The older hr16 was easy to use too. They should be cheap as chips these days. You might find them advertised as faulty, as the pads can become less responsive, but this is a really easy fix!
  2. I'm sure if you made a small sealed box with a nice 8" speaker in it, that would be ideal for in the house (not too much bass extension)
  3. What a good voice your singer has fleabag, good work all round!
  4. By an odd coincidence, the tune I'm covering for the December covers challenge, was originally playing on an acoustic bass guitar: first appearance of the bass is at 0.45, and you can clearly hear a difference in sound to an electric bass guitar. Andy Metcalfe is the player here. I played our version on an electric with flats through a valve amp, and it sounds nothing like this.
  5. As few as 9 this year, 3 of those in one week, and one was a double with my band backing Anton Barbeau, and 3 as a 3- piece jam band with the hilariously mis-named Osprey's All Stars. We did have some lined up in October and November, but guitarist breaking his hand put paid to those. Really missing the band at the moment, but it could be a couple of months before we can start up again.
  6. Nice work Skol, love the use of microtones on the bass near the end! Just like I use on my backing vocals...
  7. My guitarist had the active neo in his old Takamine. He no longer has the guitar, I wonder if he still has the pup. I preferred the sound of it to his current Baggs piezo setup. The little battery lasted ages, and plenty of juice on tap.
  8. I bought a Fishman neo passive for my parlour guitar without considering the size issue. It was very slightly too big, but I got it to fit with a little bit of filing (to the pickup housing) which is not visible once fitted. The passive does have a low output, and is on the mellow side compared to piezoelectric type pickups, but doesn't have that nasty artificial-sounding attack that most piezo ones have. HTH MBA
  9. I wish I had a limber body
  10. Would this be for practicing on your own (along with mp3s) or with others? The criteria are quite different.
  11. I've just scored a SpectraComp from these very pages and looking forward to trying out all the editing options and all, but even as it is, I can see it could be a really useful tool. Even going through a tiny non-bass amp , it adds a chunkiness to the sound I can see will be appealing in a band setting. Just have to wait for my guitarist's hand to heal before I can try it out in that context.
  12. Bought a TC Spectracomp from Andy, great comms, well packaged and timely delivery. Buy with confidence! Jules
  13. I was hoping for a blue and white marbled finish that looked like a massive chunk of blue cheese! What you've done looks nice too though
  14. Discreet must feel So Lonely....
  15. Apparently, Wembley Loudspeakers offer a service where they put the magic smoke back in to loudspeakers!
  16. Yeah, women do that to me all the time!
  17. I've played through one of the cheaper TC cabs live and found it incredibly lacking in treble. It did have a nice meaty sound though.
  18. Certainly ,the BF Compact (G1 & 2) don't have the top end sizzle required at all. I'm not sure what frequency the treble control on a Shuttle acts at, but with the Compact, it made barely any audible difference. I made my own box with a tweeter in it to sit on top of the Shuttle when I felt I needed that sort of sound.
  19. Your cat looks like he quite liked that. In that nonchalant way that cats do best! Nice playing, btw.
  20. Oh yes, I can see that for you, but it's just one more step on a CNC router for the mass produced stuff. They're doing the same sort of cuts for the cavity panels anyhow...
  21. I always thought it would be a nice touch to recess the neck plate so it doesn't catch on things. Same with side mounted jack socket plates, but hardly anyone does that.
  22. I found this recently, I didn't know the guy was filming it. His name was Pier Corona, a well known face on the Oxford music scene, who sadly passed away a couple of months ago at too young an age. This is a performance of one of our older songs (it's about the poll tax riots ffs!), and features guest flautist Phil Freizinger. It's quite long and a bit of a workout for me, and incorporates a bit of the Freedom Chant, by Ritchie Havens. So, here is Freedom and Justice:
