1. I actually contacted them already. They want £105 for one. Seems a lot for a pretty ordinary mini humbucker. I think you can get them for about 75 bucks in the States
2. I take it the SG11 wasn't that colour originally? I've got one from that era - very lightweight thin body and those nice mini humbuckers.
3. Good job on KC! I've been trying this for ages and not got anywhere near as fluent as that.
4. Could be one rail of the power supply gone. Have a look for any fuses internal, mounted on the PCB(S) and see if any have gone. Usual warnings about poking around inside gear apply - Unplug from mains etc.
5. Thanks ez. For the time being, I've just wired it single coil and it sounds just fine, so, unless the owner really wants to replace it, I'll leave it like that.
6. Posted on the guitars page but thought I might get better visibility here. Humbucker on a 650 has one coil open circuit. They appear to be potted too. Do Ric sell replacements or can they be rewound? Any useful advice welcomed. Guitar belongs to an acquaintance who bought it on a drunken whim about 7 years ago and has just dug it out again! Cheers MBA
7. Looking at a 650 for a friend. One of the coils is open circuit. It looks like it is potted. Can you buy replacements or get these rewound? For the time being I'll probably wire it up single coil - better than nothing eh?
8. I use a BF super midget all the time with a shuttle 6 in a 3-piece, more than loud enough. The only time I've used 2 cabs recently was using the little Ashdown 15w valve jobbie, and that was loud enough onstage too, just. We always have p.a. support at the gigs we do round Oxford.
9. You could plug into a desk or recording gizmo and do it by matching the levels on the meters. That should get you close enough, especially if they have peak hold.
10. ooH, where are Vulfpeck playing?
11. Miracle Legion at the Jericho, Oxford Fri 3rd. They are doing a few UK gigs as a duo. We are doing a support as a late stand-in. I must admit I hadn't really heard of them, but they're good, in an R.E.M vein, and have been going about as long too!
12. If you do get it out, I've got a bunch of metric (I assume the CVs would be metric) stainless grub screws you could replace them with. Got them from work surplus to requirements. They were going to bin them!
13. I love the sound as a tonal accent. If you use it all the time it isn't an accent....
14. The Quo and Wilko on the 29th. Not sure how I feel about it. My Mrs. wanted to go, having last seen the Quo in '79
15. He's what I imagine Howard Wolowitzs grandpa would look like.
16. I've got some strings on my fretless with no silks (roundwound) which I think may be Dean Markley.
17. I think that should work ok *caveat- I don't have either of these bits of kit!*
18.
If I owned an expensive instrument I think I'd be frightened of bashing it. I'm relaxed and comfortable playing any of my 'less than £200' basses. In fact an expensive instrument would make me cautious about putting a ding in it.
That's why reliced basses are available.
19. We play psyche-tinged pop with some bits that might be considered a bit proggy. Oxford seems to tolerate what we do, but I wouldn't say we're exactly popular...
20. What a terrible drum sound. So flat sounding. Song is ok-ish in a sort of Oasis way.
21. Most studio monitors and home hifi speaker cabinets are made of mdf.
22. I'm borrowing one at the moment. I've lowered the action and now getting a little too much growl I 3rd to 5th positions, mainly on E and A strings. Does the truss rod actually do anything on these? I tried turning to the left maybe just over half a turn and the neck doesn't seem to have moved a jot. It was stiff though. I don't suppose it works in the opposite direction like some dual action ones? Any comments appreciated. MBA
23. I got left behind ability-wise by a jazz band I was in just after I left school. They were just practicing and improving so much faster than I could manage, and they got in the drummer's mate who was at a much higher level than me at the time. Being told you're not good enough hurts, even if you have come to that realisation yourself. Guitarist has been pro for the ensuing 35 years and the sax player is really good for someone that doesn't do it as a job. Got fired from a band with a school mate as they wanted me to spend more time networking at gigs in London with them, and was replaced by a younger, taller, trendy looking lad who was about the same ability on guitar. Did get to play with the singer again in a later incarnation though, so no hard feelings on this one.
