1. I think if you have your action set low any small changes will be immediately apparent, whereas if it's medium to high you may never notice a change in the neck.
2. To be fair, the black one looks pretty conservative from a distance. I think you could "get away" with that on most gigs.
3.
Too much like something from the old Sci Fi series UFO. Then again, im old
Nothing wrong with those old sci-fi series..... ahem!
4. Class D amp, Barefaced One 10 and a reel of Gaffa Tape. Combo done!
5.
A variation that dates back to steam radio days. You can coax extra life out of an old pot by using the tip of a pencil to clean the track. The graphite is hard enough to dislodge any crusty stuff and slippery enough so as not to gouge the surface of the track. It also leaves a fine coating of graphite as dry lubrication. If you're patient and careful, it beats spraying.
I wouldn't really recommend this as the pencil graphite is conductive too. This could lead to an unpredictable resistance profile on the pot rotation.
6.
Take a look at how Fender taps a line level signal off the speaker out signal in many of their old tube amps. All you need then is any old decent isolation (1:1 ratio) trafo.
Thanks, any links? I've bought the passive box now, but always interested to see how others have done it. Are the Fender ones balanced though?
7. Just spotted this one on sale today with a tenner off, and it's a dual, which might be handy at some point. It says it takes speaker level signals, and has 3 levels of attenuation rather than 2 that the Palmer box has: https://www.studiospares.com/Sale/2016/Flash-Sale/Studiospares-Dual-Passive-DI-Box_449300.htm#rtabs3 Offer finished 2nd March, 3pm. I think I might just have to @ <£20
8. Thanks Bill, always interesting and informative.
9. Was the TOA part of a 2-way setup? Presumably the tweeter or horn would take care of the highs and the band pass response might even enable the use of a less complex crossover
10. Strange that no one else used the vertical slot if it is a sound idea acoustically (pun intended) It was only used on the 1x10 combos, which would have suffered least from the issue anyhow. Odd.
11. Hmm, I've got 4 80mm 24V fans on my desk going spare. They are very quiet at 12V... These ones: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/axial-fans/5415261/?searchTerm=541-5261&relevancy-data=636F3D3126696E3D4931384E525353746F636B4E756D6265724D504E266C753D656E266D6D3D6D61746368616C6C26706D3D5E5C647B337D5B5C732D2F255C2E2C5D5C647B332C347D2426706F3D313426736E3D592673743D52535F53544F434B5F4E554D4245522677633D4E4F4E45267573743D3534312D3532363126
12. Clarence L. Fender! I learned something today
13. That's a coincidence, I suggested to my mate a few weeks ago that we try Start All Over, and we met up and played it this weekend. There must be a Kula vibe going around!
14. It looks to me like Barts have bar magnets, so string spacing in your case shouldn't be an issue. http://www.bartolini.net/pickups-faq/ section 12 Does it only do this when both pickups are on? The spacing between the two may be scooping those frequencies.
15. Trace used to do just the preamp in a head sized box. My old guitarist bought one thinking it was an amp. Now that would have been ideal for adding a lightweight power amp to for that tone in a lighter package.
16. The difference between hifi and bass amps is, though the output stage may have the same modules, each manufacturer will have their own preamp designs that will have a far greater influence on the tone goals than required for a hifi amp.
17. I'd fit a thermal switch on the heatsink near the output transistors and wire the fan in series with it. This, or fit a quieter fan with the same flow rate. Sit somewhere else or wear a jumper if the breeze upsets you.
18. Glad to be of help. I hope this does turn out to be the issue. I've never really got the need for active basses to have such hot outputs, unless you're trying to drive the front end of an old valve amp into distortion.
19. Is there a trim pot on the inside of the bass that is set very low? Looking at the block diagramme there is an input gain pot. May be worth having a tweak of that. https://www.lakland.com/tech-docs/LH-3%20Wiring%20Diagram%204-07.pdf If possible, I like to set my active level about the same as passive so there isn't a big change in settings if you have to switch over mid-set.
20. I would have thought the EBS Session 60 in the for sale section would fit the bill. Depends on where you are though as it is local delivery only. Edit. Beaten to it by faster fingers!
21. It would be nice to see another UK player in the bass amp game. Their guitar amps are pretty well regarded afaik.
22. I'm sure it was discussed at length earlier, but there's no internal bracing. Was it decided it was not necessary? I did read the whole thread, honest! It was a while ago though....
23. Or more importantly Genz Benz
24. They sound good. The 5 W version was loud enough through a decent cab for band practice in my small room with proper drums.
