1.
If you haven't heard this already it might be of interest. Thanks for the clip.
That is my kind of thing, sounds influenced by Brand X.
2. I think he uses Alps pots, if that helps?
3. Note to self: next time, choose a cover that people might ACTUALLY have heard of... And again, all the best to Douglas, wishing you a speedy recovery.
4. Hmm, Ovations were the last word in electro acoustics in the 70s. I suspect there are nicer sounding things about these days... imho
5. Out of interest, what amp is your guitarist using onstage?
6. I would say that is a mighty fine effort, looks and sounds good on my little tablet.
7.
Last gig of the year for us is tonight, hastily rearranged from tomorrow night, at the Jerico in Oxford. We will probably be playing to whoever is left of the other 4 bands and the guy on the door Do come along, it'll be great.
Actually turned out pretty good. First band up playing their first ever gig, so all their parents, grandparents and school friends were there. Thinned out by the time we got on, but still a few folks around. Band got paid £20! Who can top that!
8. Dude that sucks. Which place were you at?, do they have any cctv?
9. Phew! Wouldn't like to be tagged as a hipster!
10. Flats for me too. Are flats the bass equivalent, in trendiness terms, of sporting a big beard?

12. There's the MusicMan Big Al, and Godin Shifter, more recent examples of the type. I think PRS did do one as well.
13. Some of the misunderstanding stems from the use of the term tremolo arms on guitars, they are really vibrato arms, but can't see that usage being changed anytime soon!
14. Matt Bisonette on the Docklands Light Railway? Cool!
15. I saw a chap playing a series 1 (possibly, I'm no expert!) in the afternoon at a small British Legion hall in East hanney near Abingdon, in front of about 8 people with an unremarkable band. They are out there!
16. Do you mean the ones with the metal fingerboard?
17. Phew! Glad my guessy advice was bourn out
18. Lots of combos do this to a greater or lesser degree. I suppose you could fit a relay to disconnect the speaker as the power is switched off if it is all that bothersome, or even get a double or triple pole mains switch and route the speaker wire through the normally unused poles.
19. dl=0https://www.dropbox.com/s/kp3qr1jhd0td95e/Oceanside%20dry%20mix.mp3?dl=0 The above is a cover of Oceanside by Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians from the 1991 album Perspex Island, on Go!Discs Guitar and drums live, bass and vocals added soon after. Performed by Charms Against the Evil Eye. Matt Sewell - guitar, vocals Rick J Nash - drums MoonBassAlpha - bass, backing vocals, recording. We tend to play this once a year, on our annual trip to Paignton, the Oxford freaks seaside trip... *edit did a slightly dryer mix as demanded by the other two. Outvoted
20. I think if the emgs work, then those aguilar ones should too. They both have bar magnets, so should work about the same on a narrow spaced 5er.
21. It's worth asking at this stage, with the guitar connected to an amp and the preamp powered, do you get a buzz through the preamp when you touch the metal bits of the pickup connector? This will show that at least the actual circuit is wired right and doing something. Verify one part of the circuit at a time.
22. I'd be surprised if the chip itself contributed much to the sound. Why not build the circuit with an IC holder so you can swap? the parts are cheap as, er, chips. Actually, the tl062 is a dual op-amp, so not pin compatible. The TL061 is a single though and may be a drop-in replacement. I haven't looked at the data sheets, but you might find one is lower power while the other has lower noise. There's usually some trade off unless you buy more expensive op-amps and it's questionable again if you'd hear the difference on a gig!
23.
Thanks chaps. I suggest we have a well earned rest over Christmas and relaunch the Noodle Bar in January with a firm boot up its arse. Until then, cheers for all your contributions this year!
Yes, some folk will have new toys for xmas they will want to give an outing, either recorders or instruments, even new strings! Should liven up in the new year.
24. Stick a piece of black Gaffa tape over the pickups. Out of sight, out of (OCD) mind.
25. Could they be wired out of phase?
