  1. Hi folks There’s an Ampeg SVT-VR for sale near me. Refinished in white vinyl, with matching 1x15 cab. £1400. It’s on Facebook. I’m really tempted but just don’t think I could manage it or need the power. Having struggled in the past with moving other tube heads I’m not sure I want to go back, but man does it look cool. May be of interest to someone, which will stop me buying it! Happy to go and check it out if useful to anyone. It’s in York. https://www.facebook.com/share/Cw5cNxZrkiu24Sd5/?mibextid=79PoIi

  2. Hope and Anchor last night with The Psychodahlias. Good support from Fuzzy Head, reminded me of The Damned, brilliant! Not the best venue for a 7 piece but nice to be back at a place I haven’t played since the early 80’s. Finished our set at 11:00, got home 4:00. 🙄

  4. TODAY! Shirley Beer & Cider festival with the Cantina Band! Firrst band on, a one hour set at 3PM, Backline provided, sound engineer and everything - unusual for us. Backline was slightly less good than was mentioned in the contract, but it'd be a bit churlish to complain, right? Halfway through the setlist, we realised we still had about 40 minutes left to play so we had to chuck a few old faithfuls in. We played pretty well, Crowd seemed to enjoy it (from afar), it was all going great guns until the power went... it came back on eventually, minus monitors, so we did what we could for the last few songs. Played the Steling -> small board -> Hartke 410 (I was promised an Ampeg, dammit!) Pay wasn't great so they made it up with beer tokens, enjoyed a pint of Mavis Bumblethorpes (?) Perry (5.4% ABV) on stage, then once we'd finshed, I had a pint of Giddy Goat cider (6.8%), followed by a pint of Merrithorpe's blackout stout (8.75% ABV), then it was back to the cider for a pint of the Spazwhistle (?) 'Guvnor' (10.7% ABV), then I think I had a couple of pints of the Arthur Baslingtons 'Deep, dark pit of depression' (15.8% ABV), followed by a pint of Fotheringay's Self-loathing IPA (21.8% ABV), then it was back to the Cider bar for a couple of pints of Fighty McBastards 'Punchdrunk' Perry (27.9% ABV) which was delicious, before trying the Scrambleton's 'Regret' chocolate stout (39.875% ABV), then I decided to play it safe with a nice, refreshing pint of Samuel Bobbington's 'What in the name of God?'' (19.8456% ABV) before I really went for it with four pints of Asquith's 'Kidney Killer' (57.7% ABV). I was a teensy bit tipsy by this point, so decided to play it safe and stuck to the easy drinking, super quafffable Hampton's 'This is a terrible idea' Porter (157.8% ABV) for the final six pints. Apparently, I walked the 3.8 miles home.

  7. I asked for advice on buying this guitar and amp on another thread, and appreciate all the advice given. Well, I bought it....my first bass. A squire P bass and a Fender Rumble 25. Stripped it all down last night and cleaned & polished the frets and fretboard, body, chrome hardware. It was a bit too black and white for my liking, so put a matt black vinyl wrap on the pickguard. Put it all back together, and a new set of strings. Well pleased with how it came out. Plays really well, now to try and learn how to play the thing. Couple of before and after pics (hopefully).

  8. Having completed two other Guitarbuild.co.uk basses (https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/478420-guitarbuildcouk-bass/ and https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/490058-nbd-guitarbuildcouk-bass-2) I wanted to do (at least) one more. Body and neck were ordered and arrived yesterday. Parts for the build have been trickling in over the last few months as I found the bits I wanted. Once again, the whole process working with Jasmine at Guitarbuild.co.uk was smooth from start to finish and the body and neck are everything I hoped for. The body, like the other two, is the P-bass body, except this time it's actually going to have a P-bass pickup :gasp: Main wood is alder with a swamp ash veneer from the special collection. Neck is two piece flamed maple - and it's gorgeous. All black hardware is going to be Hipshot B-bridge, licensed Hipshot 1/2" ultralights, Hipshot three-way string retainer and Schaller straplock buttons. Pickup is going to be a Tonerider TRP1 with a special custom @KiOgon wiring loom - John made me a completely modular P-bass loom that I can easily wire up with or without either volume or tone pot. First config will be pickup straight to the output and only if I don't like that will I start drilling holes in the body. Current plan is to finish the body in clear Wudtone (like the other two basses) though I have toyed with the idea of doing either Olympic white, or... orange. Thoughts on that?? So, without further ado... photos before I get started doing anything:

  9. Many thanks go to Rob and his lovely family for creating the time and place and victualling us all day. One can never have too much tea. It was great to see old friends and make new ones. My love for P bass tone was affirmed again and I wish I’d have had a play on Luke’s Bravewood. His pedal board was awesome. It made me realise I’ve drifted away from being in touch with what is happening with things bass The shootout was interesting. My Accugrove was warm sounding and that suits me. I was surprised just how good my forgotten ‘spare’ GK Legacy 800 sounded alongside my Eich T900 and Tec Puma 900. Those two sounded near identical btw. A good bass bash leaves us with new inspiration. This was a good bass bash 🙂 Photo to follow. Peter Old guy in the pink shirt.

  11. Here's a few YouTube links to help your research! The Pedal: https://www.withbassinmind.com/the-pedal The Promo Video: For audio reference, here's a short video of me stumbling through a Jaco solo - there's nothing in the signal path other than the 'Finally' V2 (although, in fairness, I did re-amped the signal through my LB-2.N). If you'd like to know anything else - please feel free to pop by my social media pages (Facebook, or Instagram) and drop me a direct line! My very best, thanks for reading! Philip

  12. The thing is, that's exactly what we did. Everything is laid out very clearly in the 'warning' - which appears as a notification which you have to acknowledge before you can carry on. It was ignored. It was not us who 'went public' which I agree is a shame, and we have been painted as the bad guys somehow, despite, if you read the 'warning' a genuinely friendly offer to help do some research, which we're happy to do (and is really easy in this case). A similar situation recently resulted in the poster sending me a PM after reading the 'warning' note, we got talking and I ended up sending him a free membership. The system works if you follow it.

  15. I "accidentally " bought another Yamaha BBG5N11 recently. Seller readvertised the bass after a no sale. I put in a cheeky "that won't win" bid - I was the only bidder. Several days later the spade, er bass arrives. Strings are rusty and dirty. Not a set either. Removed I find the Nut is moving freely. Previous owner must have been a potato farmer - fretboard is filthy and bone dry. No idea where this has been living... Out come the wipes, cleaning duster and the Lemon oil...half an hour later ee have a clean, oiled fretboard looking infinitely better...Nut now glued in safely. Letting the glue dry and the nut to settle in before fitting a set of black tapewounds... How do people let this happen to instruments?? Everything has a value...why would you neglect something so that it deteriorates?? It's beyond me.. Photos to follow...

  21. A very enjoyable day indeed. Thanks for organising Rob, and thanks to you and your daughter for catering so wonderfully. My bacon butty on arrival was just what I needed, along with the plentiful supply of tea, Yorkshire tea, in a real teapot an all. Without tea, I think I might die. It was great to meet everyone too, the time flew by. It was good to see and hear such a variety of instruments, amplifiers and effects, and to get to try them out. My favourite bass, well I really liked @LukeFRC's Bravewood P bass. Also that GK amp which @GreeneKing had kept hidden all day until the end. The cab shootout was also interesting for me, I liked the BC 12" cab a lot, again @LukeFRC had brought that. But there was so much that was new to me and unfamiliar, I'm going to have to widen my horizons. Cheers, Rob

  23. It may be cheaper to buy a sack of sand, and walk around your house with it for one week at least 30 minutes three times a day. You'll get more muscles, or less Ampeg. Or more Ampeg, because then you have the power to carry it to gigs and rehearsals.

  27. Hi all! I'm probably getting pretty fed up with my posts, but today I finally finished building the pick attack, and I want to show you what happened. I apologize for the poor performance, I am not a tool player, the sound is not processed in any way, there is no vst. I am ready to answer any questions regarding the wal amplifier. tutu.mp4

  29. I don't really see why - if there was no rule, nobody would pay for an advert, and BC wouldn't exist. As much as we'd like to, we can't make any exceptions, can we? Every post/thread that alludes to an item being for sale is removed and the poster receives a very nice detailed and courteous reply as to why: See, we even offer to help you research! Tell me how that's unfair?

  30. Another from my small group of instruments up for sale is this beautiful LAG. I've had this for a number of years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Sadly the motivation for playing has been very low and the house costs are increasing so looking to potentially move some things on, no matter how pretty they are. To my knowledge, this was made in France in '84(?) before the manufacturing was shipped off overseas. I've reached out to LAG a few times for some specifics but ultimately got nowhere. Only ever seen one other in this configuration and another in grey. I believe the gold hardware is original (Made in W.Germany Schallers) but not sure about the EMG pickups. An old dear so carries a few bumps and scrapes but overall in very nice condition. Have tried to capture any dings in the photos. Collection or meet would be preferred but delivery could potentially be arranged. Any questions please let me know.

  32. I thought I'd replace my Stomp with a full fat Helix. Thought I'd got a good deal on a Floor but it got cancelled (I missed his messages which was to say that the funds wouldn't be released until after he'd gone on a tour that he was selling the Floor to buy an amp for, otherwise I'd have bought it by another means) so concluded that I didn't need the four send/returns or the scribble strips so an LT would do. So it arrived, and the first impression was that it was very big. Second impression too. It does mean I no longer need my six-button MIDI controller or external power supply though. I tried restoring my saved patches from the Stomp, and much to my delight that worked. So now I'm going to do some more experimenting and try an organ synth in a send/return loop.

  34. Hi Jonse! This is lovely to see - thank you so much for the mention on Basschat, it makes a huge difference to the reach of small businesses - I'm afraid I'm not on this platform a great deal, so would love this opportunity to tell you about the unit. Firstly, I must agree a little with Walshy, I also had the original unit and wasn't completely knocked out by it, so I contact Nathan Slade and we gave it a little polish! The 'With Bass In Mind' edition features a number of refinements to the original unit, the main one being the valve which comes as stock... I've never been a lover of 12AUX preamp valves, their a little too harsh and over saturated for my liking, thus the WBIM Edition is fitted is a 12AU7, which is far smoother and provides less saturation - a subtle difference, but changes the overall characteristics of the pedal substantially - think more Fender Bassman, than Ampeg. The idea of the unit is relatively straight forward, a small footprint DI box which runs on a 9v power supply, intended to sit at the end of your pedal board. It's able to enrich your signal with warm valve tones (similar to that of a RedDI, Noble, or Khan DI), act as a signal splitter (XLR and 1/4') whilst also supplying natural compression. I spent 90% of my stage time on IEM these days, so it's a perfect addition when only utilising the signal from my pedal board into FOH. However, when there's an amp present, it gently warms up any light weight Class D digital power amps - think less of it as a distortion box (which I've already seen written), and more as a valve DI. It's also been awesome to work with in the studio. A number of my With Bass In Mind students have now taken delivery - Nathan ships from Chicago and there's usually about a two week lead time - they're selling like hot cakes. As soon as I'm off this current run of performances with The Drifters, I'll be able to find some time to produce a little more internet content - there's a few bits on my YouTube channel, but not a great deal (will share below).

  39. Last night's Jam Night was the last in McCafferty's Epsom. It will move to The Queen Adelaide in Ewell. That will mean Public Transport or a 15 minute drive for me so less convenient than the "Get driven there, walk home after a couple of beers and a few rum and cokes" that has been my normal mode of transport. It seems like a big change for me, though I guess not so much for those of you driving several hours to gigs. The venue change is due to the pub trying to cut the fee of the host band (Prime Numbers). I heard a £30 reduction mentioned. If that really is the case then the pub are nuts. I'm not sure I've seen many pubs full on a Thursday night, even when I used to frequent them on a regular basis. Maybe it was someone in head office trying to cut costs across all the pubs rather than letting the local manager manage - that's just a guess though. However much it was they were trying to reduce the fee by, I would have thought revenue would exceed band and extra staff costs in a full pub. The night was pretty good after a slowish start. There were a couple of new bands came. One was made up of employees from GuitarGuitar, another (Canada Hill) had a singer who's voice was just different enough along with good enough material (which I think they said was original) that they may be worth looking out for. My band "In Progress" weren't playing as the drummer (Jake) and Guitarist (James) have gone to Nice for a boys' holiday. I managed to grab a slot with a couple of members of Prime Numbers. A regular attending drummer also didn't have anyone to play with so joined us. We'd sorted the 3 songs out the night before. So I'd had a chance to remind myself of the bass line to Crazy Little Thing Called Love and to listen and jam along to "Keep your hands to yourself" by "The Georgia Satellites" - it's a good song to rock out to. I managed to slip "Teenage Kicks" into the set list. As "In Progress" weren't playing I was less concerned about whacking our singer (5'2" Vicky) on the back of the head, so my Ric got an outing - 2 in 5 days for it, the other being in church last Sunday. Here's me doing 2 of the things bassists (or at least this bassist) shouldn't do in the same song 😀 Teenage Kicks with Prime Numbers.mp4
