Your Strengths & Weaknesses

strengths, reliable, decent gear and will turn up at rehearsals having learnt the new song, write most of the songs (on the last album anyway) and have decent backing vocals, and try and make sure things don't go wrong, before they go wrong

Weaknesses, make the most mistakes of anyone in the band, fight my corner a little too hard on occasions, and, as far as the rest of the band are concerned, can't see how socialism could possibly work

Strengths: Will give 100% commitment to a band and expect all other band members to do the same. Scrupulously punctual. Will quickly learn material until I can play it backwards, upside down and under water. Absolutely WILL NOT suffer fools, flakes, delusions, laziness, slacking or ANY excuses.

Weaknesses: See above.

Strengths - my timing is good, my theory knowedge is good, I learn the basic patterns of the song quickly.

Weaknesses - I rarely expand the basic patterns,  I dont slap, I'm a bit static on stage and when I do move I dance worse than Bue.

Strengths - I guess I am pretty creative when it comes to writing basslines and counter harmonies

Weaknesses - I struggle to stay focused on the little things, mixing sessions drive me potty! 4 hours to get the reverb right on a 30 second section, yep, the mix sounded great in the end but I just can't focus to that level!

Strengths: I'm reliable, I learn stuff quickly, I've got good gear, good transport and am reasonably easy company. I sing well, and play other instruments, and like a really wide range of music. And I play for the song/band, not to show off. I'm a supporting role on bass, not the star turn.

Weaknesses: Apparently I get stressed out a fair bit ( so I'm told ) cos I hate being late! I do like to turn up in plenty of time, and I like to crack on with the gig rather than waiting about. I don't really do slapping or tapping, but then I have no call to do so in my bands.

Strengths - solid technique, reliable, and I'm really good at coming up with my own riffs - which is handy as I've never been in a covers band.

Weaknesses - Tone deaf. Would love to have pitch perfect hearing rather than having to ask '...erm, what key's this in? when jamming.

Strengths:
My voice stays intact on 4-gig weekends.
I play the bass part that is required.
Reasonably fast learner.
Creative with arrangements and not sulky if an idea does get accepted.
I am persistent and can fill a diary.
Good gear and transport.
I can keep a good tight pounding rhythm on something like Roadhouse blues.

Weaknesses:
I get really tired, due to health issues (but have never messed up at a gig).
Not a good after-gig chatter. I usually want to get home and to bed.
I sometimes need a cheat sheet on the floor for new songs til they are in my head.
The occasional lyric will fall out of my head at a moment's notice - I have never had to sing all of a 2 hour set until last 2 years.

Don't worry, burno70, very, very few musicians have perfect pitch.

I think what you mean is you may find it difficult to hear intervals, which is a very different thing, and you really can improve this by ear training - there's quite a bit of stuff online to help you with this.

                            Don't smoke or drink, well prepared, will put the time in to learn new material.

Weaknesses :-  A bit Mutt and Jeff, don't slap, due to old age and arthritic hands can no longer play very fast for long periods

                            Not the slightest bit interested in football (believe me this has been a problem)

                            Like to derig and get off home pdq

                            Intolerant of other band members who use rehearsal time to learn new material rather than do some homework and come prepared

Oh yes. Is this a weakness? I suppose intolerance must be, but my goodness it's one I share.

Strengths: Keep time, always carry a spare ( two of everything at every gig), entertaining on and off stage, experienced, hard working, help with the pack down, learn my parts properly, always trying to improve. Give the audience 100%, play with my eyes up so alert for band leader's signals, go where I'm sent and do what I'm told. Sober, drug free, good gear.

Weaknesses: Fall in love with all female band members all the time. Intolerant of lazy show ponies and shrinking violets alike. Crap car and no money - sooner or later this will hurt me. Over enthusiastic  at times and  confused  when all band members don't  immediately see the wisdom of my brilliant ideas. Get swept away by the music sometimes and yell at the audience/make inappropriate 'jokes' between songs.

of course most peoples weaknesses must include an over inflated personnel view of their ability and importance in the band, me included probably

Sure. My sight reading sucks and I'm bad at pretending to enjoy playing stuff that I actually don't. I can solo and improvise and keep an audience engaged and I can pull off a gig with no practice and without ever even meeting the other players  beforehand as long as there are chord charts or it's something with no expectation of "like the record." Just got a call for a big band sub gig tonight and the regular bass player has all the charts and is on the other side of the country. So I'll have to read off the keyboard charts for the ones I don't already have (probably about half), which will be half dots and half chords. It's jazz, but there is very little real improv in most big bands. I've been told many times that my biggest strength is fearlessness, and I'm not the slightest bit nervous, so maybe there's some truth in that.

These things are a step too far for some people. Especially here in the Glasgow area 😄

Another weakness, I rely a little too much on my pedals and on top of that I could be a lot better at tweaking them.

All I really need is a little sustain and dirt. Ivfinally have good settings dialed in on my MRX Bass Distortion pedal which should help.

Strength-I'm dead reliable, really keen sense of groove, excellent meter, I can slap, I can read, I sing, I teach, I know my place in the mix, I will play any gig without complaint

 

Weakness-i struggle to jam unless I have a chart, arthritic pain in my right hand (caused by playing electronic drums) hampers my speed.

Strengths - personally reliable, reliable gear, own reliable transport, pretty steady player rather than flashy, never had a drummer say they can`t play with my bass style, good inbuilt timing, pretty decent backing vocals, when the mood takes me pretty ok as a songwriter too, ability to know my weaknesses.

Weaknesses - not that good with technology so have to learn material old-school ways, similarly with my reliability, not on facespace rely on e-mails/texts for band info, tend to be a tad aggressive in my playing style - whilst not an issue in my current punk band accept that this would need work if moving to other genres.

I think I struck lucky: my band includes a Welshman, who is de facto more interested in the rugby, and a Brazilian who emigrated for reasons including, but not limited to, his native country's increasingly tedious glorification of its past footballing prowess. The fact that I keep an occasional eye on Leicester City's results makes me the closest thing to a football expert in the group....
