I gigged this beauty last night and it sounded amazing and so many folk commented on it and took photos of it. Hate to upset the tone wood fan base but this is made of Lego. And it sounds absolutely awesome.

This is the first of several BB1000MA's I have owned. After 20+ years of this bass being my favourite tool for live and studio work, I decided to give it a makeover. During the time the bass was at the painter, I became very friendly with another 1000MA. But when I took this bass out of its bag yesterday, I immediately knew what I was holding in my hand again. This neck, this specific weight, which my arm immediately recognised... For me and what I do, this is the best bass in the world. And by God, I've had so many more expensive axes, but this is the bass of my life. The new paintwork should still be dark on the one hand, but on the other it should catch the odd spotlight on stage. I tell you, little sparks fly in the sunlight.. 🤩

In this case it's not so simple, as the ports are tapered. Basic ported box speaker modeling software can't account for that. You can do it with a more sophisticated tool, like HornResp or Akabak, but they require a high degree of expertise. However I do happen to have that high degree of expertise, and my rate is reasonable. Free. ☺️

So it seems that I'm the first customer of the new Goodwood cab and I'm very happy with it so far. I've got it to pair with my GSS baby sumo and line 6 helix lt as I've been after a very transparent clear sound that I can colour as much as I like depending on my mood or who I'm playing with. For my needs the Goodwood seems a very good fit, it would appear loud enough for a jam with a loud drummer (I don't play live on the regular and when I do it's seems to always be through FOH or pa these days), you very much get out what you put in so my jazz had a lovely slap sound (not that I play that style much but it's there) and good funk vibes. My pj with tapewounds could be lovely and warm. As for the low b it handled that with ease so no issues there. With a the sounds I tried what stands out is the clarity of sound. I just sold my GK mb500 with matching cx 210 can that set up was loud and bassy but compared this I would describe it as muddy. Now I like muddy and loved it from a epiphone thunderbird pro I used have but the reason I've gone down the road is I want to chose the sound and have lots of variety without lots of gear although gas may have a part to play. An extra bonus is it sounded great playing some blues on my gretch 6 string semi acoustic so 1 rig to rule them all. Amazing what you get out of a small easy to transport small package. One thing to mention is I would say in the flesh the blue is much darker that it seems in photos which I like and to me makes it look more premium. Been trying to return a shirt, using Evri’s return service. Printed the label Evri emailed me, attached it and took it to two of Evri’s recommended return shops. Both times the very patient staff scanned the bar code over and over again but with no luck. In both instances they tried a number of different approaches to registering the return, even confirming that the email and instructions I showed them were correct. I took it another shop this morning by way of a last resort. Again, no joy. I did the mandatory “Evri chance it’ll get lost anyway” jibe at the top of my voice as I took back off the member of staff. To my surprise a fella behind me said “I’m an Evri driver, let me see if I can help?” We went outside to his van, he took out his scanning device and it registered without an issue. He took my parcel, and issued me with a receipt and a card with his name and contact number on. I checked my emails and there it was, registered as collected and on its way to the depot. Look, it may never see the light of day again, but I have to say that the courier couldn’t have been more helpful and at least I do have some evidence of the return being in the system so have a chance of a refund. I’m pretty sure that he went against Evri policy, so this isn’t necessarily a shout to the company, and no it’s not a £25,000 Wal that’s gone missing, more a nice story…. as you were…

So after a night of messing around it’s likely going to end up as this. But I need to play around with it all a lot more before I commit anything to velcro. I figure the zvex and kasleder can just be fun pedals I stick in front of the board running batteries as and when I feel like it.

Facebook is full of scams. I saw one last week for andertons, selling marshal speakers for 9.99. I have seen those before and know they are scammed, so I looked, sure enough it said anderton music supplies, had their logo and everything, then look closer, 120 followers. Reported it as a scam, Did a search for andertons, hundreds of thousands of followers, no little speakers, contacted them they said not to deal with the other thing as it was a scam, I said I knew and had reported it but thought they might have more clout, they said they report them every day and nothing happens. Sure enough, 2 days later got a thing from facebook saying that the complaint wasn't upheld. Now I assume everything on facebook is fake, as long as meta get their money they don't care who they are ripping off.

I’ve got a Two10 as well as the two Monzas at the moment, so I can comment on the difference up to a point. Absolute like to like comparison: same MB LM111 500 with EQ at 12 o’clock and no shaping, same gain and master settings: the Two Monza’s are louder but nothing like as boomy. The Two10 produces overpowering and slightly unpleasant boominess centred around D on the E string, or A string but extended down to the C and up to the E to a lesser extent. I am assuming this is either the cab’s resonant frequency, or my basses’. The Monza’s resonant frequency is around the low B (on a 4 string, not tried a 5) but much less pronounced, with the identical setup and instrument. The Two10 runs out of steam in the highs, whereas the Monzas will keep reproducing what you throw at them. Of course, this is all based on my particular examples but you only need to look at the frequency ranges in the spec sheets to see the objective differences. EQ at equality the Two10 appears to give you more bass but this is because of the huge low mids hump it is tuned to. Barfaced aimed to tune it for a vintage speaker type response and that is what you get. In reality the Monza gives you the same amount of bass but without the low mids boost and without the boominess. Of course, if you want that, you can eq it in. I use the shaping on the LMIII, or the amp character controls on my Blackstar U700 to put in the vintage sound when I need it. Really, comparing the Two10 and the Monzas is comparing chalk and cheese. They have different design objectives and both products achieve them well. I’m not much of a fretless player but my gut instinct is that the FRFR approach of LFSys would suit that application better. Others might disagree.

After a few weekends off from the workshop we made some progress today! The fret board was machined with the channels for the fibre optic side dots in the underside of the board. The headstock face was then machined with the fretboard clamped in place to get the smooth transition 👌. Tomorrow we’ll add the side dots then run the fibre optics 🙌

Social media companies should be made to take responsibility for scam advertising. They can afford it but they'd rather make obscent amounts of profit rather than spend the money on protecting their users.

All I need is the exact internal dimensions, preferable as a top view cutaway.

Shameless plug Personally the Boss Katana Go is better than either. The MP2 sounds better than the Pro to me but the volume control only being in the app made me get the Pro. The pro slowly removed any joy out of playing bass, it doesn’t sound bad, like not that you go oh I hate this, but you find you don’t enjoy playing much with it took me a few months to realise what the problem was. I didn’t have this with the MP2 but as above and even though I’m selling one, Boss Katana Go is much better and the Darkglass Element is better still but faffier to just noodle when you feel like it.

I'm really keen to try one of these. As a fretless bassist who very much has the typical 80's Pino/Giblin tone with chorus and octave, I'm super interested in seeing how clean and defined something like the Monza will be. I'm a very melodic bassist, even cello like in places and I play with a gentle drummer with brushes and shakers and an acoustic guitarist. So I'm after a very clean, rich tone. I like my Barefaced Two10 but I find it has a more vintage tone and lacks something and I have used other cabs/combos that I've preferred tonally. The weight, size and power is also perfect as a gigging rig for my setup.

Two monzas stacked would make a great gigging setup for most occasions but there are always times for more 😁

Bought a 5 with single pu and refinished it. The paint was falling off, and not in a nice way. So I stripped it . The pickguard was cracked in three pieces so I made a new one Very nice to play and lovely feel, neck, knobs and all IMG_20250214_112627.heif

Very nice indeed. Great review! I’m still eternally happy with my Silverstone. I’ll have to paint the baffle blue though to make it properly authentic now! 😝 Great work by @stevie. I cannot find a reason to buy another cab that hasn’t been made by him.

EVRI's problem isn't it's individual members of staff, it's systemic DGAF attitude endemic at every level of the culture, from leadership to IT to customer service to drivers. Nice that the guy helped in this case, but he shouldn't have to, if anyone in that f***ing useless business gave a f*** about ensuring their systems actually work you wouldn't have had to dick about in the first place

Just to try and answer a few points in the thread. MIDI is not that useful on anagram at the moment. You can change banks but that’s about it so at the moment you have to use the 3 switches for scenes or stomps which is limiting. They also mentioned MIDI is not the first firmware update coming so we may still be in for a bit of a wait for proper midi functionality. ( I’ve got the Darkglass midi controller so hopefully that is easy to set up when the time comes). the SVT thing, which I think I mentioned, is clean but I think I’m confused around why this is so surprising? 300W SVTs (at least the two I’ve had) don’t break up on their own without monumental volumes so I don’t find it that surprising that the model wouldn’t have a drive section. I am absolutely not suggesting I’m correct or anything here just trying to be as clear as possible for people who are wondering about the pedal. and in term of captures, yes they reproduce amp break up very well but are still a snapshot of that tone. They reproduce break up extremely well if you have captured your gear set to break up. The machine learning is learning how the amp or pedal reacts to different signals in its current state rather than making approximations about how the gear might react if you change settings. if anyone wants anything in particular checked out on the anagram do let me know and I’ll try and help out. current set up for anyone interested

I think the Pro might have a tuner, along with some more effects, amps and cabs, but I have to say I'm delighted with my regular one. Especially since discovering I can plug it into my phone via USB C and use it to record audio for videos! I'm going to try it out with the new Fender Studio app this weekend too.

I’ve done 2 outdoor gigs so far, one being very sunny and didn’t have an issue.

Crack it open. See what's happening around the power jack. If you're lucky you could reflow the solder joints, if unlucky and the socket is actually broken then it could probably be easily replaced. If super unlucky, and the power socket is attached to a board, the board has had a mischief befall it such as a crack, a broken trace or a solder pad come away. That's less fun. You might be able to bodge around it.

I bought one back in 1998 from the Bass Centre when it was in Wapping. I had just signed a record deal and was given £5k to buy new gear. I bought a Musicman Stingray, a Hartke HA7500, a Harke 4x10 and a 1x15. I only had a little bit of money left and needed a second bass so I bought an all black Status Shark. I loved the look of it but I really didn't get on with it but that would be 100% down to me not knowing how to get the best out of it but it was a lovely bass and looked amazing.

Our EVRI driver is amazing. We usually cross paths with her when we’re out walking the dog in the morning. She will always wave us down and let us know whether she has anything for us and if she has, roughly what time she will make it to our house. A truly lovely human being.

I am so unlikely to buy (and retain) a 4 string bass, I often get annoyed that the sales area doesn't have a filter to filter only 5 strings, then I remember it would have to be me that did that and I let me off

Slightly off topic, but, I sometimes feel like an outlier, as I'm just as happy on a 4 or 5. It seems to invoke some bizarre tribalism in people, but really, it's not that big of a difference, or a difficulty to swap between the two, IMO. Whatever gets the job done. Back on topic, never had an issue selling a 5er - price is everything!

Bruce Springsteen and the mighty E Street Band last night at Co-Op Live in Manchester. Seen Bruce many times but not for a while so hoped he’d still be up for it, and he absolutely was! They played for over two and a half hours straight through, with no signs of tiredness or slowing down. As well as Bruce, incredible performances from all of the 17 piece band, especially Max Weinberg on drums and the very cool Gary W. Tallent on bass. Gary mainly used a short scale Spector, but also a Guild Starfire semi in natural which sounded immense. Nils Lofgen was also on fire, being given quite a few extended guitar solos. A great sound for such a large venue, and well organised inside too. Shame the parking was so hit and miss though - okay getting in but dreadful queues on the way out mainly caused by conflicting crowds from the Etihad stadium next door. The football crowd should have been gone before we left ( kickoff at 8pm) but in a brilliant lack of consideration there was an extra 30 mins or so added to the game ( a special leaving feature or something) which meant both arenas emptied at exactly the same time. 70,000+ people trying to get away simultaneously meant a lot of frustration for all. Then our journey home involved two lengthy diversions off the M62 so I got in around 2am. Still, an amazing evening with an amazing band, wonderful.
