  1. Amplug and phones for me too. Lots of repetition and you're done. Listening closely to the tunes without the bass in your hands helps me to focus initially too.
  2. Is Neuro linguistic programming allowed in this thread? I think these psycho logical techniques should be banned when voting for the month's most killer tune.
  3. By the time we get to hear their tunes, they've had a massive dose of the Vulf Compressor applied. Probably.
  4. I use a small valve amp in my practice room, and find putting a compressor (TC Spectracomp, in my case), does give an appreciable increase in loudness, probably that the average power being heard is higher.
  5. Guild B301F. Had a terrible dead zone around 5th "fret", especially bad on the g string. I also felt the pickup was in the wrong place, the 302 was better suited for fretless, imho. It was well enough made, but that dead zone spoiled the fun of playing. The shape didn't do much for me either. Chopped it in for a Hohner Jack Custom which was my main bass for years, and eventually I defretted that one.
  6. Why not wire them in series? I did it with a pair of lowish output humbuckers and it sounded kinda beefy.
  7. What are you powering it with?
  8. Vibrational stress.
  9. It's a bit Goth.
  10. Would that qualify as a piercing?
  11. The upper horn is longer than usual and elicits a certain response in some bass spods.
  12. Slightly too small if you check the dims?
  13. Squier Bronco, cheap as chips second hand, really easy to play.
  14. Ok, I did some mixing yesterday, and as has been reported in some of the reviews on Studiospares website, the "politeness" in the treble can lead to missing some detail in the mix. I switched to my old Sennheiser 202 cheapies, which are more bass and treble emphasised, and though the overall signal showed more distortion, it did pull out some detail on reverb on the drum overheads that I didn't like, that I had missed using the m2000s. It's almost the headphone equivalent of using ns10 monitors to check the mix vs proper studio monitors.
  15. I may have missed this in the topic, but what gauge did you go for on the low B string, and what is the tension like at that scale? Lovely work again Andy!
  16. Normally one would tighten the truss rod to straighten the neck. Rightly-tighty!
  17. Just been sent the code REC10 to use at checkout for an extra 10% off - keeps getting better! I don't really need any more sets, but I'm still tempted!
  18. You could do worse than the Studiospares m2000 I mentioned in another thread in this section. They are quite boring sounding, but quite flat for that type of money(currently down from £69 to £29), and mixes sound pretty good on other phones. I listened to one of my recent mixes today on a colleagues pair of Monster DNA phones and was very impressed by the detail and openness. They weren't hyped in the bass and the mids and top end imaged nice and clearly. They're about £80, watch out for fakes at a too-good-to-be-true price though! I also record on an R24! I can't say from experience how well it drives higher impedance phones, I also use a Studiospares 4-way headphone amp for live tracking with the band, and that has plenty of oomph on tap. The mono switch is useful too. HTH MBA
  19. Give it a few days and come back to it, then it will seem like someone else has done all the guitar tracks for you!
  20. new heads up, they are now down to £29, an absolute steal! Thank me later! MBA
  21. This is the entry, I think! I was going to mix it again and add some more vocals, but my guitarist put the rough mix up on our band SoundCloud already. So, it may get tweaked if I find time, or this will be it. This was the second take, as the tempo first time through was "wrong", apparently, bass-warts n all! Irie-Psychokiller
  22. Don't worry Douglas, we're used to it by now
  23. It won't be ptfe, more likely ldpe, low density polyethylene.
