  1. Hilarious! That's made my day, and it's only 11 o'clock!
  2. Great job all round. Everything is on point, from playing to production.
  3. A nice leather satchel would probably be a good fit for that.
  4. 70s mij stuff seems to be selling for relatively big bucks these days. I've always hated that style of tuner, it surprises me they went to the trouble to copy the rest of the bass and then just gave up on the tuners.
  5. That maple is absolutely popping! The redwood is lovely too. What a cracking looking bass!
  6. Thanks for that, i had no idea! I really enjoyed Barbican the concert. I thought Lagrene's note choices were more interesting than Ponty, though his playing was less precise. We were front row, with our own little Meyersound monitors right in front of us!
  7. Find out the size and voltage, and airflow if possible, and the collective might of Basschat will help you out, I'm sure!
  8. Alternatively, feed about 4 inches of the cable through where it enters the phones, chop off and re-solder. The cable is most likely to have broken where it enters the phones, or leaves the plug, unless you've run over it with a chair or similar.
  9. Studiospares do a replacement lead for their m1000/2000 phones. Not expensive either. Just chop the (colour coded!) plugs off the cans end https://www.studiospares.com/Headphones-and-Speakers/Headphones-Spares/Studiospares-M1000--M2000-Replacement-Cable-Lead_448765.htm
  10. U.S. Masters (r.i.p) EP42 in lacewood. I had the neck made by Masters, fretless with black epoxy for the lines. It has the Armstrong Tone Choke passive circuit with mid cut and boost at 2 different frequencies and blend for the amount of effect. Other knobs are just volume and pickup blend. Sperzel tuners.
  11. Anyone on here going tonight? He's playing with Jean Luc Pontypridd and Bireli Legrene Edit Nah, I think I'll leave it like that - almost made coffee come out of my nose!
  12. Classic water bottles-on-top-of-valve-amps fail.
  13. You could hover the bridge pickup ABOVE the strings. Some small offcuts of wood and a load of Blu-tak should do the trick. This will give you an idea of how loud it will appear, and the compliance of the blu-tak will afford some adjustment.
  14. How about a small dot of Luminlay, side dot size, slightly offset to act as an indicator?
  15. Could you wire the neck pickup in parallel, rather than series? This would on be possible if you have a 4-conductor cable coming out of the humbucker. Hth MBA
  16. Well, that was weird. I reverted the wiring, then started to desolder the cover, got bored, as i couldn't get enough heat into it, just hooked it all up again and, bingo! The output is up to what it should be. A small amount of wax had dripped out, maybe the magnetic circuit had been interrupted, who knows? I'm one happy bunny, as this simple project has been plagued by niggling issues at every turn!
  17. Is sticky backed plastic really a viable option? I imagine it's quite tricky to get the edge trimmed at the bevel to look neat.
  18. Just bought a pair of mini humbuckers for a project bass. Once fitted, the one at the bridge sounds fine, but the one in the neck only has about half the output. They measure the same d.c. resistance, so I assumed the obvious, that one coil was reverse phase, so I flipped it, about the same, or slightly worse! It seems to have about the same magnetic pull as the good one. The pickups look similar to Hofner staple type, I wonder if there are 2 magnets inside, and one is the wrong way round? I haven't opened it up yet as the cover is soldered on, but it will probably come to that soon. Anything else I've not thought of?
  19. Totally agree on the Peavey microbass, I used one at a jazz jam (provided by the double bass player) and found it totally fit for purpose. Really liked the sound of it, can't imagine anything much better for the peanuts you can get them for.
  20. I fixed a rattly one on a Squier with a dab of superglue and a nip with pliers while it was setting.
  21. Did you clean the send/return sockets too, as they can be the culprits, especially if you don't use them as your effects loop. Literally today I was informed that I had remotely "fixed" a Marshall ValveState by suggesting he put a patch lead in send/return loop. Amp whisperer, anyone?
  22. If the saddle screws are metric (quite likely ) I have a bunch of short stainless grub screws I could send you , m3 metric . They won't get rusty and be impossible to turn. Just pm me your address.
  23. That could spoil someone's gig!
