1.
Yes, I had it. I was fine a week later Had a great conversation with the scouser anaesthetist about the battles of Stamford bridge and Maldon
Was that his technique for putting you to sleep?
2. The weediest bloke I know had the 4x10 combo in his upstairs flat. I'm pretty sure the only time it went up and down those stairs is when he bought and sold it! TBH, the 1x15 combo isn't all that heavy. I carried it in from the street, through the crowded Jericho Tavern (Oxford) and up the stairs to the venue without putting it down, and I'm tiny! I'd have been about 50, so no spring chicken either...
3. The GP7 300W 1x15 combo I had was just the thing. Should come in well under budget. I bought and sold mine for £180 in good nick. Certainly gig-worthy.
4. Well done Bob for getting your Bass in gear this month. Hoping my belated entry will make the list.... *edit* there it is! Thanks Douglas, Eurostar!
5. Late entry alert!! Sorry, I was convinced it was the 26th for the deadline, I ciould have posted Sunday but was waiting for a new Hammond line to turn up (but it didn't ) The green fairy is on the swing, sure, but something that small should have a much faster swing, but this is filtered through the intake of half a bottle of absinthe, and everything seems a little groggy. It's what happens when la fée verte gets you. https://soundcloud.com/julian-moss-511168525/absinthe Sorry again, please add to the voting thread, pretty please?
6. In passive circuits, the value of the potentiometer is always connected between the signal (hot) and the ground, so even when the pot wiper is set to max volume, the 250 or 500k of the pot track is still connecting the pot to the ground.
7.
If you move your gear from a crowded TV room to another room, you're not wandering around. You simply moved to another room. I was under the impression that some want to wander about AS they're playing. Seems a tad daft and uneccessary
...unless you are practicing some awesome moves/ shapes too?
8. I'm awaiting some epic Hammond from my friend Steve, then I'm done. Have you seen those Ferrofish Hammond thingies? There is even an adjustment for how "worn out" the Hammond you are simulating is. Thorough! I even got a proper drummer to play on it this time!
9. I found it was just fine for this purpose, what is it you don't like, or think it lacks?
10.
Because I might have to, not because I want to I'm afraid.
I always hate to hear this. Hope you can get away without selling some of your nice gear Dood.
11. I'd love to be in a band that even suggests trying something like this.
12. That's a power diode , probably 1n4148, I'm guessing to protect against reverse polarity on the power supply
13. The size and shape of the iron'so tip can make a huge difference on the heat transfer too. A big flat bit will get the heat in quicker than a small pointy one, and as mentioned above, and big blob of molten solder on the bit will transfer heat in quickly.
14. That's what lack of oxygen to the brain does. I posted just after playing squash. I beat my boss 3-0, so I guess that's another year without a pay rise
15. I've got a rough mix done today. I will be looking at getting someone to add piano and organ before I publish, just in case it sounds better than the acoustic guitar and tremolo electric respectively. At least I'll contribute this month! I've even got a title, one for all you francophiles out there, its Absinthe (please, no "makes the heart grow fonder" jokes!)
16. I got a Saturn off Bob Palt of this parish, and was a sweet sounding guitar. I moved it on as it was just too big for me (I'm very small!) and got an Art & Lutherie Ami parlour. Pretty good for the money and louder than you might expect.
17.
I saw this at the Bracknell jazz festival in 1984.... blew my mind. 2 of my favourite bassists.
I was there too! Great stuff. I do miss those Bracknell Festivals, such a nice setting and atmosphere.
18.
The problem is, there's tort and there's tort. Most modern tort is rubbish and looks like sliced salami. The only acceptable tort is genuine period vintage tort OR Spitfire tort. The 3-D tort that looks as if you could lose yourself in it... Mmmm, real tort... https://spitfiretort...res-and-styles/ And then only on a white, cream, vintage white or sunburst bass... and possibly Shoreline or Firemist Gold under certain circumstances. Tort should never be seen on any sort of blue, black, green, purple or red bass. With the possible exception of Fiesta Red, but only if its VERY faded. Edit. IMHO, of course.
Some of the Spitfire ones do look nice, but, crikey, they are not inexpensive!
19.
Presumably the new switchable version of these cabs will remain at the same price as the "old" ones?
Why would you presume that? If there's more gubbins in it and an extra feature, I'd expect it to cost a little more, not be the same.
20. Played Ships in the Night on my first ever public gig at the tender age of 17. Happy days
21. Are you sure they are both 9V AC? I can't see why they would state centre negative if it was AC. But all other things being equal, I don't think it would quite have the power. It may only work at lower volumes, or may not start up properly if there is a lot of microprocessor gubbins in te amp. If it does work, I think the power supply would run too hot and might fail rather soon.
22. One of the tags on the volume pot isn't connected to ground properly? May be a dry solder joint if it is bent back and soldered on to the pot body.
