Fodera anyone?

I saw a cancelled order AJ go on sale not that long ago at about $25,000 and it went in under 24 hours.

This one is pretty unique for various reasons and I'd guess it might have cost $35,000 new. However, those unique options could make it harder to sell than a 'regular' AJ with a Holly top.

Incredible, but its a Fodera. This is how much they are, and the pricelist does show that these basses go for $20-35k new. What I find far more incredible is someone paid this, and is now selling it so quickly.

Totally agree. This sort of spec is very much a custom order - Fodera will do anything they can to make a customer happy (as you'd expect in this price range) and it's amazing the lengths they will go to post-sale to help someone if they aren't happy with the spec they ordered.

can't believe there are people on talkbass saying this looks good. It looks like a toilet seat lid!! no accounting for taste!

If that's a holly top then it'll look stunning in the flesh. The AJ series is an amazing instrument. I've only ever played one and it was stunning.

Absolutely not my kind of bass by any stretch of the imagination but having been able to play one they immediately make 'sense' :)

I just don't get the whole Fodera thing at all.

They do look very nicely put together indeed - but on the other hand, top notch timbers aside they are not built using any particularly special type of materials or building techniques. In fact I would go as far as to say I really don't like the unrefined look of the way in whch they use scarf joints in their purest, but most basic form when forming the headstock/neck joint.

I am sure they are superb instruments...but not at that price. I am certain that the AJ bass in question is not worth 6 Wal's or Ken Smiths.

'Played' a Matt Garrison but to me, they are so specialised they are unplayable..

Not for me...and that applies to Fodera in general anyway. I just don't get them.

Interested to know what you think makes it so specialised it's unplayable? Aside from it being a high C instead of the 'usual' low B.

Pretty much spot on I'd say. Personally I prefer the versatility of 2 pickups on my toilet seats in any case so based on that I think I'll leave this to someone else.

It is set up for him..... you can't slap it as the front pickup is too close to the neck to be any use.
It accomodates one style and limits so many others, as far as I am concerned.
Not that keen on ramps either myself, even for thumbing styles...or the scale.

I'd call it a quirky bass... and one that is set-up/built for a very stylised player, IMO

A bass you can't slap on? Sounds perfect to me! ;-)
