Just one? Ooh, tough choice. Avoiding solo albums by bass players, probably Paul Simon’s Graceland.*

Told ya…

Just for the bass playing, Oil on Canvas - Japan, Mick Karn shining throughout.

Graceland does have some stunning playing  though - GAH! 😫

If there was 1 album you'd buy/listen too just for the bass, which one would it be?

I've been thinking a lot about this very thing today actually. I want to buy a new record so I have to choose wisely given the expense, so a vinyl version of an old fave is what will get me to put my hand in my pocket.

After much deliberation ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together for our winner...

RUSH - Exit Stage Left

(The crowd goes wild, ripping out all the seats. Everyone goes home naked.)

Great question and not an easy one, there’s so many but 2 that spring to mind are,

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner-Black Uhuru, Robbie Shakespeare at his best I’d say,

And rather than pick one particular album I’ll say Legend , which is a compilation album by Bob Marley and the Wailers, every bassline by Aston Barrett was just perfect

One featuring the fretless work of either John Giblin or Pino Palladino. I'll go with Fish's Vigil in a wilderness of mirrors with John Giblin, although I'd also be tempted by a Paul Young album.

Kaya came in at #2 actually Tony.

I've only just bought the cd which is always on in the car, but it's next in the vinyl queue. It's not just good, it's had a real affect on me. Right album, right time...

Not my favourite band or album but Jamiroquai's Emergency on Planet Earth' has consistently sublime basslines from start to finish, most of them up front and centre in the mix.

Mysterious Traveller by Weather Report. Obviously Jaco was a genius but I prefer everything about the way Alphonso Johnson played and his work on this album is sublime.
