throwoff
My USA P bears her first scar Just dinked her onto a mic stand at rehearsal. Ruined the night for me to be honest. So minor I doubt you would see it if I photographed it but its all I can see
flyfisher
Honest battle scar. I wouldn't worry about it, but then I'm not you.
risingson
It's going to happen sooner or later, the more you try and prevent the more inevitable it ends up becoming. Your instrument should show to an extent its journey with you otherwise it's just another guitar off of the shelf in a music store.

Billy Apple
Scars tell stories mate.
Yes. Once upon a time there was a handsome Prince of Slough. Full of pride he was with his custom built La Cabronita P bass. One merry morn he verily and forsooth decided to f*** about with it on the kitchen table. Upon his fiddling he'd neglected to regard a steel ruler in the cupboardington above his mighty feasting table. Whilst on a quest for beeswax or some other such nonsense yon verily ruler made a hasty escape from lofty shelf and yea verily did fall and twat the back of the Princes matte blacken nitro P body, delivering it an indelible blow. And yea did the Prince rail at the Gods for the misfortune dealt upon him.. 'For f***s sake, I've only had the **** a week and I've dinged the bastard already!' And they all lived happily ever after. andydye
The first ding/scratch/scuff hurts the worst, after that you're not so precious about it but you also learn a bit more about taking care. I always hate it if someone else makes the first mark on anything of mine, much better if it's me really! visog
You can pay Fender to do it for you and call it relic-ing! I feel your pain. You either want no dings on a bass or loads of them!
PaulWarning
that's a very good reason for buying second hand, someone else has already done it, and they're cheaper
ChickenKiev
The worst dings and scratches are the ones that appear mysteriously.. Its like, "How on earth is there a chip of paint missing? What did I do?!"
Lozz196
Wear the scar with pride. It`s always annoying when you get the first ding in a pristine instrument but as others above have said, this makes the bass "yours" as part of its journey with you. Hobbayne
Wait till you play on a small stage and take a step back, knock in to one of the cymbals and take a gouge out the back of the neck like I did!

BigRedX
I wouldn't worry about. When the bass picks up too many dings then you can get it refinished. Maybe pick another colour as well!
ezbass
It's done now and as much as I know the pain you can at least proceed without the worry of the first ding always in the back of your mind. Our instruments are tools and are meant to be used, this means wear; it's all good.
Yeah this. If you happen to have this bass after 10 or 20 or more years of gigging you'll look fondly upon the dings. The first one is a bit cringey, but, there is nothing cooler than a proper 'roadworn' Precision!
