  1. Oh yeah, the other Hofner oddity is that the tone controls operate in the opposite sense to everyone else's, 10 is treble rolled off, 0 is wide open. Those crazy Germans!
  2. The little Ashdown ctm15 does this too, it's quite noticeable when playing quietly. I attach my d.I. box to the speaker output, and you don't really hear the hum through the balanced output to the recording interface. The speaker attaches to the d.i. parallel output, but at only 15 watts it would be easy enough to hook up a power resistor as a dummy load for recording.
  3. Ha! Coincidentally, my band Charms Against the Evil Eye has a song called Dark Matter, but it's more than 10 years old, so I definitely won't be adding that one to my entries this month!
  4. I forgot to mention, all the guitars and bass on Gardening were recorded using the direct out from the Blackstar beam (supposedly speaker emulated ) . Most of the effects were done on the unit too, except for the infinite repeat on the vocal and some of the guitar. It does introduce a bit of hiss, but I can pass that off as cosmic background radiation
  5. I bet, if you applied some wax or thin layer of oil or grease to the finish, any excess superglue wouldn't stick to that very well at all.
  6. Pleasant. The end bit brings to mind incidental music from 60s Dr Who.
  7. The other oddity I noticed was that there is no earth wire to the bridge or string anchor plate, with no noticeable adverse effect.
  8. A nice leather strap handle would really finish that off nicely. Great job!
  9. The 10 nF caps might be there to bleed off radio frequency interference? As the 100nF cap is always in series it must be a resonant circuit with the pickup inductance and the pot. Would need some helpful soul to model it for us, but as you say, it isn't a current way of doing things. I had a 60s 185 with a 70s scratch plate which was slightly different, and only had 1 volume pot iirc. I didn't sketch the circuit out as it seemed to work sort of ok!
  10. Would have been an active d.I. box most likely.
  11. At least it most likely cleans the wax out of the grille! One of my old Sennheiser sets went really muffled due to this. Could only really make out it was blocked under a microscope!
  12. I see the rha ones have a 3 year warranty, and designed in Scotland. Might give them a go (ma650) as they seem to be not bass heavy.
  13. Thanks for the recommendations chaps, keep them coming! Would you say the E10 is fairly neutral in balance then?
  14. Well, it's cat among the pigeons time again. I did a different "tune" today, thought I'd squeeze a bone fide entry in this month before I head south on me hols. Can you have two? Which to choose, some kind of play-off? Who really cares anyway?
  15. That's quite uncanny Douglas, spot on for dear old Bob! Just how I imagined, except without a pop filter ;~
  16. That sounds like a punk/prog crossover, Pronk, anyone?
  17. Ok, how about up to £50?
  18. It's hard to tell from the website as some fields are clearly not updated, probably best to email them.
  19. I've got the old Status flats on an already bright bass and they are quite bright for flats. I understand they have a new supplier now but haven't tried their current offerings, and hopefully won't need to for another 10 years or so.
  20. I'd like to hear you read it yourself, I imagine your spoken voice to be like Robert Wyatt, due to your avatar
  21. Quite a creative chap, kudos!
  22. Ha!, that honestly never occurred to me. I must be feeling slow this month.
  23. Ok, I'm in too: https://soundcloud.com/julian-moss-511168525/nothing-basschat-dub-mix
  24. Quick and dirty! I can't listen to it at work but looking forward to it!
  25. Yeah, what he said ^ With my stuff and also the band, the takes aren't usually good enough to warrant really working on perfection, and they hate doing a tune more than twice unless it has to stop cos someone dropped a total Pollock. This week, that was me, on several occasions!
