Popular Post AndyTravis Posted March 3, 2022 Popular Post Posted March 3, 2022 I turned 21 in 2005. Ā I had a mortgage, was living with the mother of my first child⦠ when I turned 21, my mum and dad - who Iāve battled with, but have been incredibly supportive of my musical endeavours asked me what I wanted. Ā āMusicman Bongoā Ā And they gave me Ā£800. So I put the rest to it and I got one of the early bongos. Ā They didnāt come with a case originally. Ā i took a caseā¦but was later informed it was a Ā£120 optional extra š Ā Returned it. Ā Anyhow, 4 years later - my partner wrote her car off and quit her job on the same day when we had a brand new babyā¦so a massive bass sale began. Ā @LukeFRCand @EtienneĀ got some basses⦠ the Bongo went, at a huge loss⦠ they werenāt popular at allĀ at the time. Ā now Iām 37, the ābrand new babyā is a 13 year old bass playing emo. Ā Its time Ā found the same age, spec, colour⦠ Itās in Northern Ireland. Ā i debate a flight. And then I remember my good mate @briansbrewis in Derry. Ā and hereās where a person shows their worth. Ā A message last night to Bri. Ā āYeah itās near me, I know him - let me work on itā Ā and nothingā¦for a bit. Ā this afternoonĀ Ā āIāve gone out for a driveā¦here it isā¦got Ā£150 knocked off and Iāll get it ready to shipā¦ā Ā itās in his lounge. Ā Heās bought the bloody bass! Ā What an absolute hero - Bri is no middlemanā¦he is the man. Ā I never in a million years expected him to do this - I thought he was going to talk the guy into shipping the bass (listing was collection only) Ā I cannot express my thanks enough (Iāve paid him back - financially at least.) Ā A depressing thing is that I donāt have any pictures of me with my original bongo. Ā Anyhow - Publicly, thank you Brian. Ā Ā 64 1 Quote
Machines Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Very nice sir. I think that is the best colour they did the Bongo in full stop. My 5 string was a looker too. Ā Top marks to @briansbrewĀ - making the BassChat community great. Ā n.b. if anyone wants to buy me a bass, that's cool. 1 Quote

Misdee Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Enjoy your Bongo, they are superb basses. Ā And don't let the emo kid play it. That way he will have something substantive to be miserable about. Inspire him to even greater heights of emo-nessš 1 Quote

Ā Ā I got up yesterday morning as I had to take the day off for a funeral when I noticed a message from Andy via Basschat with the subject HELP ! so I knew this had to be something importantĀ Ā As luck had it I had the guys number and he was only contactable with e-mail in the ad, so I called him and he agreed to meet me, was a lovely sunny day so I didn't mind the drive up, we had a good chat about basses and gear, as you do with fellow bassists.. Ā We done the deal there and then, had a wee noodle on it when I got home, cracker basses with plenty of tone. Ā It was only after I got it when Andy explained about selling his and regretting it, so I thought I have a decent box to ship it and arranged for the collection today, which has been picked up by the way Andy, winging its way to you as I write this Ā I was really happy to do my bit and get this sorted for Andy as I know it would have been difficult to arrange otherwise.. Ā Its was a pleasure and was worth it to see a happy camper and thank you for your lovely comments... 31 1 Quote
