I'm in the same position - I don't gig. I honestly envy folk who have 1 bass and can be happy with that. I imagine it allows you to "become one" with that one bass and really get to grips with it.

But what bass will you keep?

For me I'd have to select from
PJ fretted
PJ fretless
Jazz-style fretted
P bass
(I've already discounted 5 strings... I think)

Tough one

I'm far removed from my senses and while I've downsized pretty much viz all other possessions I'm a bit bonkers about instruments. I could cut my basses down from 5 to 3 but I can't bring myself to do this. If space gets tight one of the kids'll have to go. I've got a spare so that's not a problem.

Managed to cut the collection down to a manageable level, but even though the GAS is almost gone, I still manage to acquire stuff.

Even 'manageable' means having a backup. :D

Same for me, I've cut down a fair bit over the last couple of years as I no longer play bass in a band (I'm more of a drummer these days) and even though there's almost nothing I actually want... I still end u buying things every now and then. It's an illness I tell thee

A few years back I had a big clearout; just kept the one bass and sold everything else. Didn't play for about six-eight months. It was quite cathartic, to be honest, it was akin to offloading a load of surplus baggage.

I then got a call from someone and the floodgates opened. Again. It was nice to have a reason to go out and buy something different.
