What do we make of Danny Sapko?

I don't know if it is big brother influencing my youtube feed, but he seems to be everywhere in bass related content at the moment. I quite like the guy. While he isn't a virtuoso like Berthoud or Wooten, he does seem to be a good player with a lot of character, and if music is about performing he has that nailed. He also comes across well on camera, and while his punk persona is fun, there does seem to be a more thoughtful person (and player) under the safety pins. Mind you I'd be scared to meet him in person!

I like him.  I like his irreverant short Yorkshireman schtick and that he's, obviously, a tidy player behind it.

 

From the serious moments in his or others videos he seems a nice guy as well.

You are right, he is everywhere, all over youtube and all over here. If I never saw a video with his face on it again it would still be too soon. While I find it hard to accept the idea of hating someone you don't know, he is someone who could change that feeling for me. Don't know what it is, just absolutely detest videos with the guy.

Andertons have even done a big interview with him on their YouTube channel which I thought was a little unusual.

Click on the three dots to the right of a video title of his - choose "Don't recommend channel", job's a good 'un.

Can't watch anything that has him in it. Totally hate his personality and style. Probably a really great guy.  Seems a bit of a Karen to me though.

Sadly not, I did that on video one, it still pops up, turns up on other videos, turns up on facebook, even when you select 'don't show me content like this' his smug annoying face turns up on the next thing, and even when you think he has gone, someone else will post his inane dribblings about how someone else is the problem with the world.

I remember when he first started popping up years ago. I couldn't bear him - his stuff was so TECHNICOLOR and in-your-face.

Turns out he was just ahead of the curve.

I still couldn't bear him until recently, but at some point I had another go accepting him as a bit of a cartoon character, and... I get him now. He's funny.

That said, I'd never watch him to learn anything.

The only musical people I am interested in are those who make music I enjoy, or those who make equipment or instruments that I want to use. Mr Sapko appears to do none of those things so as far as I am concerned he's an irrelevance.

I didn't really answer the question.  It may be hard to believe but I have no strong opinion about him, despite his best efforts to be edgy and an "acquired taste".  Seems to be able to play the bass, probably better than me.  Says the word "bass" funny.

I think Mr Sapko and myself would have completely different music tastes judging by his playing on clips, but I find the guy funny and love some of his not-so-subtle mickey takes when he lists people and puts another person's photo up. 

 

Carry on Danny as far as I am concerned.

I like him. He's funny, different, irreverent and behind the humour, a good player. Check out the Charles Berthoud v Danny Sapko video. He appears to be a smart guy and can play. Making a living in the bass world is a tough ask these days, so more power to him.

I think he's great. Makes good points, plays well (and stuff which is actually listenable not noodling), and is funny.

I think the people who don't like him are just players of the Dipstick lick 🙂.

I confess I actively avoid all these YouTube videos. They don't do anything for me, but more power to them if they float your boat.

Although Danny has his place in the YouTube World, and does it well, he's not for me. I just end up flicking and skimming through bits and pieces.

I've just watched a Scott Devine video interviewing Nathan East and then another one with Freddie Washington. For my interests, much more entertaining and engaging.

I watched a couple of his YouTube clips a few months ago. While initially not minding , he seems a bit Peter Kay ..everywhere and annoying. I got bored fairly quickly.

I might watch one more of his YouTube clips and see  if he can be accepted into my YouTube feed.

 

As for Scott Devine ; I watched a lot of his stuff years ago and had a lot of time for him . Unfortunately I can’t be bothered with him anymore. He has those clickbait captions now,which I will not  click on ! Lazy and annoying! I even managed to watch a recent one where his voice was dubbed American! Is that an AI thing ?!? I posted that on his comment section and I did get a polite reply . 
 

I stopped watching Charles Berthoud’s stuff for a while . Too much slapping all the time imho.  I’ll probably watch him again in a few months or so ,to see if much has changed on his channel.

 

That can be an issue with YouTube from time to time , when they put a certain person everywhere who is really annoying like James Corden and you can’t find the remote quick enough without using expletive language and hatred .

I did get told at the last North West Bass Bash that I spoke a bit like Danny Sapko, especially when I say the word "behs".
