bailerlove9 Posted Sunday at 16:12 Posted Sunday at 16:12 I’ve just adopted a tiny ball of chaos who’s been zooming around my apartment like he owns the place (and currently thinks my bass strings are cat toys). I’m totally stuck on what to name him. I want something meaningful, not just a random name that pops into my head at 2 a.m. I lost an older cat earlier this year, so I’m looking for a name that feels special, maybe even a little symbolic, but still fun and easy to yell when he’s trying to claw the curtains or my gear. Since we have so many creative minds here, I’m curious: how do you all pick names that actually "resonate" and feel right? Do you have any specific rituals, or maybe music-related themes you stick to? I'm torn between something classic and something that fits his high-energy personality. Would love to hear your suggestions or how you named your own pets! Quote
SteveXFR Posted Sunday at 16:21 Posted Sunday at 16:21 Our last cat had absolutely no personality so she was called Tiddles because it was the most generic, unimaginative cat I could think of. One of our dogs is Roxy because the rescue home named her. The other is Vinny because he was really weedy and scared of everything so I went for a tough sounding dog name. He's still scared of everything. Quote
Lozz196 Posted Sunday at 16:44 Posted Sunday at 16:44 I’m considering getting a cat when I retire, if I do I’m going to call it Hippo, give it an identity crisis. Quote
ezbass Posted Sunday at 18:30 Posted Sunday at 18:30 Studio assistant? Wrong, this is a cat, it’s a producer in its own mind, you’re just the help. With that in mind, Trevor as in Horn. 1 Quote
Downunderwonder Posted Sunday at 18:48 Posted Sunday at 18:48 Alex as in Horn? He's the TaskMaster's assistant but in his mind he runs the show. Quote
ezbass Posted Sunday at 18:59 Posted Sunday at 18:59 (edited) More producer ideas, more animal centric, albeit normally canine (I’m not being doggist about it though): Butch (Vig) Mutt (Lange) Edited Sunday at 19:00 by ezbass Quote

fretmeister Posted Sunday at 21:27 Posted Sunday at 21:27 Rubin. because the little sod will randomly wander around the studio, occasionally make a bit of noise, and then claim all the credit. 4 Quote
Grahambythesea Posted Sunday at 22:28 Posted Sunday at 22:28 Is it male or female? Choose between Hedepuss or Shedepuss. Quote
Richard R Posted yesterday at 06:43 Posted yesterday at 06:43 (edited) Our first cat was tortoiseshell, so was named Pickle as she looked like a jar of Branston. The next was Jet as she was black. This one was named Pandora by the rescue home, shortened to Panda by us. Trevor (as in Horn) sounds like the perfect name for your cat already. Thinks he owns the place and is in charge, everyone eles will think he's wonderful, but you pay the bills! Edited yesterday at 06:43 by Richard R Quote

Dom in Dorset Posted yesterday at 07:08 Posted yesterday at 07:08 We had a cat called Artie Fufkin named after the enthusiastic but ultimately useless record company guy from Spinal Tapp. It really suited him. Current felines were given country music themed names Dolly and Tammy. Quote
RogerDodger Posted yesterday at 07:10 Posted yesterday at 07:10 Sounds like he already has a name - Studio, Studio Assistant. Quote
Geek99 Posted yesterday at 07:25 Posted yesterday at 07:25 Tom? As in tom and Jerry then you can yell “Thomas!” At him when he is naughty Quote
WinterMute Posted yesterday at 11:41 Posted yesterday at 11:41 No point in naming an animal if it won't come when you call. Cats have their own names and they'll never tell. That said, Pixel is my favoured name for small felines, after The Cat Who Walks Through Walls. Quote
synthaside Posted yesterday at 13:48 Posted yesterday at 13:48 In our household have poor precedent for names ... but like @WinterMute suggests that TS Elliott would argue that a cat would never tell. Our first cat was called Catbert ... after the Dilbert comics " evil director of human resources " We now Have , Sebastian and Ryan ... who are ginger brothers ... and Misha who is a Huge white Siberian forest cat ... ( "Misha russian for little bear) Do you want to go with a music related name ... maybe " capo" ... because its always in the way when you dont need it but never around when you do 😉 1 Quote
tauzero Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Pike. Then, if someone says to him "What your name?", you say "Don't tell him, Pike". Amend "him" as appropriate. Mine were all named after motorcycles. Spitfire, Hurricane, Tona (short for Daytona), Blaza (Trailblazer), Phoenix, Trophy, Bonnie. The current two are Pixie and Dotty (Pixie was named Penny by the shelter but Pixie suited her better), which have accidentally also corresponded with motorcycles - Ariel Pixie and the DOT brand. Bolo Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Sklar, after the Lion King s nefarious relative and the very productive Lee Sklar. Bass player reference plus famous cat reference. Otherwise just name him after your neighbour, always fun to confuse the postman. Quote

BassTractor Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Neighbours' cats are called Limp and Bizkit. No resonance though, or music-related theme. 😉 1 Quote
tauzero Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago If you happen to like science fiction and fantasy, there's a few cats in SF. Heinlein comes to mind, and after checking, there's Pixel, Pirate, Petronius the Arbiter (aka Pete), Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, Miss Polka Dot Ma’am (aka Miss Pokie), Dr.-Livingston-I-Presume, El Diablo, Mama Cat, and Mister Underfoot (some of these are excluded due to gender issues). There's Mr Jones in Alien. And there's also Greebo in various Terry Pratchett books. If he's scrabbling at furniture, how about Scrabble? And for the sake of your curtains and furniture, get a scratching post. Ours have a couple of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354335902612?var=623735626888 and there's very little scratching at furniture and gig bags. Quote
