So very many bad album covers out there.... and, at the risk of judging a book by its cover, probably so many bad albums! But what about good albums with bad covers? Two of my favourite artists are Peter Hammill and Todd Rundgren, and they've both been guilty:

The cover of "Liars" is terrible, but unfortunately it's still better than the music...
I was a massive Rundgren fan but I don't think he's made a decent album for a LONG time. The last few in particular have been terrible IMO, I didn't even bother buying "Global" or whatever it was called.

This is only one of tens of thousands of similar covers from the nordic "dansband" genre, and I'm deliberately avoiding posting a picture of the dansband band Gert Jonnys. ;)

The whole genre is beyond words: https://www.google.se/search?q=dansbands+skivomslag&biw=1188&bih=566&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiAhuqrucbOAhUoGZoKHcDhCQIQ_AUIBigB

This, for me, has to be one of the worst, though any Brothers Johnson album cover should be included on any list of crap ones.

I bought this album after hearing people raving about Louis Johnson's bass playing. It remains one of the biggest piles of crap I've ever heard. I played it through once, took it off the turntable, snapped it in half & threw it in the bin.

There are some hideous covers in this thread. However this one is not aesthetically horribly but a financial one.

For your consideration. The biggest selling 12" single or one of them anyway.
New orders blue monday. The first run lost money on every single one they sold due to the expensive die cut sleeve.

Imagine to have a record flying off the shelves but losing money on everyone haha. Later ones were made without the cutouts, or made in the us or had a different cover etc.

I actually had a little collection of the various runs at one point.

It's really no wonder that some have to practise playing their trumpet whilst driving their car on the way to a gig, after obviously not having had any time to practise at home!

A brilliant album, Cabbage Alley by the Meters.
The marketing department literally came up with a picture of a giant cabbage... in an alley.

Anything from the "Top of the Pops" range of albums from the 1970s.

The dodgy covers also being given added creepiness by what we now know was going on behind the scenes of the programme during that time.

You will not find a worse album cover than Virgin Killer by The Scorpions. Wrong on so many levels.

I won't post an image here. The morbidly curious can do a google image search.
[/quote]Oh no they didn't! The Blind Faith cover could be called dodgy, but there's no 'could be' about that. Just wrong.

Helloween Pink bubbles go ape
I really enjoyed the keeper of the seven keys albums so was looking forward to the follow up. When kerrang announced the album title I thought huh? When they printed the advert for the kids of the century single I assumed it was a joke.
Those wacky Germans....

Except that the TV show and the albums had nothing to do with each other, and the albums only had the same name because the BBC had not trade marked the name "Top Of The Pops" something that would be completely unthinkable nowadays.

Has John just told Julie that he is unable to continue their relationship as she is now too old?

Oh dear. Luckily safe search "on" saved me the worst of it, but still....

The Scorpions certainly have form, don't they? I used to be a bit of a Hipgnosis fan boy, and I think they were responsible for the "bugglegum in the car" one...
