How spectacularly can you fall off this years gear abstinence thread?

Right, there's a thread running currently which celebrates gear abstinence during 2020. I joined up and lasted a couple of weeks before I broke down and bought something. Lockdown has compounded the issue and I've accumulated more this year than ever (admittedly I've sold a bunch of stuff too which helps me justify it at least in my mind!)

So here's a thread to help you confess your sins... I want to know what you've picked up since January 1st. You're free to add subsequent acquisitions through the year so don't hold back 😂

I'll start below....

Vowing to go minimalist I got rid of 4 basses and 2 electric guitars last year which left me with just two basses and 2 electrics but recently concluded this clearly isn't enough. Spent last tuesday scouring music shops in Brizzle trying 5 stringers and congratulated myself deciding they're not for me and coming away empty handed. The next day I was bimbling around Dursley and chanced upon Intersound which I never knew of. Went in there and 30 mins later came out with a Cort Action Deluxe AS. Now the floodgates are open and I know I won't be able to resist further temptation😊

Again??!

Yep. 😳 What's the definition of an idiot? Someone who doers the same thing over and over again and expects a different result  :D

I just don't need it for what I suspect will be my musical life after Covid restrictions disappear; the band I bought it for has decided to go ampless onstage so I couldn't see it getting much use in my other musical outlets despite it being my favourite amp. @silverfoxnik now has it and it'll get the use it deserves :) I've still got my Little Bastard and that combined wit the OriginAL pedal is plenty for everything I can envisage in the future. Plus the sale of it gave me the funds to put the deposit on the ACG....

Good idea for a thread @Mudpup, a 'sinners confessional' if you will...

I expect there'll be a few of us playing as @Mertonsaid above...

I'm just wondering what these words mean though:

'gear abstinence'

Surely that's an oxymoron? 😁

Compared to previous years I'm not doing bad.

- Two straps (I only had 2 between 6 basses);

- Schaller straplocks (technically not bass gear as I fitted them to my Les Paul)

- GCI Bass Brutalist overdrive - my guitar tech bought the kit and wanted to know if I wanted it. It isn't built yet.

- new zero fret and nut for my Vigier Excess

Other than strings, that is it.

Oh I was counting straps as consumables.

I had to get a turquoise strap from the states, I mean, it is hard to get the right colour when you have a turquiose bass. In fairness, it was more than the effects pedals!

Nice!

My rules are that I 'need' two straps (one for my main gigging bass, one for my guitar/backup bass) but that any more than that is a luxury item.

The two extra ones were bought as a 'treat yourself (responsibly)' moment in lockdown after I realised I had been using the same black cotton Levy straps for 15 years and I was getting fed up of having to remove and reset the same strap when I wanted to play another bass.

My new straps are also plain black no frills cotton Levys.

I got a Darkglass Alpha Omega pedal but I don’t remember whether it was in the new year or the very end of last year.

I did buy a Jaguar bass from Black 35 though, which is yet to be built. What happens if it doesn’t arrive until next year? Does that mean it doesn’t count for 2020 and I’m still on the wagon?

Nope, every bass has its strap. Some of them are the generic ones though. and obviously there is a spare
