Good afternoon

Another edit here (16/10/25).  Please read this and treat as pinned content.

The honourable member for the Bracknell @prowla (aka Paul) and myself (also Paul...blame Mr McCartney) are happy to announce that the SE Bass Basheroonie is confirmed for Sunday 9th November 2025 (from 11.00am to 5.00pm) at St Sebastian's Memorial Hall, Crowthorne, Berkshire.  We have the whole site (main room (which has a small stage) and a side suite), so the whole place is ours for the day.  Gary/@cetera has also come on board, too.

The site has decent parking, good connections with M3/M4.  Closest rail connection is Crowthorne (which is on the Guildford > Reading branch line) or Wokingham (Waterloo > Reading), but I'm advised (inevitably) there's rail engineering works scheduled in the area that weekend, so please check online.  I'm more than happy to pick up/drop off at either station, but I would prefer not to keep shuttling people back and forth.

@prowla has offered to visit CostCo the day before to load up on cakes, coffee, tea, milk, paper cups and plates.  We'll operate a CASH honesty box for these.

This is the place:

++++++++++++++

We're proposing the usual £10.00 entry per person.  PLEASE BRING CASH.  You'll get a sticker on entry, please put your name on it and wear it for exit/re-entry (this will also be useful for identifying people!).  We're hoping to do a raffle if we have enough donations (please find some stuff you're prepared to let go for the raffle table) and of course there'll be a sale table (please mark your sale kit up with a swing tag of some kind with name/price).  Please note (as usual), this is a private event open to Basschat members and their guest(s), and we will categorically not be letting any local oiks in.  It goes without saying, please be vigilant.

Next up, it's two rooms in a village hall, so please respect your volume and be considerate of other members around you.  Yes, we all know you're proud of your earth-shaking SVT and 8x10 fridge, but this is a small hall and 300w of valve-powered bass tone is going to melt the face off the guy next to you, so please try to restrain your rig.  We are not currently aware of plugs/sockets situation (hopefully adequate) etc, so please bring an extension cable.

++++++++++++++++

Moving on to a (fluid) schedule:

12.00pm
Matt Gleeson from Monty's Guitars (https://www.montysguitars.com) will be talking all things pickups/looms.  (Mike Brooks hosting/playing.)

1.00pm
Phil Starr will be doing a cabinet shoot out.

2.00pm
Q&A with Chris Childs (Thunder, Tyketto, Union)  (Mike Brooks hosting):

chris-childs-live-1200x550.jpg

3.00pm
Another enthralling round of What's That Bass?, the legendary blind bass shoot-out.  This will be hosted by Yours Truly and Gary @cetera on the bass.  Ideally, we need 10-15 basses.  Bring pens!

4.00pm
Hopefully raffle, closing poop.

5.00pm
Go home you lot.  It's dark out.

++++++++++++++

As we're a bit new to this, we'd be grateful for your patience/understanding if things go wrong.  Any input insofar as guest speakers goes and any ideas for input; I've emailed Lee Voss, Steve Lawson, Barry at The Bass Centre, Alex at Barefaced and D'Addario, Gary is working on Lee Pomeroy (all hail).  While I'm uncertain at this juncture whether he'll attend, I am in contact with the wonderful Colin Moulding of XTC - he declined earlier in the year and asked that I contact him nearer the date.  I'm a bit of a fanboy, so it would be superb if he could attend.

++++++++++++++

In closing, we're obviously looking to break even and make a profit from this.  @prowla and I have agreed that any proceeds over our costs will go to COATs (Crowthorne Old Age & Teens) of Crowthorne, where I volunteer weekly.  COATs have a well run shop, a lovely day centre on the edge of the village and they run a couple of mini-buses to get the oldsters to hospital and for day trips.  The whole place is volunteer run, even the top line people.  It's a great cause.

In the meantime, add your name to the list.

Cheers

Paul/NJ

I have bought a new car, and more basses, and retired from work, all to make my attendance more possible.  It was a sacrifice that I was willing to make....

Is there a table for people selling their bass gear? Or will that be a separate thread?

If it's of interest, what I do is I click the [Quote] button of the previous commenter, select all text, copy it to the clipboard, then delete everything and paste, adding my name. It's not slick, but for something you only do once a year it's good enough.

If you leave it within a Quote then it's unquotable, so bear that in mind.

I’m in. Sure that we could get Barry along to tell anecdotes about his time at Wapping and Farringdon. He has lots of stories! With Lol and Guy he timed out at the last bash!

I also have a couple of non-Basschat “vouch-forable“ bass chums who might also want to come if they are free on whatever date.

I’d like to come if it coincides with me being in that neck of the woods. Don’t add me yet but I’ll follow and see when dates are announced. Well done for organising @prowla and @NancyJohnson 🤩

I hope they aren’t guitards who “ can play a bit of bass but only with a pick”
