It all depends what mood I'm in and what type of music I feel like listening to.. But if I had to choose, then these would be my favourites I suppose,because I've listened to them repeatedly over the years , and still do. Male: Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Bowie, Marvin Gaye, Donnie Hathaway, Prince, Jeff Buckley, Jim Morrison, Guy Garvey, Lennon/McCartney. Female: Kate Bush, Ronnie Spector, KD Lang, Bjork, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Jane Siberry, Alison Goldfrapp, Amy Winehouse, Minnie Ripperton. Some brilliant names already mentioned above too! As well as his band work saw him in a very small acoustic intimate gig recently and he was brilliant. [/quote] If you're going to do growly and clean vocals, you should definitely do it like Akerfeldt. Not like those ones all over Scuzz and Kerrang! who sound like teenagers ranting when they think their mum can't hear them and then whining when they realise she can. It's such a let down. There'll be some nice chunky, heavy riffage and deep growly vocals, and then all of a sudden they all turn into a Disney boy band. If there were so many of them I'd think them a parody!
