SimonK Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Just to manage expectations - as I am getting excited about this already - is there any reason why I can't pack my car with cabs and other random bass kit I have collected over the years, and then just comment on the day that I am open to offers should anyone else want to buy any of it from me? Note I am not a business, just someone whose bass collection has got a little bit out of control and this could be a good opportunity to pass some bits of it on to others without faffing with ebay/postage? 1 Quote

There's always been a sale table - no reason why this can't be the case here. 1 Quote

Yep (ref. pg#3). Do we need to give any disclaimers regarding that "the management accepts no responsibility", etc.? Quote

Living up here isn't exactly conducive to a life in the thick of the bass world!! I'm about three hours away from the venue, so at the moment I'm not sure. I'd love to be there otherwise! 1 1 Quote

prowla Posted July 31 Posted July 31 I'd just like to point out that this venue is a single hall, so we can organise the talks as interludes between folks bashing their basses (or is it vice-versa!). We've got about 5 hours to play with, so it should work out about right. 1 Quote

What about a chat on the practical use of compression for the gigging bass player? Some compression chats can get overly technical and alienate some folk. Quote

Wombat Posted Thursday at 09:05 Posted Thursday at 09:05 I’m still not 100% certain I can attend but I was going to bring my Livetrack-12, NUX MG-30 & Stomp so people can have an idea of what ‘no amp’ can sound like. And be able to play as loud as they like without annoying anyone else. I have a few spare earbud tips and wet wipes but remember to stick your own headphones/earbuds in! Also if anyone is thinking of travelling from Bromley/Orpington area I have space in the car! 1 Quote

Some compression chats can get overly technical and alienate some folk. Anyone who knows my “chats” (students) will already have their coffee and biscuits within arm’s reach. Today, one of my students threw me an off-the-cuff question during a lesson. Ninety minutes later, we finally had to wrap things up—half an hour over time—because I wanted to make sure every detail was covered. The question was about using tablets, laptops, or desktops alongside audio interfaces for practice at home, recording, and live performance. We ended up diving into everything from hardware options (interfaces, multi-effects with built-in interfaces, etc.) and key specifications, to saving money with smart software choices. We covered IRs, neural modelling, Bluetooth and its drawbacks, latency issues and fixes, and even multi-path audio setups for separate signal chains and destinations (FOH, IEMs, backline). We finished with signal chain strategies for transmitting your sound efficiently and effectively. And I still wasn't done. I love these lessons, it's exciting to build a lesson on the fly. 2 Quote
Sean Posted Thursday at 17:43 Posted Thursday at 17:43 (edited) Good News - Guest Update I have confirmation today that Matt Gleeson of Monty's Guitars has agreed to come along and do a chat, demo and Q&A session on Monty's bass pickups. He'll also be telling us about Monty's future bass products (really exciting stuff) and will be listening to all your feedback on needs and wants regarding bass pickups, preamps and anything else. There'll be some Monty's booty in the raffle too. There'll be a couple of Monty's-loaded basses for you to try out and we'll be offering a pickup fitting service on the day if anyone wants to buy some and get them fitted there and then. Donation to charity £TBC for pickup fitting. We've agreed to do the demos through a couple of different amps (full valve, hybrid analogue, Class D) using an LFSys Monaco @stevie so that we get as transparent and as full a sound as we can from the pickups. Well, I'm bringing Matt and probably his #1 to do the video of his talk. Then there's all the unconfirmed guests and traders. It's three months away, there's a lot of Basschatters within an hour of it and bet a few quid on us busting 50 easily. How big is the hall? Do we need a venue with multiple rooms? I've never done a bash before, so have no reference point. Edited 21 hours ago by Sean 1 Quote

Multiple rooms are really useful @Sean- hence why the previous venue we used in Addlestone, courtesy of @Hamster, was so good over the years. But I'm sure we can find a way to make this venue work, and it's great that you've found somewhere that we can get together in this year. Besides, not everyone who says they can make, gets there on the day, and people don't all arrive at the same time either. So, I'm sure it'll be fine. FWIW, I was heavily involved in running the SE Bash for years, so if you want to have a chat about anything, just send me a PM - I'm more than happy to help. Cheers Nik 2 Quote
NancyJohnson Posted 18 hours ago Author Posted 18 hours ago @prowla and I are checking about an additional room at the same location. To be honest I think were both overwhelmed at the uptake. My main concern is that there's enough power/sockets. There's no agenda/running order or anything as of yet, so we would be grateful if anyone has invited speakers/demo guys that we're let known ahead of the curve. More later. 1 1 Quote

stevie Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I've attended both the SW and the SE Bashes. The SW is in a single hall with one secondary room. The SE was in multiple, smaller rooms. For auditioning gear, the multiple rooms of the SE Bash were infinitely superior. Here, you're in a room with four to six other bassists and don't have to wait long before you can try the gear of your choice at a decent volume without clashing with someone else. Also, turning the volume up in one room doesn't affect anyone in the other rooms. Despite its many-sided wonderfulness, the SW Bash isn't always ideal for auditioning gear because of the way sound travels from one end of the room to another. If you get several people playing at the same time, it can become a bit messy. And with forty people in the room, there is always going to be a clash, no matter how considerate everyone is (which they usually are at the SW Bash). @cetera mentioned this earlier in the thread. So, if there's another room going, I'd suggest getting it. On the matter of mains sockets, @scrumpymike always reminds people to bring an extension, and that's worked well in the past. Quote
