What do we make of Danny Sapko?

I don't know if it is big brother influencing my youtube feed, but he seems to be everywhere in bass related content at the moment. I quite like the guy. While he isn't a virtuoso like Berthoud or Wooten, he does seem to be a good player with a lot of character, and if music is about performing he has that nailed. He also comes across well on camera, and while his punk persona is fun, there does seem to be a more thoughtful person (and player) under the safety pins. Mind you I'd be scared to meet him in person!

I like him.  I like his irreverant short Yorkshireman schtick and that he's, obviously, a tidy player behind it.

 

From the serious moments in his or others videos he seems a nice guy as well.

You are right, he is everywhere, all over youtube and all over here. If I never saw a video with his face on it again it would still be too soon. While I find it hard to accept the idea of hating someone you don't know, he is someone who could change that feeling for me. Don't know what it is, just absolutely detest videos with the guy.

Andertons have even done a big interview with him on their YouTube channel which I thought was a little unusual.

Click on the three dots to the right of a video title of his - choose "Don't recommend channel", job's a good 'un.

Can't watch anything that has him in it. Totally hate his personality and style. Probably a really great guy.  Seems a bit of a Karen to me though.

Sadly not, I did that on video one, it still pops up, turns up on other videos, turns up on facebook, even when you select 'don't show me content like this' his smug annoying face turns up on the next thing, and even when you think he has gone, someone else will post his inane dribblings about how someone else is the problem with the world.

I remember when he first started popping up years ago. I couldn't bear him - his stuff was so TECHNICOLOR and in-your-face.

Turns out he was just ahead of the curve.

I still couldn't bear him until recently, but at some point I had another go accepting him as a bit of a cartoon character, and... I get him now. He's funny.

That said, I'd never watch him to learn anything.

The only musical people I am interested in are those who make music I enjoy, or those who make equipment or instruments that I want to use. Mr Sapko appears to do none of those things so as far as I am concerned he's an irrelevance.

I didn't really answer the question.  It may be hard to believe but I have no strong opinion about him, despite his best efforts to be edgy and an "acquired taste".  Seems to be able to play the bass, probably better than me.  Says the word "bass" funny.

I think Mr Sapko and myself would have completely different music tastes judging by his playing on clips, but I find the guy funny and love some of his not-so-subtle mickey takes when he lists people and puts another person's photo up. 

 

Carry on Danny as far as I am concerned.
