  1. On BBC4 right now: Classic Albums, Tears For Fears 'Songs From The Big Chair'. Ohhhh YES.

I recently dug this album out from the depths of our CD collection and gave it a play. I had forgotten just how good it is.

Watched that it was excellent.  Their ex manager ran off with money, he used to live near me.  Eventually got locked up for fraud and died about two years ago!  Just thought I would give an update!

  2. Great quote this morning from Mark Hamill:
"That debate was the worst thing I've ever seen, and I was in the Star Wars Holiday Special."

Never seen this before but I'm enjoying it so far

  3. DR Black Beauties have arrived and are now on the SkaJazz. OHMYGODTHEYLOOKAMAZING. Pics later. 😎

As an aside... superb service from Lord Of The Strings. I'll definitely be using them again.

  4. Hidden gems on BBC Sounds #1: 'J Kingston Platt', a series of monologues by the brilliant Peter Jones. Gently hilarious.

Thanks for the tip! Was just reading up on him, I only new him as the voice of the Hitchiker's Guide. 'In all directions' sounds very promising too!

  5. High winds 1, runner bean plants nil. 😠

  6. When you hear your son and his fiancée debating/arguing over whether the car they just heard was a Lamborghini Huracán or Gallardo, you know he's got a keeper

Yep, they're well suited in that respect. Every xmas and birthday present they get each other is a driving experience of some sort. His one this year was a day in a Cobra. He's now totally addicted to the noise of a big-block V8.

There are far worse things to get addicted to. Can be an expensive hobby tho.

  7. Nice start to the day today. Came downstairs to find a very tired looking white-tailed bumblebee stumbling about on the hall floor. I recalled reading something about bees responding well to a bit of energy and hydration, so i mixed a tiny bit of sugar in a splash of water on the end of a teaspoon, and held it down in front of the bee. It found it and immediately started to drink, I could see its tongue lapping it up. After slurping for a couple of minutes it stopped and visibly began to revive, so I took it outside. It headed straight for some flowers and started doing what bees do, looking a lot healthier. My feelgood moment for the day. :)

Well done you. Restores my faith in humanity reading things like that. Unlike the little shyte I saw in the park. He was astride his bike with another kid watching and was bouncing his front wheel up and down on the path. As I rounded the corner, his mate remonstrated with him to which he shouted ‘I don’t care, I hate them’ and on seeing me they both scarpered. When I stopped where they had been there were pieces of earthworms squidged all over the path. His parents would be sooo proud if they knew 🤬. Not little kids either. Probably 10yrs if not more. Makes my blood boil. Well, boil more than it is already today 🥵.

On reading further, apparently feeding sugary water to exhausted bees is ok providing you only do it once and in a very small quantity. It certainly seemed to perk this fella up though.

  8. 10 years today. Times flies but memories remain. Still much missed, you big daft softy. 💙

  9. New ear cushions and headband fitted to my trusty Sennheiser HD280 pros... good for another 20 years now, I reckon! :D

Hi Rich, I have the same headphones and although the ear cushions and headband on mine are still ok I'm curious to know more regarding their replacement (for future reference). :)

      Rich

      Hi,

Here's what mine look like now. I bought both the ear cushions and the headband cover off fleaBay for not very much at all.
The cushions went on with a minimal amount of swearing -- after destroying the old ones to take them off, the new ones have to be stretched so that the retaining strip slips into a small gap round the outside. Easier done than explained, actually :D
The headband cover really is a knitted woollen thing held on with poppers... looks like something your nan might make but it's really very comfortable, especially when you're a bit short of thatch up top like I am

      Stingray5

Hehe, thanks for that. Yeah, I see what you mean about the granny-knitted headband but have to say it looks good and I can imagine they would be much more comfortable now. Good job! :)

  10. A chance look at a frankenfender bass farcebook group now has me toying with the idea of making a 30" scale bass from a short scale neck and a Tele guitar body...

I owned a Fender Musicmaster bass years ago and got rid of it after about 3 years, I got it for £75 which admittedly was a bargain but the bass itself was dreadful, it must have weighed about 14ibs, had one of those dreadful two saddle bridges, the cheapest pickguard and the only way i can think of describing the tone is "murky" it had very little high end and strangely not much low end but it seemed to have a lot of the muddier mid frequencies, the tone control did almost nothing.  Now on Ebay there are Musicmasters going for nearly 1.5k !!! Insane amount of money when you can get a Mexican Mustang bass which is a much better bass for under £600

      ^^^ This.

I'm starting week 5 of 'furlough' - use the time do do things for you and your family (this does not include murdering them! :D).

You may never get another chance like this. :)

Sorry to hear the Rich. I'm hoping it's not too inconvenient for you or leaves you financially out of pocket.

I hope too that you're able to use the time to do things you'd been wanting to do for a while.

  13. Another gig bites the dust, and this one hurts... the One Love Festival in Kent, in August. Absolutely gutted. I was really looking forward to this one.

      Old Horse Murphy

I feel your pain Rich, we've lost three festivals too. A brand new band for me as well.

I would say it gives me longer to learn the set but in reality, all it does is delay the inevitable last minute cramming and busking to a bit later in the year.

  14. Another lockdown tweak done... added a HF tweeter and crossover to my wee Behringer 60w 1x12 rehearsal combo. Mud, begone! :D

  15. Just ordered a new bench vice and a bunch of new HSS bits. Barely managed to resist the temptation to splash out on a pillar drill. Oh, the excitement of isolation.

New bits but no means of rotating them and thrusting them into virgin territory whilst remaining absolutely perpendicular and plumb?

It's as if Ian Dury had just called the LP "...and panties."!

It's true that your present interlocutor was highly desirous of such a reliable means of ensuring accuracy within the vertical plane in the creation of circular orifices in various materials; however, such an apparatus proved to be fiscally beyond my immediate wherewithal.

Sorry, no TLRTs left.  I owe you one.

      PS:  Sorted.

  16. Ever had one of those days when it's only mid-morning, and already you just want to climb into bed, pull the duvet over your head and pretend it never f***ing happened? :( :(

I feel for you sleep-deprived guys. I well remember those days.

Personally I'm not tired (well, no more than usual). It's just been a total c*** of a day from the word go.

In my case it's not that I'm deprived.  I get 'nuff winks through the course of the 24hr clock.  It's just not all joined up.  If I had to keep a job going too I'd be stuffed.

      From the manual:

      Quote
When driving the power amp hard, the result is increased heft and girth while maintaining the dynamics and articulation of individual notes.

That's where I've been going wrong.  I've been going for heft when I should have been paying more attention to my girth!

  19. NEPD... my new custom moulded earplugs have arrived, courtesy of the Musicians' Hearing Health Scheme. 👍👂👂👂

I've enjoyed hanging out in the marketplace (stop tittering Teebs) for the object of my desire too.  Both times I have been lucky to get the item when it turns up.  It helps that I am never off this forum of course.
