The more I played, the more i liked the cab. The Gnome (which is technically a bass amp) suits it very well for both bass and guitar. I don't have any experience with other small amps so can't comment on the Elf but suspect it would be equally nice. Putting a bass through it, no compression or any pedals sounded great. The gain on the Gnome does make a big difference. It's far better than my Ampeg practise amp RB-108 but it's about twice the price in parts alone with the Gnome. I'll put some pedals on it as well as try it with some modellers, a Tonex and a Mod Dwarf. I'd like to get the Gnome set up with as flat a respective as I can. If I put a microphone into a Mac and ran Audacity would that be a good way to check the frequency response or would there be other recommended ways. It's great to have the Gnome attached on the top or the back as it's basically a small but loud combo. Hopefully a small and decent quality speakon cable will be coming soon. I showed it to the other half and she said how small but perfectly formed it was. The children (19 and 16 so not really children) thought it looked like Lego as well. Definitely a plus. Rob

If I am not mistaken, it is over three months since I posted any Anthony Jackson! Unbelievable! Today's transcription is my perspective on the AJ performance on 'Elegant Gypsy Suite' from the 1977 Al Di Meola album, 'Elegant Gypsy'. A couple of hairy moments in there but is is playable! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/elegant-gypsy-suite-al-di-meola/

I don't have one of these but there seems to be a simpler way which gives you better control. The Rolls has a built in DI splitter for the instrument. Plug your bass into the jack 'inst in' Your mic into 'mic in' Use the 'mic out' to send to the PA Use 'left out' to send your bass to the PA, 'right out' to send to your bass amp if you have one. Ask foir a FOH mix without bass to feed into your 'line input' You now have complete control of the mix in your in-ears and the PA is getting a clean feed of your bass and mic. The feed from the bass is isolated through a transformer and there are ground lifts on both feeds to the PA should you need to kill any hum p

Lovely bits of kit! How did you get the paisley onto the bodies?

While I'm on the subject, as there is expression input, DG could add a two or three buttons aux option. If they are feeling really adventurous a resistor ladder with scope for any number of buttons but probably 6.

Oh wow this thread exists. Well I've got two! My Consat Custom 6, and Votan 5! Both incredible instruments, right up there with Fodera and custom Dingwall in terms of quality and feel.

I'm using a Morningstar MC6 Pro which is awesome but also a bit pricey. If you just want a few more buttons I think some are using the m-vave chocolate which is cheap as chips (£30 on Amazon) and very compact. I've not used one so can't vouch for it but I'm sure you can find some info. I'm hoping for some improvements to the midi implementation soon but we shall see.

That is exactly what I do with the Rolls. I also ask the soundguy not to send any bass in my mix, to avoid phase issues.

What MIDI footswitches are we using? I like the Darkglass footswitch, but nearly £200 is tough to swallow right now.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
TheGhostofJaco replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
S martyn is making some epic short strings right now. They have a freedom/little which is a Fodera single cut style in 32 or 30. Brazilian rosewood. Pretty awesome. Then they have a little dingwall style bass that’s called the Blaze that a lot of people are playing. Proprietary pickups and they are headless. Easy to string b-g or e-c. You all may already know about these but they are really high quality handmade instruments that can be had for a steal (relatively speaking) on the used market.
