1. Ok I’ve received two PM’s regarding the price. One is from a fellow Bravewood owner telling me the price is spot on, the other that it’s too high. With that in mind, and the lack of interest, if anyone is considering this bass but is being put off by the price (or anything else for that matter), please contact me via PM so we can discuss. As I said from the start I’d no idea how to price this, but based on the very limited use, condition and custom nature of the instrument I’d priced it the best I could at the time. Happy to let anyone have a plod on it before committing. Cheers
2. Not much interest if I’m honest. Maybe because I’m down in Cornwall? As stated in the original post, I’m happy to meet at a sensible location to handover the bass. Bumping with a price drop to 1400.
3. Lucky man. As you mention it, the neck is still very much a Precision in terms of profile and feel, it has that slightly chunkier and less tapered style when compared to a J bass, it was just slightly pulled in width-wise at the nut, 40mm instead of a more conventional 42mm. This was based on me liking the width on a 1992 MIJ Squier Silver Series I owned at the time. Seemed to fit my hands best when a J always felt too slim, and a full-fat P neck just a bit too chunky. Thanks for all the replies so far.
4. For regrettable sale is my Bravewood ‘58 Precision Bass commissioned by myself in 2015 and made by John Elliott between July 2015 and May 2016. I’d owned and played quite a few Fender basses over the years and got to understand what I liked and didn’t like about each of them. I’d gassed for a custom bass for a few years and in 2015 I finally had the money together to start making enquiries. I specified a 40mm neck, rolled fingerboard, lightweight body, and with deep body contours/chamfers. John had me take a few of my basses down to his workshop near Redruth so he could see what I liked about them, before starting work. It exceeded my expectations and it really is a beautiful bass to look and and hold. The pictures do not do it justice, the colour especially is much more rich and Blonde in the flesh. Since I had it it’s only been gigged twice at private events where I could trust it wouldn’t be nicked or damaged, one or two rehearsals, and played at home on occasion. It looks the same as the day I picked it up. My reason for selling is I’m barely playing bass anymore, sadly. I haven’t gigged in 2 years and some recent financial issues mean I can’t justify having a bass of this value sat around not being played, not just because of my own financial situation, but the fact this is a bass that deserves to be played! Swamp Ash body in vintage transparent Blonde nitro with reliced and checked finish. Maple neck with 40mm nut width. F logo on headstock. Vintage-correct hardware all round. Wizard vintage-spec pick up and Hiscox hardcase. And at 7.9lbs John reckoned it was the lightest Precision he’d ever made. John replaced the pickup with another brand-new Wizard in November 2016 after the original one mysteriously died, and due to inevitable neck-dive because of the light weight, I fitted some Gotoh GBR640 tuners which I reliced to match the original Gotoh’s John fitted. I didn’t have a clue how to price this, as Bravewood’s don’t come up very often, therefore I’ve listed it at 1500 *now 1400* which is what I originally paid . I’m happy for someone to tell me if this is too steep, but I think it is worth it as it’s hardly been used and is a wonderful instrument. I played it for the first time in months the other day, the set up is still very good but I cannot remember what strings are on it, although they are roundwounds with silver ball ends and still have a lot of life left. I will not post this, I am happy to meet any prospective buyer at my home address in Cornwall or I can travel within a reasonable distance to meet you, but I want to make sure the new buyer is completely happy as this is not an off-the-shelf bass, but a completely custom-made instrument. John put pictures of the bass on his website and you can see it here http://www.bravewoodguitars.co.uk/page21.html I will also include the whole email conversation between me and John to show how and when it was commissioned. The pictures I’ve posted are what John sent me once it was completed, plus a cheeky couple of it at home the other day. You can get a better sense of the true colour in these pics which is why I took them. Any Q’s please ask! Will
5. Hi, I ordered this as a replacement neck for my Road Worn P bass just prior to the band taking what looks to be a permanent hiatus. Knowing I’m not going to be playing anywhere near as much, I’m going to stick the original neck back on, meaning this is up for grabs. Musikraft make high quality Fender licensed products to order in New Jersey and I chose them over the likes of Warmoth as they seemed to be the only company I could find at the time that would offer a vintage-correct 7.25” fretboard radius plus the all-important heavy-rolled fretboard edges. The nut width is 1 5/8, I’ve put up the order form email so you can see the full specs. This cost well over £300 with import tax and I then had the neck finished with Tru Oil and a Tusq nut installed costing £150 with set up at a local luthier. So it owes me quite a bit. It’s only been played a handful of times but plays beautifully. I hadn’t got around to adding a vintage logo, which means you can add your own period-correct one. I’m putting this up for £250 and will include postage if needed. Any questions PM me. Cheers Will
6. Hi, Bought this as I needed to learn a specific song, and it worked a treat with the ability to slow it down and change pitch, which was ideal as our singer insisted on singing most things in a different key to the originals! Easy plug-and-play on my Mac, assume it’s the same for most modern PC’s. Drag and drop MP3 tracks across onto the device. Micro USB charging. Can also loop parts of tracks if there’s a bit you’re stuck on. No box or instructions sadly, came to me like this. However it’s been easy to figure out and I’m sure instructions are available online. Can’t remember what I paid for it, but how does £30 delivered sound?
7. Joe's a great funky, natural player. I'm not convinced the drummer quite keeps up though, IDK what everyone else's consensus is? They pair ok, and he's obviously a competent player but he's not funky like Joe. Joe clearly leads the show.
8. In the sense that they all sound like precisions, yes.
9. Great 10" speaker cab, this is the 4ohm version for max volume! I can't see them readily for sale online anymore but the few places that have one are pricing at £199 so i'm asking £135 couriered to your door. It has had very little use. I've used it at one rehearsal, and two gigs, and about 3 hours of home rehearsal time. It performed admirably at the gigs! These are gigs where backline space is a premium, and it was my reason for buying the cab in the first place. Paired with a Mark Bass Blackline 250 it kept up with a loud drummer, a loud guitarist (using an all-valve rig) and a PA system (everything FOH). Admittedly I only needed it for stage monitoring as we have decent subs, but just for backline to get past the guitarist and drummer it had depth, authority and easily enough volume to keep up. In good condition- it has a few scuffs to the plastic corner protectors but that's about it. Link to specs: http://www.edenamps.com/ex110.html Down in Cornwall if you wanted to try out in person! 10. Mine was finished in May last year and is fantastic. It's the '58 style blonde on his website. He's a one-man operation so if he's saying he's too busy at the moment I'd take him by his word, might be worth trying again in a few months. I last saw him in November and he was still in the same place, still building. If you like vintage style fenders these are great instruments, IMO. Attention to detail is fantastic.
11.
Sold. Goodness. What have I done?
GAS. Like death and taxes, it gets everyone eventually.
12.
nope but you obviously can't read so was giving you a hint back on topic nice bass
"Ok ok, we've all had a drink...."
13. Thanks all. I've had a Compact in the past and I didn't really enjoy it- I was using it with the Orange and I think it may have been a bit of a mismatch perhaps, but I could never get a sound I was happy with from it. It was also a touch too transparent sounding for me. I'd be willing to look at it again though. Would the Midget be up to the task at all?
14. Hi All, Up until a month or so ago I was gigging fairly regularly, using an Orange Terror and TC RS212 for gigs (which I kept at the PA lock up) and a Little Mark Blackline 250 and Eden EX110 for a home rehearsal rig. The band has now taken a huge backward step and I'm not sure when I'll be out gigging again, if at all. Therefore, I'm reducing my gear to just the bare essentials and would like a rig I can keep at home for practice without taking up too much space, but which can still cut it at small gigs, and larger gigs with PA support. The Orange and Blackline have made way for a Little Mark 2, and the Eden and TC cabs will be offered for sale to be replaced with what I hope to be a small footprint, lightweight cab that I can carry up to the spare room on the top floor, that won't take up too much space, but that will give me a bit of presence and depth in the onstage mix and keep up with the drummer. We have PA support by way of 2 active 18's, so it doesn't need to fully project out front, but I don't want to be fighting the mix on stage as I don't want to use fold back, so it needs to be capable. I've looked into some of the single 12's like the GK Neo, Aggie, GB etc but I really have no experience of them, and whether they are suitable. There is also the mighty BF Midget of course. There is also the compact 2x 10 route, like the Markbass Traveler or BF Retro 2x 10. However these are usually more expensive. Budget wise I am looking to release some cash as well so I'd be looking to buy from the marketplace and am at the mercy of what comes up there to be honest. Thanks in advance
15. Thanks guys. Going to start a cab recommendation thread as I'm interested in going as small as possible with my LM2. Thinking 1x12 or 2x10.
16. I've recently sold my Bass Terror (which gave the full 500w at both 4 and 8ohms) and will shortly be receiving a Little Mark 2, which I believe has a reduced output at 8ohms. My current cab is a TC RS212 (8ohm) and I'm wondering if I will gain anything by using a 4ohm cab instead? Will it be louder, with more headroom? Punchier? Guy in my local music shop says 'more heat' as the amp will run hotter and that volume-wise I wouldn't notice a difference unless I was really having to drive the amp. I'm looking to change the cab anyway for something with a slightly smaller footprint, but it would be good to understand my options. Thanks!
