsals. Quote
Paddy515 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Four basses, four straps - all straplocked and colour co-ordinated to the body colours!!! 1 Quote
Hobbayne Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I have been using my Beatles Revolver guitar strap for the best part of 8 years. It sadly died a death at the last band practice when the leather round the strap hole gave out. I would get another but the price seems to have rocketed. 😫 https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/233157052802?chn=ps 1 Quote
TheGreek Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I thought it was just me...pheeew. Answer: far too many...one for each bass and a few to spare 1 Quote

I wish I could get away with sitting down for the whole gig. I actually have 3 😁 1 fat black leather for fretted P 1 less fat but sturdy brown suede for the fretless 1 skinny cream leather for the acoustic 6 string. 1 Quote
ead Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 If you have two straps which box do you tick, 1-2 or 2-5? 1 Quote
BreadBin Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I have 9, not enough. I like a coordinated strap too 1 Quote
Lozz196 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 5 - one for each bass plus my guitar. All the same too, Jim Dunlop Double D Black DD4009BK. Good enough for Duff, good enough for me. Quote
Steve_M Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 6 Basses, 5 straps (poor old Kala U Bass - always the bridesmaid :P). Quote
Skybone Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Certainly makes you think... and then realise you have more than one for each instrument. Oops. :D Quote
