Made 2021, bought by someone to use as a beginner bass, but soon put away and forgotten until I picked it up early this year. It has the original strings, which desperately need changing. There are a few little handling marks here and there which I've done my best to show up on photos, but it is otherwise as close to new as I've ever found in a second hand bass. Only selling as I've got my dream bass from a friend but I've now got to pay him! Comes with a Gear for Music hardcase which is also in near mint condition. Collection from Bristol preferred. Price dropped to 275, going to say no offers just so I've an excuse to keep it if no nibbles...7 points -
Hi folks, Selling Sire V7 2nd gen in Lake Placide blue color. The thing is as new bar that tiny scratch/scuff at the back which looks worse in the picture than in reality is, and if you look very carefully you may find some tiny marks i can't even see.. Simply, in excellent condition.. I am a second owner, the bass was brought from France by 1st owner because he could not get this color here in UK that time (that's what i was told.)So he paid duties on the top of purchasing price.. Replaced the knobs by something from Guyker from Aliexpress if memory serves me well (the stacked ones), the solo ones are just plain dumb knobs you just slide on to the shaft. I may even have the original ugly ones lying around somewhere if you desperately need them.. DR Black Beauties on it, must be plenty of life left in them given that i own basses but don't know how to properly play them Not in a hurry to sell it but it just sits in the stand as i got myself something from much higher range & make. That's not to say this is bad bass and you know how good this stuff is anyway..I've got another one, 1st gen V7, i bought off Basschat members years ago that i still keep.. Collection only as i can't see myself posting it, unable to pack etc.. But could deliver to Warwickshire or places around (not too far) as i do go there on occasions. Price drop to £310, it's on the eBay too but there it adds up a bit due to protection fee or whatever it is..6 points -
This is why I won't spend six grand on a bass - because I can spend about 1/20th of that on this kind of thing instead. 1998 DeArmond Jet Star "Spel", Gumby, Dali, melty - whatever you want to call it. It just made me laugh so much I had to buy it. This example is in good nick, the only issue is that the knobs have disintegrated a little and the silver "D" discs in the top are long gone. Anecdotally, this was a common issue - seen a bunch of them online with replaced knobs. This is the long scale (34") bolt on version. The short scale one is fancier (two pickups, set neck) but I don't dig shorties so it had to be this one. Honestly I'd have loved a green one, but they're rare as hell, so a cherry red one is an acceptable alternative. Hard to photograph with the phone camera - the cherry red is much deeper than this and you can see the wood grain through it - phone just doesn't have a clue and goes "duh, it's red". Nevertheless, here it is. I've only played it in headphones and my office amp (Laney 30W HCM30B) so far, with whatever scabby strings it arrive with. But even with that stacked against it, it sounded pretty good - the split P pickup being more towards the bridge makes for an interesting sound, not completely devoid of bottom end and P-esque, but just a bit twangier or something. I've since given it the once over - a good clean, lemon oiled the fretboard (it was so dry!), restringed and setup fettled with. Here it is when it first arrived next to one of my T-birds. I have a bass from the Bass Centre in Wapping too. At that time I was attending Saturday classes at the music school that used to operate from upstairs in the same building and afterwards used to pop downstairs to drool over the gear in the Bass Centre. The one fateful Saturday I saw my dream bass hanging on the wall: a MusicMan Cutlass 1 with the Modulus graphite neck! My grandad had recently died and left me some money in his will and it was exactly enough to buy the bass so I put a small deposit down on it and returned on the following Monday to collect it. I still have that bass and it is still my most prized possession. Fascinating factoid: I recently found out, thanks to Gavin who runs the MusicMan serial numbers website, that my Cutlass was previously owned by Mark O'Toole from Frankie Goes To Hollywood. He bought it new from Manny's Guitars in New York CIty in 1985. I know this as Gav send me a pic of the original sales receipt and some backstage shots of my bass - how he got hold of them is anyone's guess!6 points

I had a decent play of it last night (as in through a "proper" amp - TC Electronic BH250) but still in headphones. What an interesting experience! I found a very useable tone control - almost like an active control in the sense that to my ears the "home" position is about half way - this is where the bass does its best P-bass impression. You can still turn it to zero for some dubby goodness, but if you turn it to 10, it unleashes some borderline obnoxious mids, which I'm betting will cut through great live. In a world where the vast majority of time I've got a passive tone control wide open, this is an unusual but welcome development which I have not encountered before. Their choice of 500k pots in this might be part of the reason why this is happening (I would guess 250k is typical on your average P bass?) Anyway, TL:DR, it sounds gud and I can't wait to give it a proper razz in a band context.5 points

After a wait of nearly four years my Sadowsky Metroline was delivered this week. It was a custom order as they didn't do a left hander with this specification. I think they have added it to the catalogue now though. Initial impressions are very good and it is slightly lighter than my four string Fender jazz.5 points

Looks like a potentially decent bunch of new shorties from Eastcoast. There aren't any videos about them yet that I've seen. I don't think much of the headstock personally. Look up Tuff Cab paint from Blue Aran applied by roller it gives a fantastic professional finish and is genuinely tough as you'll find out if you ever have to sand it off. It'll also be ideal for renvating your 2x10 and a can will probably do all three cabs.4 points

I bought this lovely instrument here on BC from Jamie (AKA jay-syncro) back in mid-February this year, with the intention of using it as a touring replacement for my Fender Jazz. However, after living with it for a good while, I find that I still prefer the Fender overall, and so I’d rather move this on and find it a home where it will be used and appreciated. As you can see, it’s clearly no case queen, and has been gigged a lot over the last 23 years (I haven’t added any additional marks of my own though!). However, it is a lovely player, and has beautiful classic Jazz tone for days from the Lindy Fralin pickups that were fitted as standard for this era and model of Lakland bass. Since owning it, I have had a set-up and light fret dress done by Phill Orme of Doghouse Guitar Repairs, restrung it with brand-new D’addario Chromes ECB-82 flats, and I’ve had the previously crackly pots cleaned and serviced. It plays beautifully. I renewed the Dunlop Dual straplock buttons with a fresh new set, and will include an as-new premium black suede strap fitted with corresponding Dunlop straplocks in the sale. Also included is a classic tweed Fender hard case in very good condition… a nice upgrade on the case I bought it with, and perfect for shipping in if required. The weight of this is just over 4.4KG, or 9.7lbs. I’m looking for a very reasonable £1700 for this… no offers or trades please! Let me pick up here. I'd always thought setting one of these up should be pretty straightforward and I have capacity. @prowla (Paul) has just been in contact - we're local to each other AND both @jonno1981 and @ceteralive about a mile from me. How would everyone feel if me and @prowla tried to sort something out? Proposal would be (possibly) St Sebastians Memorial Hall, Crowthorne (see details below). There's a map/link below. We'd need to hire for say six hours (10-4pm) on a Saturday @ £25.00 an hour. I honestly can't remember what Colin used to charge for entry (was it £10?), so 15 attendees and we'd have a enough to cover the hire fee. I'm sure we could rope on the Barry at the Bass Centre and get enough stuff together for a raffle etc. It's a big room and it has a little stage if we do another shoot-out etc. The hall is remore enough so as not to annoy people. Easy connections M3/M4, closest train is Crowthorne (on the Wokingham and Guildford mainline). I'd be happy to do pickups from the station (I'm sure others would as well. @neepheid (I think) may be kipping down at mine. Continuing my post-midlife crisis 'straying from Precisions' period, I couldn't resist this absolute stunner over the weekend. Just... look at it. It's a 1998 model, and was actually the L-2000 they used in the catalogue that year. A couple of honest dings here an there, but otherwise spot-on. I'll be gigging it on Friday.3 points

Time to move this on. This is a Gear4Music LA Select bass. It is a P bass, with a bound body, 21 fret lightly roasted maple neck. Comes with the originally supplied gig bag (not a fantastic bag, but it's better than nothing). Yes, new, they are £150. But, hear me out - this one comes with the following: A Lace Aluma P pickup Grover mini tuners (the stock tuners were garbage - I wouldn't inflict that on anyone - they went straight in the bin) A triple string retainer The ratty fret ends taken care of I'll even throw in a generic split P pickup if you want to steal the Lace for something else. Would prefer a local sale (ha, Aberdeen, good luck with that), but can post at buyer's expense.2 points -

I was looking for a 5 string P bass for a project band a couple of years ago and ended up with a Yamaha BB425x instead. It does the P & PJ bass thing very well and is very playable. And it was ridiculously cheap - around £300 second hand! Thoroughly recommended.2 points

Saw this earlier today Mick. Apparently the audience were all in the venue ( 23,000 of them! ) when they made the announcement at 8.15pm that Jeff wouldn’t be doing the gig. I think that’s leaving it a bit late TBH, especially as he had been having problems at the previous gig, leaving the stage with assistance etc. People were coming from all over the UK, as well as Europe and the US for the gig - I just hope they can reclaim some of the costs involved ( hotels / flights / travel etc ) as well as get a refund on the tickets. Hyde Park this Sunday does indeed look doubtful too. May I just add that I hope Jeff makes a full recovery as soon as possible - he was quoted as being ’devastated’ for having to cancel the gig. With his broken wrist to cope with as well, this isn’t the swan song anybody wanted. Such a shame.2 points

I disagree. This is what has been missing from Bass Bashes. A really good cage match. Maybe we can skip the cab shootout to move on to a duel at 10 paces? This could be a major selling point. Someone turns up with a Musicman Sabre not realising that they should have brought an actual sabre for the afternoon events. Someone asks "is it good for metal?" and is immediately required to fight Rhonda Rousey whilst playing Mr Pink by Level 42. This is the future where the "bash" in the event title may mean something else. It's a winner.2 points

I've joined a Wolverhampton based originals band very much on the rock end of Americana. Influences are Wilco, Jason Isbell, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty etc. We're called Silver Pines. I'm playing some of the most interesting music I've ever played, with one of the best guitarists I've worked with, and they are all lovely human beings!! Nothing to share yet, but you will all be among the first to know when I do.2 points
