My mates band does 21st c sch man. I think it's great you can see a band in a pub even trying that. LIKE!
But where do all the calculators go?!
You put them on eBay. You don't get much for each one, but they all add up.

Ineffective tone control - passive bass

The cap could be duff. Do you have any way of measuring it? Many multimeters have capacitance measuring function. -
Is that the strings sounding good or just you?

International Pop Overthrow festival, Liverpool

I also meant to ask - do they provide backline for this festival? It would make a lot of sense with so many bands on. I'm gradually coming round to the idea... -
Upgrading my Fender Jazz 70's reissue. Advice welcome
MoonBassAlpha replied to Harlequin74's topic in Repairs and Technical
If you're set on fitting the East, do that first before changing the pickups. You may find that does all you need. -
I've got the Fishman neo D passive soundhole pickup in my parlour guitar, and while I like the sound, the output is really quite low. The ones with the built-in preamp are adjustable so you can match the output to the piezo. Doesn't have quite the top end of a piezo, but also doesn't the nasty sounding attack that a lot of piezos have.

Problems with intonation setting on Fender Precision
MoonBassAlpha replied to Iacopo San's topic in Repairs and Technical
Once you have moved the saddle make sure you check the open note with the tuner, not just at the 12th fret, as moving the saddle will lower the pitch at the 12th fret, seemingly making it in tune, but the open note will be much more flat. So, check both open and 12th after making adjustments. Do use an electronic tuner so you can quantify your readings. -
Probably lower tension overall

Fireball, mainly for the drum intro.
Sounds like an awful idea IMHO - even if it's confined to one forum, I'm pretty sure it would lower the tone of the place overall.
Oh dear. Truth and humour brings down Basschat. We're doomed.

Hi all This is an idea that struck me after reading our local freely distributed music paper. At the back is a section for demo reviews which are both ruthless and often hilarious in equal measure. Credit is given where the demos are considered up to snuff, but if not, oh dear! Now i know this forum is all about supportive comments and positivity, but often there is a certain truth in the "nastyness" that wouldn't otherwise come out. So, it is posting your demo in this section and giving free rein to fully express a critique thereof. For instance, I played an old recording to someone at work. He said "is that you singing? it sounds like Kermit the frog". He wasn't trying to be supportive, or funny or positive, but he was right, I was trying too hard to make it sound gravelly, and sure enough, it was Kermit-y. I won't be doing that again. If folks know what they're signing up for, there should be no falling out over it. I say "should"..... Might generate a bit more traffic around these parts too. What do we think?

Our band leader can get us on there apparently. What are people's experience of the event, and the Cavern club generally? In my opinion, it's a long way to go (from Oxford) just to play a short set, with probably an overnight stay and unlikely prospect of much remuneration, if any. Caveat: leader is a massive Beatles fan, so playing the Cavern would mean a lot to him. C'mon folks, sell it to me!

Replacement bridge for heavy guage strings

Is it out of the question to just ream the hole out a bit? -
Both my custom Shuker's have bendwells Where are you based? If you are anywhere near that London you're welcome to have go
I'd like to see how your d-tuner works on that Shuker. It looks like a neat and useful idea, unlike the bendwell (imo, of course! ) Any more pics of the mechanism?

Does anyone know if the Genz Shuttle 3.0 AND 6.0 have h.p. filtering, and if so, at what slope? Cheers, MBA

Meshell Ndegeocello coming live to the UK.
How does the Cheltenham Jazz Festival work? Do you just buy tickets for every act you want to see, or is there some sort of multiple gig ticket available? If I was going to go I reckon I'd need to book into a hotel, so I'd like to see as many acts as possible, but not at £20 per act.
That's exactly it, pick and chose carefully! There is some free stuff in the Montpellier gardens, and lots of food stands etc. but didn't offer any proper ales iirc. I mean, ffs, it's a jazz festival, isn't their target audience real ale drinking beard stroking old blokes? -
You could "ask a question" on ebay asking what the D stamp means, or even "why would I buy this from you when Thommann who you get them from sell for less than half this price?" This scheme is probably why folks on here are finding the deko ones are going so fast.

Finished! And now for something completely different ...
MoonBassAlpha replied to Andyjr1515's topic in Build Diaries
No you're not. And I'm not. On the back, the only things that are going to be cream are the two mahogany wings. The complete neck, including the through-body section, will be left visible and the matching cover too Does that make you feel better?
I think that will look nice, and of course, the customer is king! I do actually think a light solid colour accentuates the complex shape on this, which is nice! -
-
That's really handsome, shame it's a short scale - I understand the neck dive would be horrible on a 34"
If you read the blurb, the short scale was the point of it, it was done with input from 2 pro's who like shorties.

Maybe an Electric Upright Bass would be a way to see if it is for you. I got reasonable sounds out of a second hand Stagg for about what you let yours go for. I couldn't justify keeping it but it went to my mate who has always wanted to try DB. He likes it a lot.
