  1. Update, as I am sure all you kind donors will want to know the money is on it's way to help Andy, Iris and family. So I pressed the button on withdrawing the available balance yesterday (NB, not all the funds had yet cleared to JG, as some were donated by credit card) and it will take 4-6 working days to land. So with luck, the vast majority of the balance will be with Andy around the end of this week. I will then withdraw the remaining balance, plus any new donations, and discuss with Andy how much longer to let this run. Thanks again to everyone ... that's around 250 people pulling together to help 😍

  5. Another weekend, another new venue. Played at the Railway Club in Keith last night with Nine Lives. Have you ever rocked up to a venue, only to wonder if it's even open? We feared the worst when the drummer and I arrived first and parked up outside. Tiny door which looks like it should be a side door or something turns out is the main door - pub is actually upstairs. Ugh, stairs, where are the roadies when you need them? So we recce the place and it's empty - save for a guy at the bar with an acoustic guitar playing it, who turned out to be someone we auditioned to be our singer but rejected. I did wonder if this would be awkward. Thankfully, it was not - he was bang up for a good night and came up and said hi afterwards, no hard feelings, good vibes only. Anyhoo, we get set up and just before we start, some people thankfully came in and it grew from there. Turns out there was some sort of fireworks display that night which explains the absence of folk at the start of the evening. It quickly filled up, ended up with a good crowd - it's not a big place by any means but the beauty of that meant that the 40-ish folk who were there seemed like way more. We had a fantastic sound, place was tiny so I didn't even bother with the PA, just used my bass rig to provide the boom on its own. We played really well, no major bloopers. Got lots of good feedback after and the landlord was impressed so hopefully we'll be back. It's a bit of a trek, but I'll travel far to play to an enthusiastic and appreciative audience. Gear: Sire D5 then Squier Jag H (or the ATJ as someone suggested on LowEndLobster's discord server), into the Markbass terrible twosome.

  6. Nice little stripped down acoustic gig up in the wilds of Northumberland at the fantastic Star Inn Harbottle. Despite my Satnav taking me on a magical mystery tour it was a great night, and booked back for two gigs next year - job done 😎

  8. I’m having a big clear-out, so up for grabs is one of Martin Peterson’s beautiful hand-made creations, a Sei Jazz 5-string. I picked it up on here earlier this year, and as lovely as it is, I just find myself gravitating back to my extra-long scale Laklands, so I’ve decided to move it on. NOW SOLD

  9. Because you’re staying in the same room for a couple of nights, from my experience of Premier Inns it is unlikely any staff will be entering it to tidy / make the bed etc until you check out. Obviously leaving your basses unattended anywhere does involve a certain amount of risk, but I’d still go with the hotel over leaving them in a vehicle. Put them upright in the wardrobe section, behind some clothes if possible and leave the ‘do not disturb’ notice on the door handle. Leave the TV on too, just loud enough for anyone in the corridor to think there’s someone in the room. I think you would then be extremely unlikely to have any problems.

  10. Shakespeare North with the Mighty Wah last night - spectacular venue, lovely staff, amazing audience and we (primed by a run of support slots) played a blinder. Eldest daughter brought her German exchange partner with her - Christ knows what she made of it all. I had a bit of revelation re my always reticent bvs - whack the monitor volume up an just go for it seems to be the way forward. I used the lovely Jap P bass I bought through here a couple of months back and rather than doing my usual swapping between pick and fingers depending on the song, just used a plectrum throughout. I expect my tone was admirably consistent but I've inflicted a couple of areas of bass burn on my right hand in the process. I only want to do gigs in posh theatres from now on.

  11. We played the Apple and Parrott in Torquay last night. They have their own PA, lights and sound guy which is great. I also park at work which is a 1 minute walk away. It started off a bit quieter than usual but really kicked off in the second set with the audience getting right into it. It was mostly the guys going for it, and a couple of them had some nice words to say afterwards. The sound out front is great, but the stage sound is aways odd. They were a monitor down and it was difficult hear the guitar. Even he was struggling to hear himself. I could hear myself ok but not so much through my rig, but the PA itself, which was pretty epic. At the end of the night I took some of the audience. Another fun night.

  12. Hey 👋 Just thought I'd show some of my basses I use for wedding gigs! Happy to answer and questions about the process 1. Pink Hawaiian print, no real story behind it but I love pink basses! 2. My take on George Harrison's rocky, the Fookin Ell is an in joke with my drummer that helps ease the pain of a 4 hour drive at 2am! Go Pigs Go is a little tribute to my bulldogs. 3. I rarely use the jazz-bird because of a shoulder injury but it's a monster. The cow print seemed like a good idea at the time?? 4. Nothing special here just rattle can pink over green which has worn through. This is my number 1 gigging bass as it plays great and weighs nothing! It's fast approaching 100 outings Hope you enjoy!

  15. My main board for weddings and other events Shure wireless goes into a Broughton HPF (underneath) then to the dyna-saur. The signal them splits (underneath again) with a JHS splitter with a clean signal going to a Harley Benton Magnum DI to front of house and our IEMs, another signal path goes to the MXR octave, bass crybaby (with custom edge lord graphics) mxr el grande fuzz, way huge pork loin for grit and the dark glass for when things get a bit silly! This all gets sent to my Aguilar Ag700 straight into the ears, cockles and sub-cockle regions of pissed up party goers We do a wide range of covers and so far it's ticked all the boxes. Love temple audio boards but but the mounting plate system is totally over engineered in my opinion so it's long been swapped for 3M dual lock

  16. @Richard R I've redesigned the pedal tops so they are now fully parametric. This means all the parameters are controlled from a set of variables that are easily changed. What this means is that you can now have the diameter you like, the height you like, the ability to fit any sized foot switch, many seem to be 10mm though the Mod Dwarf is 8.75mm in size, smooth top or concentric circles or if you do a larger donation, I'll put a unique (ish) design on top. So if you need pedal tops, and would like something a bit different, let me know. Here's a smooth top version, and a small version (diameter and height) that fits an 8.75mm footswitch. Thanks Rob

  17. 16/3/25 - WITHDRAWN I am in the process of having a new ACG 5 string being built, and when that arrives in 2025 I’ll need at least one, if not both my existing 5 strings to make way. Therefore both this and my gorgeous Zoot Funkmeister are up for sale. Ultimately I’m not 100% sure which bass I want to sell but I am sure at least one has to go. So I will let the market decide. If the Zoot goes first, this stays, or if this goes first, the Zoot stays. Or if someone wants a deal on both, we can sort something out! This was commissioned in 2018 and arrived in 2019, on the back of learning a lot from a previous Finn 5 and Finn 4 commission, and was designed to be a clean hi fi bass for a function band. It absolutely nails that brief, and the neck profile along with the smooth satin-esque polymer oil finish is a delight. It’s lightweight and easy to play and has led me to finally cave and create my “ultimate” RetoB 5 spec with a holly top. Specs: 5 string, 32” scale 2-piece swamp ash body 5-piece maple/bubinga neck Acrylic impregnated maple board 4+1 headstock with maple veneer ACG FB pickups East Uni Pre 4K circuit with passive tone Hipshot A-type bridge with 16.5mm string spacing 45mm nut Gotoh resolite tuners Neutrik locking jack Schaller strap locks 3.6kg https://acguitars.co.uk/project/0343finn5/ It’s been cosseted its whole life, so is in pretty close to perfect nick. It does have a couple of natural imperfections in the woods which I mention for full disclosure, but they are natural rather than caused by me being a clumsy oaf. There is a small nick in the top of the bridge pickup cover too, which has been there since birth and in no way affects anything. I presume it was just a slightly dodgy moulding of the plastic case. No gig bag included at this price coz it’s a bargain. Collection only, or could arrange a convenient place to meet within around 45-60 mins max from me. Bank transfer upon meeting is preferred method of payment. No trades for the reasons explained above.

  18. This story I’ve repeated elsewhere but I think it’s worth putting on here as well. 2001 Ltd Edition Thumb BO. Sometimes, only sometimes, “the one that got away” swims straight back into your net. I bought this bass in 2003, brand new (despite its year). Gigged with it loads in London, recorded an album.., and then traded it in 2011/12 (not sure) for a Stingray. It quickly went to the top of the list in my head of basses I’d wished I’d never got rid of. And then… it appeared up for sale , on Facebook, this week. Mind blown, messages sent and received, confirmation made, bass purchased. I am so happy. And it’s the beautiful beast of a bass that I remember and with 12 years or so having passed, an instrument I can now appreciate more and make sound even better.

  22. Wasn't sure where to post this but i have a set of Trace Elliot cuff links and pin badge in a presentation box if anyone wants them. I'm not really a big fan of TE but they were given to me by a famous drummer that had no use for them. He just seemed to collect a lot of this stuff during his travels. If anyone interested give me a shout, send your address and i'll post them to you. I had to put a £1 value in the box to post on here but they are free. Dave

  23. We organised Islamabad's biggest (and only!) open air music festival this weekend. Actually a very modest affair, I got 5 bands to play (there's only 6 bands here!), food vendors and fireworks although we couldn't do a bonfire as the pollution is so bad at the moment we were told we couldn't add to it. We held it on our football pitch and sold 300 tickets, for here not a bad turn out. Plus we put out bouncy castles and stuff for the kids, so quite chilled out. I'm in three of the bands, only hiccup was our punk band had to drop out at the very minute as our guitarist ended up in hospital with an IV for fluids... a bad case of 'pak-attack' that left him dangerously dehydrated. The Hendrix band went down particularly well as did our soul-blues band, had loads of fun playing those sets. Finished off the night with a band that uses backing tracks and plays all the disco hits. A great way to finish the evening with plenty of dancing and went for two and half hours straight. They're real pros, they get the audience going and keeping the energy there.

  24. due to not having done a gig for two years now - and having no inlination to do any - I guess I can say I'm retired from gigs now so, it's time to let go of a few of my basses. also for sale on this site are: Musicm`n Stingray 1989 Chowny SWB-1 short scale bass Markbass tube head Markbass transporter 2x10. 1980 Rickenbacker 4001 Fireglo. All original, except for a couple of the screws/washers for the machine heads Near mint condition for a 44 year old bass. Currently strung with round wound strings but can supply the flats that came with it too. Selling because am not planning to do any more live gigs. Hard Case is slightly tatty but closes fine, no key. Some tarnishing on the tuner heads and a bit of rust on the input jack but all other metal parts are pristine. Serial number TK4667 dates it to November 1980. Neck is straight, action is great Everything works as it should, including the Rick-o-Sound stereo outputs. I'm not desperate to sell quickly, but will negotiate if you have a very close offer in mind. Would rather not post, but can do that fully insured and packed up tight in the hard case. Happy to deliver/meet within about 30 miles. prefer pick up or meet up but can ship, at buyer's expense, in case and I have a box. can be tried out with my MB rig (unless it sells first) Any questions please ask.

  29. Board no. 2 for rehearsals and smaller settings is still a work in progress. The only pedals on here I'm 100% happy with are the tuner and the Melvin Lee, I'd consider the comp and dim-glass as placeholders. The positive is the top level metalworking that went into dremel-ing out a kettle lead plug into the rockboard!

  30. I keep coming back to this thread as a little place of solace and light in an increasingly cr@ppy world Tried to explain it to wifey who is the worlds biggest cynic and I was expecting the ghost of her mother's derisive snort to rear it's head. Actually I never got past "there's this bass for sale ad on BC at the moment..." and got no further. She's currently expecting a parcel with another bass in it to arrive any day now

  33. Is hotel room burglary really much of a problem nowadays? I don't see the issue really. Things would be much safer in a hotel room which requires keycard access (and also possibly lift access) than in a car on display for all to see.

  34. I'm a Jazz Bass guy. I like Fenders. I like plain finishes, not too flashy. I like rosewood fretboards. I like passive basses. So, why not buy a Sterling Ray34 with a roasted maple neck and a blue sparkle finish?

  35. Bridging (internally) on class D amps is done for very different reasons. It allows reactive energy stored in the electro magnetic field of the voice coil moving within the motor to be transferred to the the opposing rail(s) of the power supply rather than to be dissipated as heat. This improved efficiency.

  36. Ouch. That gives some perspective. I'm "happy" that you at least have had the energy to have filed that complaint in your circumstances, as they do need to be confronted with their doings. As to the mad bonkers stuff, I think that the lads and lasses of BC are just happy to be able to contribute a little; it's not only about feeling with your situation, but also about who we want to see in the mirror at the end of the day. Anyway, all the best of luck! bert

  40. I thought I was building a mini board for mainly Bass VI, but I can fit on more mini pedals than I thought I could. On the way, it's turned in to an "affordaboard" where I'm trying out cheap mini pedals: Changes since the previous iteration: Boss MD-200 replaced by my Lekato Loop Auto and a new Donner Mod Square II. Not the greatest modulation effects but I'm not a heavy modulation user. I've never had a Flanger before, and am trying that at the moment: Flanger I is milder than Flanger II etc. The legends don't align with the knob and it's more "set & forget" for a bit of flavour. I did a NBD post about the NUX Sculpture, which I quite like so far. Very clean in Normal Mode, definitely provides smooth sustain. I haven't felt the need to dial back the Blend, on full it's not taking anything away. The Clip mode is mild and wouldn't even be called "overdrive": it colours the sound slightly, at least the way I have it all set. Could be handy in combination with the Mosky Silver Horse also doing a mild overdrive. The ToneX One pedal is still great, I currently have The Fridge (Ampeg SVT) and a Fender Bassman into 1x15" as the two switchable preset models. I won't use this if hook the board to an amp. I'm having problems with my IK Product Manager account, though: it's lost the pedal registration and so won't let me use the Librarian any more to load the pedal. I'm on to support, will see what they say. What next? I might put the Mooer Soul Shiver back on as a second modulation stage. Or I might look for a mini octaver for the space up front, though I don't think octave works as well on Bass VI. I might put the larger T-Rex Diva Drive on this board in place of the Fuzz. The Marks & Spencer Curiously Strong Mints tin for plectrums doesn't really fit. How am I supposed to show off my middle class credentials if I can't have that?

  41. After getting no response from people selling a Sadowsky Metro and lovely 1984 Tokai Sound, I spotted a MIM Fender Player II which I don't think has been played, its still got the cellophane on the pickups, tuners, pickguard and control plate and its £250 less than rrp sp I bought it.

  42. It did indeed keep up with the blowers, sounded great, had some volume to spare and got lots of admiring comments which is the main thing, right? Disclaimer: I used the Sansamp VTDI in front of it, which really does elevate it - more punch and a noticeably better sound IMHO. It's no slouch on its own TBF!

  49. @Cliff Edge every cloud… Well now’s the time to put out a full description of it on BC. Someone here might have seen, or be playing it. Maybe Basschat should start a One The Got Away thread where BCers can give a full description of an instrument and where it was last seen. I’d imagine that there’s plenty of us who peruse the internet looking at basses for sale (when we should be practicing!). Might have some success.
