  1. There’s no right or wrong answer and it really doesn’t matter. Some people may have a reason for standing one side or the other but neither is better than the other.
  2. My ‘clean’ sound varies depending on what I’m doing but it always has a bit of dirt so it’s never super clean. It sometimes amazes me how just much dirt you can get away with and still sound clean in the mix.
  3. I’m considering getting a custom bass built. Only a single Jaguar but nowhere does a production model that I like. I came across Guitar & Bass Build UK but I don’t know much about them. Does anyone have experience with them and their builds? Alternatively are there any other builders I should be looking at?
  4. Tell them they can pay in money or teeth. Let them decide.
  5. Drummer in my old band quit on three or four separate occasions. We (eventually) had him back each time because he was our friend and an incredible drummer. Yes we did trust him. To the point where we joked about him quitting again. I guess it depends how well you know them and how good they are?
  6. Isn’t the point of the Custom Shop that the guitars are custom made to the buyer’s own specification? In that case why do they have pre-built models that they sell? Seems backwards to me.
  7. Do people really put masking tape behind the bridge when changing strings?!
  8. Are you talking about the bass or the whiskey barrel sticking out of the kick drum head?
  9. I’ll soon be getting a set of (most likely) Ultimate Ears UE-6 Pro after Paul was very highly recommended by two of my band members.
  10. Personally it wouldn’t bother me as long as it was just cosmetic and didn’t affect playability. I’ve had new basses where some paint has chipped off during transit and not sent them back. I did ask for some money off though, which I got. But that’s just me because I’m not really bothered by things like that. But I also understand that most people would expect a brand new item to be perfect and would ask for a replacement if there were any issues at all.
  11. I’ve been looking at these recently. Just started using a Quad Cortex so I was considering getting rid of my head and using one of these to power a cab instead. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts after gigging it. Or from anyone else who has one.
  12. Fender sell them now. I also found that they have bottles with the Grolsch type lids in the kitchen section of IKEA. You may sometimes find that a couple seals have ‘fallen off’ the bottles.
  13. Only used two or three times. Still in great condition. Selling as I bought a Quad Cortex and needed something else to power it. Comes with all cables and screws for fixing to a pedalboard. Happy to post.
  14. I’m not sure. My sound has changed a fair bit over the years but it’s always loud and dirty. People often tell me they can always tell when I’ve played on something and the only constant over the whole time is a Precision and SansAmp BDDI, so that, I guess?
  15. Never exactly regretted buying anything but I have bought a few things that I’ve then sold fairly quickly as they turned out they weren’t quite what I wanted. Just a couple of pedals, mostly, which I lost money on but with them being relatively cheap I don’t regret losing a bit of money. If it was expensive gear I may have felt differently.
  16. I’ve always thought one of the best things about being a musician in Nottingham is where we are in the country. As you said we can get pretty much anywhere in England and Wales within 4 hours at most. Speaking of Nottingham we seemed to go through a spate of losing long-established venues at one point and I remember things looking fairly dire for a while. It seemed that we only had DHP owned venues for a few years. But the last few years it seems that a good handful of new venues have opened and seem to be doing well. As far as I can remember (the last 20 years or so) Nottingham has had a fairly strong and vibrant music scene, it’s just always seemed strange to me that we produce very few big artists.
  17. I have friends in NYC who all say there’s almost nowhere to play now, especially for originals bands. There’s the odd bar gig for cover bands but in terms of actual music venues there are very few left. They first told me this over 15 years ago and I believe they’ve just gotten fewer and fewer since. Even to the point where younger bands will ask them for advice and their advice is always ‘Get out of the city.’
  18. It seems to be a common opinion with musicians of an older generation that ‘everything that isn’t what I liked/played 50-70 years ago is rubbish.’ Hip hop has had far more impact on music in the last 40 years than the Stones have.
  19. Never say never. I have friends who’ve got big gigs in their 40s and 50s so there’s always time. Of course you might not be in the young, hot new radio band in your 50s but you can still join an established band and make a living.
  20. Is there a reason you need separate signals for ears and FOH? Do you purposely want it to sound different in your ears than it does in the house? One of my bands is on IEMs and we send the same signal to both. That would be a simpler setup and you wouldn’t have to worry about phase issues.
  21. Me too. Years ago I told myself I was going to learn ti play left-handed as a challenge to myself. In the end it seemed like too much effort.
  22. I hate that my old Ampeg rig weighed more than the sun.
  23. A lot of these seem to be guitarists who have picked up a bass for whatever reason. If we’re talking really unexpected bass players perhaps we should be looking outside f music…
  24. Squier Vintage Modified Jazz in Olympic White. Only used home home practice, never left the house. Has a couple of small chips in the finish that were there when the bass arrived but in great condition other than that. Would prefer collection but could travel within a reasonable distance.
