  1. After loving the album since I was a kid, I've had to finally learn Diamonds On The Souls Of Her Feet for a first dance. Such a banger!

Hey my dad used to play this in the car all the time too! Fantastic album, I watched a great documentary about the making of it recently too (Under African Skies). Loved the Bass + vocals version, I never heard that before.

"I was 8 when this came out and I remember even then tuning into the bass line."

Ouch!  I was 35, but I still loved (and love) the bass line.  That is a great version @Rich, thanks!

The more I listen to this, the more I love the bassline. It's perfect. Bakithi absolutely nailed it... well let's face it, he and his knackered old Washburn bass pretty much own the whole album!

And yeah, thanks guys for making me feel so old... 👴

  2. Ooooo JoCee EP release booked at Pizza Express Jazz in Soho, never played there before :)

Oh god, I can’t wait to meet the same fate once my Wingbass is finished...

What’s the percentage they charge these days?

    4. Sibob

      Sibob

@CameronJ I ended up paying around 25% on top of the final balance (which included shipping) 😣.

More than I expected this time, however still cheaper than me getting it in the UK

  7. Don't suppose anyone in the Hemel Hempstead/High Wycombe areas has a Kala U-bass (or very similar) that I might borrow for some recording? If it gets the result I want, may well purchase one. Cheers

Stableyard Music at Hatfield House have a large range of Ukes - you'll probably have to visit them to see which are any good.

Cheers for that Mick, although hoping to borrow and record one first to see if it does what I need :)

  8. LaBella Gold Flats fitted to my Lakland 44-94......sounds great on some recordings so far! Can't wait to gig it. Here's to not changing strings ever again?! lol

      davebass66

Have you found them slightly quieter than regular nickels or flats? I loved the tone of them on my P but then output was def lower!

    3. Sibob

      Sibob

@davebass66Hmmm, can't say I've noticed a volume dip compared to the Chromes on my '71 Precision, but difficult to know what other differences are coming from the pickups etc (my 44-94 is a custom passive P/J). Not noticed anything significant going from the factory rounds it had on it to the Golds, but not to say there might have been some very minor differences, nothing my amp can't handle lol.

    4. DanEly

      DanEly

I was about to ask if you noticed a volume drop. I had a huge volume drop on my Precision. I was previously using Chromes and Rounds.

  9. First gig back tomorrow! Pretty low pressure, but still.....from someone who used to gig, at the minimum, once a week....I'm a bit anxious haha. Excited too though!

  10. Had my Serek out for a gig on Saturday just gone. While I KNOW it's an amazing bass....it never fails to surprise me how good it actually is, how fun it is. Love it! Was a fantastic gig!

My only frame of reference is a J bass from 2018 that was just over £1,100.  Had a maple blocked and bound neck that would have added a few £s to the price I guess.

You can get a Squier upgraded with a fake Fender logo on it for a couple of hundred quid.

  12. Long-shot, but anyone in South Bucks (High Wycombe way) have a Spector Euro or Rebop 4 string? I’d love to try one out!

Slightly down-market, but I have a Spector Performer (Indonesian) for £200; I'm in Bracknell.

@SibobI've got a EuroLT - Barts/Darkglass tone cap.  I'm in Crowthorne, other side of Wokingham.  About ten miles from HW.

  15. Popped a TC Spark Mini on my board so I can switch between a couple of basses with very different outputs without changing pedal settings. Perfect, super quiet, super transparent, sorted! :)

I bought a Bigshot 1/0 for similar purpose. Has tuner out too which is nice. Input 2 has a volume control I plan to use fretless on some tunes but not all so makes changing quick and slick

      Jean-Luc Pickguard

I have a TC spark mini for bits where the bass needs to be the loudest thing in the room. Great little pedal!

This is just an alternative plan B to shipping a bass 🙂. I’ll likely just post it as we’ve discussed!

      Thanks though!

  20. Lakland 44-64 sold, sad to see it go. But Moollon P incoming in April and my eye on a Precision 5...which should hopefully be with me by mid-December :D

    1. Marc S

      Marc S

ooo, looking forward to seeing your Moolon P
But if you're getting a new Moolon P... why do you want another P?
.......said the man with 4 x P basses! lol

    2. Sibob

      Sibob

    2. Sibob

      Sibob

It’s either that or an original 70’s variant of this colour scheme...which isn’t going to happen lol

  22. Missed out on an Ibanez Blazer bass on Facebook last night....and now searching around for another (I want another P style bass for tape-wounds)....someone convince me I shouldn't? lol

    1. SpondonBassed

      SpondonBassed

Do they do a double-breasted version of the Ibanez Blazer?

You want a bunch of GAS loaded Basschatters to advise you not to buy something you want? Good luck 😂

  23. 1590a Bass Overdrive with relay bypass in the house....they said it couldn't be done, Schu-Tone Pedals have done it!

    1. Daz39

      Daz39

Dim question - what's the difference with a relay bypass over the standard type?

    2. Sibob

      Sibob

@Daz39 The type of switch really. Most standard ‘true bypass’ pedals use a 3PDT mechanical footswitch, hence them being quite clunky and relatively heavy to operate. When utilising a relay bypass, the actual on/off happens within the relay, so you can use a soft-footswitch to simply send a signal telling the relay to switch the effect on/off, it’s not reliant on a mechanical action from the footswitch.

Ultimately their are pros/cons to both, and different people have different preferences, but for the particular situation I’m in, softswitch is the way to go :)

  24. Right, I know of a few people, but who's at NAMM in a couple of weeks?

    1. Rich
    2. Chownybass

      Chownybass

Yeah man! New basses. New friends!

  25. Cioks DC5 on the way to power my new 'mini' board. 12v Trickfish Minnow and 4 other 1590a 9v effects, all on a PT Nano, very cool :)

    1. TJ Spicer

      TJ Spicer

Sounds awesome! I also use a PT Nano and Cioks for my fly board - best PSU I've used to date - supreme stuff! Enjoy!

    2. prowla

      prowla

      I've got a DC-8 under my Pedaltrain.

Slightly annoying the connectors they use, but I think the choice may be because it allows them to make the case smaller.
