1. Yes,I think so. Looks similar to the Hohner Steinberger ones. If it is still very stiff to turn, it is worth fully unscrewing that tuner and lubricating the thread with grease. Actually, it's well worth doing that with all the tuner threads anyway. Not sure if yours is just the same as the Hohner in construction, but the body of the tuner is aluminium, and softer than the steel screw, so wears out more readily. I've fixed several by using a stainless steel thread insert (called a Helicoil). Doesn't take long to do, but you do need a kit, or know someone who has access to one
2. Well it looks like a choke, part of the crossover, though the photos don't really show any wires that were once soldered. If it's the bit that rolls the treble off the woofer, the lack of it may not be all that apparent.
3. You're most welcome. It's a good feeling to get to the bottom of the problem and not just give it a whack and hope it's going to be ok.
4. Ha! The injection was in to the tendon on the palm side where the finger meets the palm. The tendon has a thickening at that point, and catches on the retaining hoop the tendon passes through. This causes the finger to lock (called trigger finger) and gets to the point that the flexors can't straighten the finger unassisted. The Cortizone in the injection eventually shrinks the nodule on the tendon. It was 18 months since I last had it done...
5. Right in at the end. slow and mellow. I guess I'm feeling sorry for myself as I've had an injection into my little finger today (and it bloody hurt!) it is feeling better now though, thanks for asking Anyhow, here it is: https://soundcloud.com/julian-moss-511168525/sept-noodle
6. Have you considered the finish of the fingerboard? A harder coating than the bare wood will make whichever strings you use sound more zingy and bright.
7. Yes, this is quite a common thing with capacitors. Being larger components, there is more mass to resonate, and usually being supported by the soldered joints alone, are prone to annular fractures around the legs. This can cause crackles as well as hum as the capacitor connects and disconnects. These large components are often supported using hot glue, but I find the adhesion to circuit boards fails with time. When reworking these components, I prefer to use silicone rubber sealant, then reflow the solder joints.
8. Looks like a Scott Whitely shortcake.
9. Bob Palt's (and previously 4000's) Sei Flamboyant headless. My Mrs. actually encouraged me to buy it when I was at Bob's place buying something else... I've never spent anything approaching that on any music gear.
10. Just back from holiday, don't know if I'll have time to defend my title this month If I do it will probably be fretless, as main bass is still in bass hospital having keyhole surgery. Was hoping it would be finished, but it hasn't even been started yet
11. Acetone is one of the most aggressive solvents for plastics you can readily access. There are some plastics it won't touch ( polyethylene, polypropylene for example) There may be some foams it is ok with, I don't have so much experience there, but because a foam has a large surface area, if it is affected, it will be a lot, and quickly! I really wouldn't do it, but if you try it, do it somewhere very inconspicuous, as always with an untried process.
12. Worth mentioning that these don't have a fan so are silent for acoustic or recording purposes. This sort of thing seems to matter to some folks.
13. you could also wire 4 16ohm speakers in parallel to present a 4ohm load to the amp, if that helps with speaker selection.
14.
I noticed this exact same problem with mine last week. Had mine for 5 or 6 years now - looks like they're all self-destructing at the same time! Was wondering if I can remove the mucky residue with acetone or white spirit but I think I'll drop an email to Strings & Things first.
I would definitely not use acetone on anything foamy.
15. Probably ok as long as your expectations aren't unrealistically high.
16. But what do you really think?
17. I don't think grey for the scratchplate is particularly harmonious with the sunburst, otherwise, it's looking good.
18. I have the passive Titan 8s as the PA in my rehearsal space and it is terrible for bass guitar. It farts out very early.
19. I'd pop one of the speakers out and see what's printed on it, should be better than guesswork, though that cross-firing arrangement is unusual. I've seen Sunn guitar combos with that arrangement, maybe it's one of their 4x12s?
20. Is it all over? Do I get to wear a tiara an blub a bit?
21. Music stand alert!
22.
Valencia bull ring I suppose, not sure how many it holds but it was full
according to wiki 10-12000. That must have been a fantastic experience!
23. I got fired from a jazz band I was playing in, with good friends. They were all way ahead of me and still improving, whereas I'd hit a plateau in my playing and didn't do anything about it. The guy who replaced me was miles better, and made them sound complete as a band. I'm nearly over the rejection now, the first 30 years were the worst though.
24. I think Godin gear is pretty well made, but certainly the guitars for some reason don't seem to hold their value, but it does make them a very good s/h buy. I imagine the basses to be the same.
25.
I looked that up! Very funny Actually hold on there was actually a soundtrack for it. So I'm confused if that was a joke or you really were inspired? Haha.
No, it was the only French silent film I could think of offhand, so, yes, it was meant to be a joke. Trivia fact: this was the film referred to by the Pixies on the track Debaser. "I am un chein ANDALUCIA!", "slicing up eyeballs" etc. Surrealists, eh?
