1. I saw a chap playing a series 1 (possibly, I'm no expert!) in the afternoon at a small British Legion hall in East hanney near Abingdon, in front of about 8 people with an unremarkable band. They are out there!
2. Do you mean the ones with the metal fingerboard?
3. Phew! Glad my guessy advice was bourn out
4. Lots of combos do this to a greater or lesser degree. I suppose you could fit a relay to disconnect the speaker as the power is switched off if it is all that bothersome, or even get a double or triple pole mains switch and route the speaker wire through the normally unused poles.
5. dl=0https://www.dropbox.com/s/kp3qr1jhd0td95e/Oceanside%20dry%20mix.mp3?dl=0 The above is a cover of Oceanside by Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians from the 1991 album Perspex Island, on Go!Discs Guitar and drums live, bass and vocals added soon after. Performed by Charms Against the Evil Eye. Matt Sewell - guitar, vocals Rick J Nash - drums MoonBassAlpha - bass, backing vocals, recording. We tend to play this once a year, on our annual trip to Paignton, the Oxford freaks seaside trip... *edit did a slightly dryer mix as demanded by the other two. Outvoted
6. I think if the emgs work, then those aguilar ones should too. They both have bar magnets, so should work about the same on a narrow spaced 5er.
7. It's worth asking at this stage, with the guitar connected to an amp and the preamp powered, do you get a buzz through the preamp when you touch the metal bits of the pickup connector? This will show that at least the actual circuit is wired right and doing something. Verify one part of the circuit at a time.
8. I'd be surprised if the chip itself contributed much to the sound. Why not build the circuit with an IC holder so you can swap? the parts are cheap as, er, chips. Actually, the tl062 is a dual op-amp, so not pin compatible. The TL061 is a single though and may be a drop-in replacement. I haven't looked at the data sheets, but you might find one is lower power while the other has lower noise. There's usually some trade off unless you buy more expensive op-amps and it's questionable again if you'd hear the difference on a gig!
9.
Thanks chaps. I suggest we have a well earned rest over Christmas and relaunch the Noodle Bar in January with a firm boot up its arse. Until then, cheers for all your contributions this year!
Yes, some folk will have new toys for xmas they will want to give an outing, either recorders or instruments, even new strings! Should liven up in the new year.
10. Stick a piece of black Gaffa tape over the pickups. Out of sight, out of (OCD) mind.
11. Could they be wired out of phase?
12. I'm still using the Zoom 1608 but do find editing a bit/lot clunky compared to how it is done in a d.a.w., but I don't have a d.a.w.! The R16 and R24 are the natural successors and look to work nicely as a control surface. Not sure what it has built in in the way of compressor, effects or mastering. It's nice being able to record 8 tracks, so can do kit, guitar, bass and 2 vocals in one go.
13.
Isn't that how they came by most of their gear back the early Pistols days?
Source?
14. Lots of people apply the technique to playing the piano, apparently.
15. Excellent sentiment.
16. That's a very decent thing to do, good for you. If she's a regular DB player, she would know how to handle a bass carefully and properly. It would be my instinct too, but I'm a little mindful of the expression " no good deed goes unpunished"
17. To be fair to the above, half of them are from kids TV
18. The only time a couple of girlies came up to me after a gig, I got the opportunity to make myself laugh. Girlie - "Do you play a lot of gigs round here?" (this was north London) Me - "Not really, but we're very popular in parts of Scotland" Girlie - "Wow, really!" Me - "Yes, personally, I'm huge in the Trossachs!" They wandered off looking confused, I laughed my head off inside. The Two Ronnies would have been proud.
19. but what a disappointment when you find he looks nothing like his avatar.
20. Well, line level is about 1V P-P and I'd think an active bass running off 9 or 18V would be able to exceed 1V p-p.
21. It's disappointing this error could take out a monitor. A signal from an active bass should just clip, not cause damage.
22. I prefer the "Walking on the Moon" approach. Play a few notes, then sing a few....
23. My sister berated me for the wobbly legs thing at about 2.10 in this, rightly so, I might add: https://m.youtube.com/?#/watch?v=XUUn_5qNguo Not really sure what I was thinking...
24.
Great idea. Shall have a think about a major Moondance revamp......
To the tune of "Ace of Spades" ?
25. Darn it! Whatever site the image is posted on is blocked here at work. Bah! Humbug! *edit* just read the post again, so it's covers ahoy! Different, nice idea.
