Those of you from the North West will probably know Night & Day which is an established Music Venue and Bar/Cafe. It has operated successfully for 23 years and just because 1 person, who is a new resident, has complained to Manchester Council, they have served them with a Statutory Nuisance Abatment Notice.
.
Night & Day is a hugely important venue in Manchester, a proving ground for local, national and international acts before they make their jump to the larger venues. The depth and quality of the bands who appear there are a credit to the owners and Manchester will be much the worse if it should close.

Venues like Night & Day and Dry Bar were the vanguard for the "Northern Quarter" actually becoming a trendy (and obviously coffer-filling) night spot.

The new resident moves next door to an established venue and moans about the noise. When the hell is common sense going to play out in this regard? If someone moves into a property next to an established venue, unless they're taking the mick (e.g. loud music until 2am on a week night) they shouldn't have a leg to stand on. Equally, councils need to work the opposite way around when granting new licences. It shouldn't be a formality, it should be similar to planning permission.

Over 12000 people have signed this just today and if you are concerned about music venues closing down, please add your name and spread the word..
Cheers,
Stuart
