  1. Something that would sound nice with modelled acoustic guitar (Variax), e.u.b. and bassy bass (old Hofner with flats) Budget maybe £200-300? This isn't for me, it's a friend who is at home most of the time as a carer. My initial thought was a small p.a. speaker that had decent d.s.p., but that might be a bit over budget, and ott for home only use. Any thoughts?
  2. does this figure imply that the 2 drivers are 98dB sensitivity?
  3. Hope you bought him a beer!
  4. Am I the only one who read this topic title as Guest Beer at gigs? Wishful thinking or dementia, I fear
  5. Yes, that is an irritation on the gain control. If you do come up with a decent resolution to this, please let me know. I'm a bit surprised they let this carry over from a guitar amp design. If anything, I would have thought you'd want to lift the bass content a bit to keep up with the increased harmonic content you get as the distortion kicks in.
  6. I wonder if similar applies to the CTM15? I don't really care for the "subtle" and interactive nature of these vintage tone stacks. I'm sure these are used so the marketing department can roll out the "all Valve" line, rather than being useful in real-world playing situations. The fix for your CTM100 sounds worthwhile though - well done for your persistence and Ashdown's solution.
  7. Looks like you've got some very handy mates!
  8. That in itself would be a good incentive for me to get up to speed on Reaper. I've been putting it off as it was a bit of a faff to even get the Zoom set up as the audio interface...
  9. Genius. I think I saw a clip of them playing in a pub in Tring. An accomplished bunch of musos.
  10. Was that Simon, by any chance?
  11. Good luck with the gig, should be great!
  12. The guy my band has been playing behind has an alternate music path where he plays his own stuff in electronica style. He lives in Berlin, so it's probably mandatory. It's not my favourite of his output by any means, but some may like it. Anton Barbeau: Antronica.
  13. Sounds like they need to employ some more folks there. You need a break during the day. It's, like, the law, or something!
  14. Had this with a friends brand new AC30. Took a selection of valves round there and just the act of swapping his valves around fixed it.
  15. I thought Beck was great, the best introducing the band spot I've seen. This bassist Dwayne was right on the money, playing and sound. Much as I like the Breeders recorded output, the singing and guitar playing was sloppy, and I was left a bit disappointed, same as when I saw them at the town and country club years ago.
  16. I picked one of these up from Maplins when they were closing down, for £120, and so will add some thoughts. For use in the house, it has some very appealing sounds, the guitar tones with effects can sound amazingly spacious, they use some clever processing to get a very wide stereo effect. Likewise, the bass sounds are surprisingly solid for such a small unit. You can tell there is a lot of compression and d.s.p. going on to keep the tiny speakers under control, but it's really well done, and you can't get them to fart out. It also means that you can't get the bass sounds to go as loud as the guitar ones, but it never sounds nasty. Playing music through it via Bluetooth or mini jack works fine, but has a decidedly bass-heavy bias, which I fix by having a custom eq profile on my phone. Things I would like that it doesn't have: 1: a small strap handle for carting it about 2: built in rechargeable battery, this would really extend its use as a Bluetooth portable speaker of reasonable volume and quality 3: most of the bass effects are ok, but the envelope filter is pretty rubbish
  17. Love the matching stand too!
  18. Woweee, need more pics!
  19. Yeah, where's Discreet when you need him?
  20. Therein lies the mystery! Actually, its sort of slightly psyche pop, which grew out of slightly psyche acoustic, when it went electric. With a little prog in the mix. Current-ish stuff is here if you want to check my description: https://soundcloud.com/the-new-moon
  21. Yes, and very reasonable too - a snip at £150...
  22. Earnest grunge? (or was that your lead singer? )
