1. Thanks Mr Grey, I lost track of this month (my first ever, too!) and missed the voting. What a twit. Got the same number of votes as the composition challenge. I'm seeing a pattern emerging. (*thinks - must try harder!*)
2. Hi Bob I was also wondering which basses you kept. I can't believe it's just the ones in your sig... (I just realized ALL my current basses were bought from Bob!)
3. Yeah I think on reflection it was highly unlikely American stuff from the 70s would be metric. The 4-48 size is a number 4 size with 48 threads per inch, quite fine. That would make it a UNF thread.
4. I imagine the air coming out of the port would be enough to pump a lightweight head right off the top of it too!
5. does anyone know if the reliability issues on the BG 250 range has been sorted on the current builds? I've got a friend about to pull the trigger on a new one (2x10) and would love to offer some reassurance! Cheers MBA
6.
You could just turn the cab upside down.
We have a winner!
7. I was lucky enough to support Laetitia Sadier at Oxford, and the band were all quite charming. That last album was beautiful to watch them do live. Great p-bass with flats sound on the album. The bass player Palm muted for the whole gig as he had to string with rounds, not having any spare flats on him when he bust a string the previous night... Still sounded good though!
8. May we infer from the above that the G2 Midget and G3 Super Midget play nicely together? I've only ever paired them with the CTM 15W, so they were never worked to any great excursion.
9. Sounds like shorter grub screws would do the trick. If they are m3 thread, I've got some nice stainless ones you can have. Alternatively you could take the saddle off, wind the screw down so it is flush with the top and either hacksaw, Dremel or file the other end off flush. Now as you adjust the saddle the head will be recessed. Job's a good un!
10. Looks like the Hohner Steinberger system. You slide the saddle under string tension then lock all the saddles with sideways force using that grub screw visible at the side of the bridge.
11. No, as per the quote in your post, you fret the string at the first AND last frets to use the string as a straight line. Then you can see the relief properly.
12.
Who are the 'premier makers' and what determines membership of that 'club'? I am genuinely interested to know, not just stirring.
The ones that charge a lot of money?
13. Thanks Bill! You're saying it would run out of puff at LF given too much power? Kind of what I'm finding in small vented cab with bass. It does sound loud and clean with guitar though...
14. Would an EVM12L work well in a JackLite 12 Bill?
15. When do the polls close? (Hoping for an unlikely late surge)
16. I do a similar thing for friends and acquaintances and never charge, though the people I know usually insist on giving me something. Like you, I treat it all as a learning process.
17. But not the controversial Motown ones? Well there you go.
18. If it's a tight fit that'll end up nothing like a real fender...
19. Anyone else notice that all the main vocal misc had some nasty distortion on the top end when the singers were loud and even when Cale was talking before Space Oddity?
20. Blackwater worked well, I thought, but I agree, Marc Almond was poor in both stints so far.
21. A 3A fuse is not right for an amp that could draw over 900W. 240V * 3A =730W. I'd go for a 10A fuse as stated above. What is the rating of the internal fuse? My shuttle 6 has a T-5A internally and the max average power is stated as 400W on the back of the amp.
22. I've had a few Hohner Jack basses, and have to say, they are one of the most comfortable basses you can wear, really nice contours, balance and weight. The satin finish custom was the one for me.
23. Suspected it might be!
24. Is that a nitro finish? It looks lovely and thin.
25. I had a comment that the words in my tune weren't discernible enough to make out the meaning, so this is more or less what I sang: Air is thin, got a lot of u.v. Drops on my head on my hypo-t (It’s) What I need for my s.a.d. Got to get my D Sun beams down like a sheet of rain Mood lighting lightens then we’re in the game Traces of the dark might still remain, but D gets to work on my bones and brain Hope you don't mind! Cheers MBA
