Somehow, over the last half a century, 10cc have escaped my attention.

Of course I was aware of them, and some of their tunes, but it's only the last few weeks I've realised what a rich seam they are / were.

Wonderful writing, arranging, performances, lyrics and artwork.

Feel The Benefit is the soundtrack to my life at the mo, and it even has a bass solo around the 9:20 mark. Graham Gouldman is a hell of a player.

I had a live CD of theirs, came with a Sunday newspaper supplement, annoyingly I can’t find it now but it was superb, those great songs made even greater with live performance.

Totally agree.

Great players, vocalists, writers, arrangers, producers, studio engineers…………….the list could go on!

the band I'm in covers 'Dreadlock Holiday' - what a fun song to play.

Staggered that hasn’t been cancelled, tbh!

I had Live and Let Live, back in the day. I still think it rates as one of the best live albums captured on tape.

I agree. Can’t believe I haven’t heard it before now.

You could perhaps replace your missing recording - there is an 11-track live CD from 2007, given away with the Sunday Mail, on ebay, for 99p.  More than one, in fact - so, I shall buy one too.

The Original Soundtrack and How Dare You (along with most Supertramp and late The Kinks releases) were magnificent releases in the popular end of progressive rock. Much creativity and good music on this side of the pond.

Not a bad song on it! and hands down the best version of Feel The Benefit recorded.

And the intro to this is so contemporary - it doesn’t sound like it was recorded by a bunch of Mancunians in 1977, one of whom wrote ‘No Milk Today’ for Herman’s Hermits, while the other sang ‘A Groovy Kind of Love’ for the Mindbenders.

It’s.. mindbending.

Absolutely brilliant band.  I knew nothing about them until I watched one of those 'Behind the Music' style documentaries and became an instant fan.  I'm Mandy Fly Me is a personal favourite but the hits are all great!

Saw the current GG version (with video cameo from KG and members who were in the backing band in the 70s) earlier this year in Hull. A great show and a fantastic collection of songs.

"I'm Mandy..." was the first single I ever bought!  :i-m_so_happy:

Brilliant band, although I think when Godley and Creme left much of the unique creativity went with them - "Deadlock Holiday" in particular was dire IMHO......

Surprised that no one has mentioned source of the band name yet 9_9

Deceptive Bends, tho.. what an album.

Band name source has since been debunked 🙂

Saw them live once, 15 years or so ago. They were polished, but played so like the original tracks that you might as well have listened to the CD (youngsters - ask your parents). When I see someone live I hope for soemthing a bit extra.

10cc were the first band I ever saw - Brum Odeon, September 1978. They were brilliant. I'll be at their Birmingham show next year - I think I've seen them (and Graham Gouldman's solo shows) about thirty times. I've never seen a bad gig.

Sadly, I got into them too late to see the original line up, and I'm incredibly jealous of anyone who did. Their seventies albums are almost all superb. "Sheet Music" and "How Dare You" are about as good as Pop music will ever get.

Unbelievably, my band got to support GG at a rain soaked outdoor gig in Manchester in 2023. When he walked in to our shared dressing room, I was reticent to speak to him. What if he turned out to be a Diva? Well, he wasn't. He was a lovely chap, and we had a very geeky chat about bass guitars while I tried not to burst into tears. Later that year, I interviewed Kevin Godley (via Zoom) about his brilliant solo album 'Muscle Memory'. He was ace. Funny and clever and sharp as a nail.

GG is also one of the most underrated bassists ever. He's up there with McCartney for me.
