I got this at the weekend that I absolutely love to bits, and just wanted to share. A huge thank you to @walshy for his patience and good nature over the past weeks, as I’ve bombarded him with various questions, requests for excruciatingly detailed dimensions and pics galore. “Walshy, if the neck was an 80s pop act, who would it be? Which discontinued item of confectionery is the bass most like?” Prefab Sprout, and a Texan Bar, since you ask! I’ve been after a ‘68 to ‘73 period P Bass for a while now. I tried some lovely basses, but they weren’t quite for me, as I was after a specific neck profile. As soon as I picked this up I knew it was what I was after. Virginia Plain, Metal Guru, In a Broken Dream, All The Young Dudes, Ernie (the fastest milkman in the west), and this bass: 1972 was a good year…18 points

Well folks, that's me bowing out. I have just taken delivery of a bass which has been living rent-free in my head for about 12 years. A Greco LGB-700, three pickup. More pics later, but it needs a bloody good clean, new strings and a setup. There will be mucho bass fettling tonight. And in case you're wondering about how I know about the 12 year thing...8 points

I placed this order quite some time ago, so long ago in fact that I don’t even have the original email chain with all of the details on it. I did ask Jon to ping the spec back to me so I can share it with everyone, but this beauty arrived today. It’s not the first lavish spec Shuker I’ve owned, so I know how good his work is, but this is quite something. The preamp/pickup combo is fierce, a really biting tone. Soon as I get Jon to send the spec back to me I’ll share!7 points

Well, that's me crashed out of gear abstinence for this year and it's time for my full confession (although I'm 1 in, 1 out for the year so far, so could be worse). But I have a good excuse - this bass has been living rent-free in my head for nearly 12 years* and I finally snagged one in the finish I wanted. Black and silver ones pop up more often but I've only seen the purpleburst available two or three times in all these dozen years, so seeing as I'm not getting any younger, I decided a bit of carpe diem was in order. It's a three pickup, Les Paul shaped bass. It has three Greco T-bird-a-like pickups and three volume controls. That's it. Hardware is good quality - a Hipshot B style bridge and Gotoh tuners. It's had a life, there are some dings and scuffs in it but it's taken a polish well, the pickups have buffed up nicely and the fretboard enjoyed a drink of lemon oil very much. Lovely, dark rosewood board, yum. S'pose you'll be wanting some pics... It sounds great - I had a blast through my TC Electronic BH250 into headphones and it's got a lot of mid poke about it - might have to boost my mids a bit less when I'm playing this guy! Using the different pickups in different combinations makes noticeable changes to the tone, but it's not quite the same as having a tone knob - I might mod it but I'm not in a hurry. * TWELVE BLOODY YEARS - https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/210350-sorted-greco-3-pickup-les-paul-bass/6 points

Because I clearly needed another Jazz Bass.. 😬 This lovely thing arrived from the folks over in Leamington Spa, BassBros this morning - it's an '04 and is is near perfect condition. They'd done a lovely job setting it up although I've done a few minor tweaks to get it just where I want it. It feels great, it sounds great and looks fantastic. ❤️6 points

I've had this for years. Bought on this forum from a fellow in Yorkshire (Wil I think?) It aint perfect, has dings that have been touched up (see pics). All original though from memory. Currently wearing flats. Sounds pretty cool. Has some neck dive but not too bad and the thing only weighs 7-8lbs (see pic). Will come with a light weight gig bag. I don't really like posting but may consider it. I'll deliver or meet within 100 miles or so for some fuel contribution. I also get up and down the country with a theatre show so could potentially deliver that way. I'd rather you try in person if at all possible. PM for more info if needed. Please search for my feedback. No trades, sale only. £450 £425ONO4 points

I bought this bass on the forum last year to use in a theatre gig. I used it for half a year before switching to a PJ bass. Only selling as it won't get used. It's a lovely looking (white pearlescent, rosewood neck with block inlay), playing and sounding instrument. Weighs about 8-8.5lbs (see pic), so easy to wear for long periods. It's in great condition and has recently been serviced by Shane Haigh in Wakefield including a fret level and setup. The setup might be a little off now as it was adjusted for Eb tuning but is now back to standard E tuning. It has a newer wiring harness. It has a D tuner. It will come with a light weight gig bag. I might consider posting but would rather you try it out in person. I get up and down the country with the show so could bring it along if you are near a venue. I'll also drive to deliver or meet within 100 miles for a little fuel contribution. No trades, sale only. £700 £675 ONO PM for more info if needed. Please search for my feedback on here.4 points

Hey Guys, My amp has died for the second time and will need to replace it unfortunately. So, reluctantly I’m offering up my Sadowsky MX jazz that I bought brand new from Thomann last April to fund it. This one is from a later batch and doesn’t have the issues that plagued the original run of these basses. I had the frets professionally levelled not long after purchasing it by Mark at Wilts Guitar Repair in Trowbridge. Ever since then it has been my go-to bass has a lovely low action and the preamp is the classic Sadowsky preamp minus the VTC control, so you still get that classic Sadowsky tone. The bass is in very good condition and will come with the official padded Sadowsky gig bag. Ideally I’d like to sell it, but if someone has a bass combo/bass stack they might be interested in parting with then let me know. Here’s a few clips of it in action: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DCfOnJdOkgr/?igsh=MWQ1YzF3dHExdDdyeQ== https://www.instagram.com/reel/C-07e-cuO9Z/?igsh=MTBidHB6bm9laG51dg== https://www.instagram.com/reel/C8hd2qdtEI4/?igsh=OXQwanlzdmI5Y3Jw I’m after £300. Collection from Bridgwater, Somerset. I can also deliver within a certain distance as well. I can post but would have to ask for another £30 for insured delivery in the UK. Any questions please ask. Thanks, Josh.4 points

WITHDRAWN FOR NOW Up for sale is my sunburst Musicman Stingray Ex (1998 I believe). 3-band preamp, lovely rosewood neck and one of the nicest sunburst finishes I've seen. The "Ex" means that this is a USA stingray, but assembled in Japan. It comes with a non original hardcase. This is a fairly reluctant sale. It is the lightest 'Ray I own, although I am basing this on feel rather than use of dodgy kitchen scales. The previous owner estimated this to be 9 lbs (advert here). There are some minor battle scars on the edge of the body - this bass has been played-in and loved, but not abused. Happy to deliver/meet within an easy drive of Exeter. I often gig in Plymouth. I can find a cardboard box and happy to discuss quotes for UK shipping etc.3 points

An article in the BBC about 'super rare' 5 neck guitars from Hutchins being sold at auction... oh yeah, well I had a SIX neck version so 😝 If it has loads of strings, I've probably owned it!! Appreciate this is a completely pointless post... feel free to move along! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjevveglx88o.amp3 points

Picked up a "used condition" p bass body on eBay for the hefty sum of £20, combined with a jazz neck I had in the garage, hardware from my junk box and some emg gzr used off Amazon - presenting the bullseye bass because yes, they are air gun wounds, including a souvenir pellet still wedged in?! That's one way to relic I guess!3 points

Mark sent another update - lots of progress. All the chambering has been done - the top has been glued on and the neck blank has been glued up. Awesome to see the progress!3 points

Here's both my 71s, which gives an idea of the variation. The darker one looks almost black in some light. Note the lack of sharp detail - it's more about molten, swirly depth.3 points

Probably better to compare against other independents and stores that have comparable shipping volume? Bassbros, for instance? Vintage Bass Room?3 points

I knew this would be nice to play and would look lovely, but I wasn't prepared for the monstrous sound to come out of it! I have various instruments, each of which has some good qualities but also some failings. This is just huge. Everything's there. I'm lost for words. It's a DiMarzio Billy Sheehan pickup. A Relentless, I think. I went to see The Raven of this parish, hoping to buy his Shuker PJ. I played it, liked it (though I was really looking for a passive P but of course it also works passive and it's not obligatory to use the J pickup) and was about to hand over the cash when, being a nosey sod, I said -what's in that other case? -oh, that's another Shuker, here, have a look. -I'll take it. -Done. Pleasure doing business with you. Might still have to go back for the PJ, mind.2 points

Last year I ordered an Ibanez that turned up virtually unplayable , like 4.5 - 5mm action and intonation out, only slightly but enough to bug me. I don't expect a 1 1/2 hour set up or plek or whatever on a thousand quid bass, but I'd at least fancy not having to wrestle with it. I got the feeling they were having a laugh and wound out the saddles to max height as a FU gesture for asking do they check the set up. Turns out I got it sorted after a while setting up and the bass was otherwise immaculate. Ok, Sorted moved on. So back to this week; I've been thinking for a while let's see what all this Dingwall fuss is about so asked a few questions on a NG3 5 string in black (that appeared to have been in a while). I asked what year it was, does it have a nice low action and is it definitely new and not a return. The answers were: not sure what year it is, possibly a 2024, yes Dingwalls can achieve a low action and no mention of the new/return. I sort of got the impression they aren't that bothered about selling Dingwalls. I thought mmm, OK we'll let things ride and go with the flow. Hit checkout then up pops the £15 delivery charge. On a 2300 quid item, really??? All the little snags I'd forgotten about suddenly came rushing back to me and I thought I'm out. Don't know if I'm being a little too arsy or whether music shop staff are right and the customer is always wrong...2 points

Amazing P Bass as far as I’m aware it’s all original except for refin which is absolutely gorgeous, and it plays like a dream. As you all know these are awesome basses with lots of character and mojo. I’m looking for a quick sale. As I’m moving. It’s had a pro setup and the necks really good. Can post at buyers cost.2 points

Lots of great bass and string recommendations. I'd come at it from a different angle as I have the same general issues (I'm 65 and have been playing for 52 years). I have arthritis in my left hand (more than my right) and have found two things that really helped manage my situation (beyond what's already been suggested). 1) I've cut way back on my sugar intake - and have been amazed at how much that appears to help reduce the inflammation and 2) I wear fingerless compression gloves (even when I play) that provide subtle compression of my hands and really seem to help. I think part of what they help with is better circulation in my hands. I use gloves from a company called OneCompress - although I'm sure there are lots of others out there. Good luck - it can be very frustrating!2 points

The body, pickups and hardware are from a Vintera 70s Jazz bass serial MX19058123. I attached it to an AllParts rosewood neck, but have purchased an AllParts 3TSB body to pair with the lovely neck, so I'm selling this fully loaded body. All you need to add is a neck and some strings! I bought the bass second-hand, but there was an issue with the original neck, hence the swap. All the parts are original, except for the knobs and control plate. And the shielding. Everything works perfectly. According to my luggage scales, it weight 2.87 kg all in (as seen in the first picture). The listing also includes a parchment pickguard from Axesrus, ivory pickup covers and chrome knobs (as seen in the last picture). Style it as you please! £299 inclusive of delivery seems fair, but let me know otherwise! If you have any questions then please let me know. Thanks!2 points

A long, long time ago (early 2000s?) I made a slightly similar thing but with a different purpose: to generate a range of the worst, most cliched and generic names for pub rock bands. The sole aim was to make people snigger, groan, and roll their eyes. And purely for the displeasure of Basschat, I present it here: http://greenwax.co.uk/pubrock_bandname_generator I find that you can easily check it for authenticity by imagining a slightly overenthusiastic front-man bellowing "Hello Tiverton, we are... " If you hit the refresh button a few times, you're sure to find the name of a grotty pub band you've actually seen. And if you find the name of your own band, I apologise. You should probably change your band name. 😄2 points

Anyway, yes, we had a gig yesterday and despite polishing my DMs earlier in the day I didn't take a photo of them. In fact I didn't take any worth posting. A new venue for us in Nuneaton. This is probably the 10th place we've played in the town and it's all been organic, word of mouth - which is nice. We had a few in from another venue we play not far away, which was also nice. It was quite a large pub so we were glad of the extra people. Low ceiling and carpet made for a slightly different "on stage" sound to normal, suppressing the top end, but I've played my Rumble for long enough to trust that it will still project a good tone out to the audience. The drummer even removed some of the gaffer tape damping from his cowbell 😂 Anyway we went down well, and they did the usual trick of waiting until the last song to start dancing and then wanting us to carry on all night. At least we left them wanting more. That's our last one for a few weeks - our guitarist is off touring the UK and Germany with Martin Turner (ex Wishbone Ash) through March and April. We just have the odd gig or two in the gaps. I'm looking forward to some free weekends to crack on with the garden and my VW camper (1979 aircooled late bay).2 points

This weekend's rig of choice was based around some old school Ashdown kit. A big mag and a wee mag. The wee mag 200 is tried and tested, and was brought along as a back up to the big mag 600. Reason being, the big mag was bought as a parts only unit a few days ago. Both are UK built, and the big mag 600 only needed some minor repairs to get it going again ( new input and output volume pots, a new sub harmonic pot, and lastly a new VU meter bulb). Serviced and fully cleaned. Did its first gig in alledgedly years, sounded brilliant and performed brilliantly. I've owned a few mag 600 evoII before, but never bonded with them. This old UK built one sounds so much better than any other MAG i've used. The only real difference is that the UK ones came with very high quality and high output Demeter transformers instead of the generic PRC ones. Bass and pedals - same as it ever was. Cab is my 4 ohm Laney R210.2 points

Fender Jazz Bass ’62 Reissue (1983) Fullerton Factory Reluctantly selling my Fender Jazz: the details below are from the original advert. Purchased from Andy Baxter Bass Guitars in 2012 (Hackney, London. Now in Leeds). I have the original receipt. It was owned and played for many years by someone in Boston USA. I also include some info on Fullerton Factory Reissues. This 1983 Fender Jazz Bass Fullerton factory 62 reissue pays tribute to the original version of the model. Features include an alder body with nitro cellulose lacquer finish in 3 colour sunburst, lightly tinted maple neck with a 1962 U shape. Rosewood fingerboard, and vintage frets, vintage style Jazz bass pickups , stacked concentric control knobs, tortoise pickguard, vintage style hardware. The finish shows lots of natural play wear. The relic look on this bass is all natural which adds to the time period feel. (This is not a relic repro). The nitro shows lots of weather checking. The neck dates 23rd Jan 1983 the pots date 1982, body date unclear. Missing thumb rest & metal covers. The truss rod works and the bass is set up nice and low with a very fast action. The bass comes with a period correct case. The frets were stone ground back in 2012 and remain good due to occasional use. Fullerton History: (from a Fullerton Strat ad) For those less familiar with the Fullerton factory, it was Fender's first return to the pre-CBS Leo Fender era of making guitars. these are known as some of the best instruments Fender produced since '64. Built on the pre-CBS machines to vintage spec by master technicians, these instruments play like butter and sound as close as you'll get to a legitimate pre-CBS Fender. (Not to mention, this neck is stamped "J. Torres", one of the most famous fender neck builders ever. just google "J Torres Fender" and see what people have to say about the quality of his necks). This bass is available from Essex….. collection only….. I have checked prices in Europe and USA and are currently between £3000 and £4000 for both Fullerton Reissue Precisions and Jazz’s Price is £3500.00 Bank transfer prior to collection. For further details, please PM me. Thanks for looking.2 points
